I believe that reciting affirmations and prayers as written in the prayer posted here, the book you recommend, and other sources activates the "God within", in other words, or own innate power to heal ourselves through God/Allah/Spirit/Creator/All-That-Is, or any other name we may have for The Divine, that exists within and without us.
