There are tons of web entries about how great aloe is for health but I can't find one that tells which variety of plant is best. I've done some research and many of the varieties state that the leaf is "mildly toxic" if ingested. It would be nice if someone would be specific on which variety produces the most healthy gel.

I live in Florida and have 3 different types of aloe growing wild in my back yard but I've got no idea if I can just go out and safely harvest a leaf and use the gel in a smoothie.

Any advice would be great.
