I know this is completely off the subject of the blog I'm writing but since it's here for me and I'm not having other problems at the moment i'm going to write about it.
I did ear candling for the first time this weekend. I've had an excruciating pain in my right ear/throat/jaw for about 6-8 months now. I've been to the doctor and he said there was no infection so he couldn't give me antibiotics (I didn't want them anyway) and he could see some built up fluid but I should just take some sinus meds. and dry it up.
I tried that but it didn't work at all except to make me wired and nervous. So this weekend I tried ear candling. What a neat experience. I think I'd like to do it a few more times, especially in that ear. It extracted lots of wax and white powdery stuff that the woman doing it said was yeast and old infection. How nice to get THAT out of my head!
For the first time in 6 months I could open my mouth wide without sharp pain. I went home and fell asleep - I just felt drained - I fell asleep early on the couch and when I woke up around 10:30 my whole right side was clogged up, as if it had knocked stuff loose that was now blocking up my sinuses. I slept for a long time last night, about 12 hours. This morning the pain is back and I feel like I have drainage into my throat so I think I'd like to do it again, but I'm so impressed with the results!
I think I'm putting the BV Blog on hold unless something else happens. Right now my symptoms are WAY better and it's been almost a month. I'm glad that in writing this I have given some help and support to others. Thanks
I recently have been reading up on ear candling and just thought you may want to be wary of anyone who tells you that white powder in the cone is yeast. I read on the wallys ear candle website that it is rare that anything actually gets siphoned out of the ear canal. the purpose of ear candling is to soften compacted wax in the ear canal so that it will come out on its own for up to five days after. wax found inside the cone is usually from the ear candle itself and white powder means that there wasn't a good seal between the cone and the ear. I'd find someone else to help you next time.
Well, I'm not sure. I read that also but I did it and my daughter did it also and got differing amounts of the "earwax" substance and some of the powdery stuff. I'd believe that the powdery stuff was from the ear candle but it really seemed when I did it that I could feel liquified stuff being drawn out of my ear. My daughter told me she felt "pus" coming out of her ear - she's had terrible ear infections in the past - I think she felt that something was coming out of her ear.
I know that I feel better and I don't think it's just a placebo effect like the site mentions, I also feel that drainage has been released because I have sinus drainage today and so did my daughter this morning and neither one of us had it yesterday.
I think ear candling is like any other alternative treatment, you will always have those that it doesn't work for or who have a bad experience and will call it quackery, you'll have the doctors who don't believe in anything but modern medicine and you'll have the people who feel it is helpful and believe in it. I'm usually pretty middle-of-the-road and don't really take the fanatic side either way but I did not have a bad experience and would definitely do it again.
