Coconut Oil Really Works!5 y

I found this posted in the hair loss forum and thought it sounded right. I have been suffering from hair loss and premature graying of hairs for last few months after two consecutive pregnancies. Initially I never thought that I have to take some serious step but when my grey hairs started peeping out, I was really shocked. I started using coconut oil mixed with equal amounts of olive oil & castor oil and few drops of lemon juice. (I discovered this home remedy for hair loss after a tiring research) Though I have used it a few times and I am not sure about grey hairs but it is really wonderful to use. My hair loss has diminished, my hairs feel shinier & softer and I am really fresh and cool. You can also try this if you have any hair problem but be patient may be a different proportion of ingredients will work for you.

Hair Restoration Tips6 y

As a substitute for shampooing with harmful chemicals to restore my hair health and give my hair new growth, I have tried many less harmful things than abrasive cleansers and toxic scents made with petrochemicals.

Neem oil is one ingreient that I would find a way to add to my hair treatment for thinning hair. Neem oil comes from the neem plant found in India. It may be purchased online or at most any heath food store. It has many amazing properties. It does not smell very good though. There are a few ways that I have used it. 1. I massage it into my scalp. Use sparingly. 2 put a towel on my head; 3. leave the towel on my head all night; 4. Rinse out in the morning with diluted apple cider vinegar; 1 Cup of Apple Cider in one gallon jug of warm water. You can use the cheap stuff you get ...   read more

Prevent Hairloss6 y

NATURAL HOME REMEDIES FOR BALDNESS / HAIR LOSS Baldness or alopecia refers to the falling of hair or absence of hair on the head. It is the most common disorder among men. Hair is found on each and every part of the body except the hands, palms and soles of the feet. Hair is formed in minute pockets in the skin called follicles. An up growth at the base of follicle produces hair when a special group of cells turn amino acids into keratin, a type of protein, of which hair is made. The rate of production of these building blocks determines hair growth. There is a balance in the hair growth and falling of hair. Any problem in the body system can disturb this balance causing more of hair loss and finally baldness

Types of Baldness / Hair Loss Male pattern baldness - This condition can occur at any age and is mostly hereditarycondition. It results in total hair loss in a short period. Female pattern baldness - The hair gets thin from all over the scalp except the front line and it doesn’t results in complete hair loss Causes of Hair Loss The main cause of hair loss is inadequate nutrition. Persons with deficiency of folic acid are the most sufferers. The various other causes of hair loss that ultimately results in baldness are: * Age factor * Genetic factor * Hormonal changes * Stress * ...   read more

Essential Oils:Hair Care7 y

Adapted from Rosemary Gladstar's Family Herbal, by Rosemary Gladstar. Have you ever noticed how few people over 50 have shiny, healthy hair hair you'd die for? There aren't very many of them. Simple Solution: Though it may be part of the natural aging process to lose some of your crowning glory, it's not a natural process for it to lose its gleam and glow. This lack of life is almost always due not to aging but to the unhealthy practices of overwashing, blow drying, and using chemical products such as sprays, perms, and gels. Health, natural hair care is basically a very simple undertaking. Here are some tips of how essential oils can help!

No Shampoo Routine7 y

This is a summary of the "No Shampoo Routine" that was published @ http://motowngirl.com/no_shampoo.php about Lorraine Massey's book called, "Curly Girl" ***I have added a few remarks

Lorraine Massey says in her book. ”Curly Girl http://motowngirl.com ”Curlies should not use shampoo. There are a few mild shampoos out there, but most contain sodium laurel sulfate and/or sodium laureth sulfate. These ingredients will dry out your hair. Hair needs moisture - especially curly/coily hair. You can use a conditioner to ”wash” your hair and it will get your hair clean. Her theory is that using friction from your fingertips along with water and conditioner gets the hair and scalp clean.” *** The alternative chosen by the author is to use a ”Conditioner Wash” but is this ...   read more

Shampoo in the Pantry7 y

Over the centuries women have come up with their own remedies for hair care, from the garden or the pantry. The recipes listed are all very interesting and have a certain amount of benefit. I didn’t find any that are harmful. As a hairdresser, with color-enhanced hair, I will feel safer sticking to my LC Legacy Shampoo and Conditioner. However, if I’m ever stranded at home with no shampoo, I’ll know what to do!

Natural Hair Care - Shampoo From the Pantry Fashion minded women have been mixing their own hair care potions from ingredients found in their pantry for hundreds of years. Some recipes have been handed down from generation to generation remaining intact. Others are completely individual, altered depending on what is in the cupboard or what the ‘cook’ feels like using. You may recognize some of these recipes, shared with me by friends. They may seem very strange to you. They are all natural. From BellaOnline Editor Rae Schwarz: Rae never uses shampoo. Instead, she mixes brown sugar ...   read more

Tea/Coffee Hair Rinses?7 y

Dear Karen, My auntie had waist length thick black hair that was gorgeous. After she died I asked my mom how Auntie Ruth had such shiny black hair, even into her later years. My mom said she thought that Auntie used either coffee or tea as a final rinse. Unfortunately my mom did not know the exact details and so I am at a loss to try and figure this out. Have you ever heard of such a thing before? If so, do I use instant coffee, brewed coffee or what is the deal? A friend thought that I might be able to avoid the muss and the fuss and just buy the drip of the day from Starbucks and pour that over my head.

Hmmmm....Starbucks brew of the day as a rinse? I never thought of that before but you know, it could potentially work. The important point to note is to make sure you don’t pour it on your head while it is still hot. Lukewarm to cool would be the proper temperature to avoid burns or scalding to your sensitive scalp. Since you asked several questions, I will try to answer them in sequence. Yes, people have been pouring fresh brewed tea and coffee on their hair for centuries. Basically as long as there has been tea and coffee in the world, it has been used for various beauty treatm ...   read more

Shampoo: Baldness Caused by SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE7 y

STOP USING SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE!!! "This ingredient is found EVERY body and face soap...and EVERY shampoo. IT IS ALSO WHY YOUNG MEN ARE GOING BALD!!!"

SLS and Premature Hair Loss SLS is implicated in premature hair loss in men and women, and may be one reason for widespread incidence of thinning hair. Because SLS is such a caustic cleanser, it actually corrodes the hair follicle and impairs its ability to grow hair. SLES (sodium lauryl ether sulfate) causes dramatic decline in the hair growth cycle, and prolongs the hair loss phase (normally 3 months) by a factor of eight. Simply removing this ingredient, and its corrosive and irritating effects, begins to restore the natural, healthy function of the hair follicle. SLS is also impl ...   read more

Lighten Hair w/ Rosemary Oil8 y

Essensial Oil of Rosemary I have been using essential oil of rosemary to brighten my dark brown hair for a few years as an alternative to chemical coloring. One of my perimenopausal symptoms was falling hair. I also feared the toxins of the dyes. My hair is in great shape now. All you need is approximately 8-10 drops diluted in a few tablespoons of water.

No Shampoo: ACV & Baking Soda plus a Blog8 y

Why You Should Go No ‘Poo Almost three months ago, I was introduced to the idea of no longer using shampoo. I was intrigued. After looking into it somewhat, I figured I didn’t have anything to lose. So I picked up some baking soda and apple cider vinegar and then took the plunge. I love the results! There was an adjustment period where I had to play around with the measurements a bit but I finally got the hang of it. I have straight-as-a-board, baby-fine hair that has never held a “do.” After “no ‘poo,” I don’t even have to use styling products. I just blow dry and go; my hair now keeps any style. It’s awesome!

http://www.naturalfamilyonline.com/1-nb/53-no-shampoo.htm Hair Luv Routine I switched up my hair care routine to all natural non-mass marketed homemade products! ”Sonrisa” reminded me about the apple cider vinegar rinse and so I tried it again and I loved it. Then she mentioned using baking soda and water as a natural hair and scalp cleanser. I tried that again and my scalp was cleaner than ever without feeling stripped dry. I did some research on the chemicals in hair products and found that the main sudsing chemicals in most shampoos cause irritation, itchiness, and dryness. They are n ...   read more

natural healing - dandruff8 y

Further to my last article on “Hair Loss”, the discussion on hair care is incomplete without the mention of Dandruff. Let us get some facts straight about dandruff. Dandruff is the inflammation of the superficial layers of the skin whether it be on the scalp or any other part of the body.

AROMATHERAPY– NATURAL HEALING - DANDRUFF While the causes of dandruff are various, it can certainly be transferred genetically and can get aggravated with emotional and physical stress and with climatic change, becoming worse in winter. Dandruff can either be greasy or dry. The manufacturers of dandruff shampoos, unfortunately, are not in the business of treating dandruff permanently, otherwise who would buy their products. If you have resolved to solve this problem from the root, you must first begin with dietary changes avoiding fried foods, white sugar and dairy products. Eat more of g ...   read more

Hair Loss Shampoo: Saw Palmetto8 y

I am going more slowly through the process than I thought for making shampoo. I want to make my own chemical free shampoo for my thinning hair that has a dry patch and contains my first significant quanities of grey hairs. Pattern Baldness runs in my family so this dry patch of hair concerns me. I know it is easier to prevent baldness than it is to regrow hair once it is lost so this blog and making my own natural shampoo is my effort to be proactive and save my hair. I have tried some things so far but I want to base my formula on research based information. So far I am considering using Cold Pressed Virgin Olive Oil, Aloe Vera Juice, Rosemary extract, Cinnamon, Honey, Cayenne, Stinging Nettles, Milk Thistle and blending Saw Palmetto Gel Tabs into my hair loss/pattern baldness prevention shampoo. I have just begun using Apple Cider Vinegar as a rinse with good results. The following is a study about the effects of Saw Palmetto on Pattern Baldness.
