Hi Paula- my husband was also diagnosed with cancer of the liver bile duct in May. We have been to Sloane Kettering in New York as well as Columbia Presbyterian in New York. After much research on this type of cancer and seeing 6 surgeons/oncologists that specialize in this area, he was given only about a year by each one. I will say that if caught in the early stages, a Whipple Surgery is possible. It was too late for this with my husband as the cancer spread to nearby lymph nodes. He is in a chemotherapy clinical study right now. the name of the treatment is GTX which was started by Dr. Robert Fine, our oncologist. Although my husband is the first with bile duct cancer in his study, he has had great results with other types of cancers. If he can shrink the tumor, surgery may be an option. The treatments just started two weeks ago and so far it has been going OK.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for this. It is rare and even if caught and removed early, does come back.
Sloane Kettering is a hospital that does also have an alternative medicine department you can look into for the herbal remedies.
We are going with the chemo which will also assist with pain that could occur when the cancer progresses. I guess we will see how it goes. Unfortunately, there has not been much research on this type of cancer until recently. Please let me know how you make out. Donna
