How incredible things can change in a short period of time.
Since I last wrote (about 2 months ago), the following has happened:
1. I knew that I had finally reached breaking point and I had to halt my destructive lifestyle. (I was at the brink of self-medication and warned a school friend and admitted aloud amid tears that I knew either medicine was going to blow up in my face or I was going to die under the pressure I was under)
2.I and my school agreed that it was time to exit the university/ medical school in Singapore. I am no longer a university student nor a medical student.

I was first interested because he was so sincere.
I loved him because of his natural effervescence and balanced attitude towards life and work.
I was most endeared to him when I discovered how politically mature he is.
I had my first epiphany when I realized he was a combination of everything I loved about my first and second loves and even more.

- Words that help to get me through difficult moments
A lot has happened the last few weeks, which has left me in a tailspin. I have a lot to think about.
One of the greatest moments was to learn about how a great doctor friend of mine mustered up courage after two shatteirng divorces to rebuild his prestigious career. One of my greatest problems for the last few years was to find someone whom I could relate to and who would serve to be a model of inspiration for me. Just today I was penning an introductory email to a doctor where I had to put in my resume. I think I am beginning to be able to articulate coherently why I have been paralyze ... read more

Why are you hesitating?
your life has already hit rock bottom. the only left that it can go is up. you have learnt to set up boundaries from the various bad experiences you have had to suffer through. yet one of the continuing repurcussions is the fear to move forward. But my question to your hesitation is why not just go for it? you already know when to stop, what not to accept and, shit has alreay happened and one day your life will end. So why not just dive in and live? Why are you hesitating?
When I meet the right guy, I will treasure him and make him know how special he ... read more

- The importance of a gladiator attitude
The major take-home message for the week is how a positive smart even gladiator-like attitude can bring some balance to this otherwise fickle and stressful life. And my resolution for 2011 is to be less critical of myself, appreciate any activity by practising meditative envisioning and welcome each day with a big animated hello and end it with a nice bow and a card that says ”I think you were pretty awesome today.” Most importantly, to fight on fearlessly, studying my opponents and finding his weaknesses and maximizing my strengths. After all, I want to be the last one standing when this ... read more

Charlie from Two & a half men once said ”There are no bad idea! Juz lack of a will to execute them! We are men, Alan, single men. We can go where we want, when we want and how we want. Usually without so much lugguage and toileteries, but I’m trying to be flexible here... the point is you can’t let your ex-wife control your behaviour no matter how stupid & self-destrutive it might be! ... What profit a man if you escape from the iron shack of matrimony, only to surrender to your sexually frustrated tyranny of vengeful ex-wife?”
Well, I have no pissed off ex-wife thank god, but now that ... read more

To “Devil” side of me,
Why do you always find ways to bully and torment me? Why do you enjoy tearing me down and diminishing ever slight achievement I make? Why do you find joy in gloating at my misery or your ceaseless pursuit at making me feel miserable?
I know you are the summation of my parents’ personalities. From young, they ace at making every event, big or small, taste like vomit--exactly what you do. It did not matter how hard I try or how well I do, I was never good enough; in fact I was completely lousy and useless. I was often compared to kids of strangers and thrashed fo ... read more

- performance at school, meeting with cardiologist, problems I encountered
Ever since I emerged from my grieving period, there has definitely been positive progress. In the first week of school, I have never missed a day’s attendance. I have been asking questions and jotting notes to gain thorough knowledge of each learning point. This is a drastic improvement from my performance a few months ago where I could not even bring myself to the hospital, let alone concentrate.
At the end of the week, I also managed to attend the meeting with interventional cardiologist Dr Foo about the prospects of cardiology research with the hospital. It was a fruitful first meet ... read more

have you ever seen someone in there 30’s or 40’s that just look beat down. lets say a woman. you can tell she used to be pretty, and if you talk to her she seems smart, but she is a sad, sad person. maybe she has a drug problem, or drinks too much, or slleps around. but this is not where her problems started.
her problems started when she was young, she was a victim of her surrondings, and people in her life. at some point she just accepted it, and became a proffesional victim. and her life w ... read more

OK, I get it. Life sucks, so I am told--by e-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y. You wake up everyday, silence the alarm clock then amble the toilet only to see a vaguely recognizable image starring back at you from the mirror. You get dressed because you want the image-centered world you live in to deem you as being sufficiently presentable--after all the wounds of being left out by playmates as a kid are still fresh. You hurry the kids into the car but they test your patience (because that is what they do best). Nobody has ever taught me how to live a great life. Most often, the answers I get are trite and predictable: get good grades, graduate, make something out of your life with a well-paid job, find a good (rather a rich) man and start a family. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this answer, except it seems to me to be just another list of to-dos. It neither delights my heart nor captivates my mind. More importantly, it does not lend any consideration to the attitude that would bring about la vie extraordinaire.
My mind floated back today ... read more
