Why Dogs Don't Live as Long as People--philosophy from a 4 year old

Irish Wolfhound WHY DOGS DON’T LIVE AS LONG AS PEOPLE Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owner, his wife, and their little boy were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, the owners told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old boy to observe the pro ...   read more

Honorable Republicans refuse to sign budget bill if provision to drill in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge remains.

For those of you who are losing faith in the legislative process when it comes to conservation and other environmental concerns, take heart. On November 9th, a courageous band of 22 House Republicans stood up to their party’s leadership and said they would oppose the budget reconciliation bill if the provision to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) remained in the legislation. At a time when it seems like there’s nothing but bad news from Washington, I was so happy to hear this news. Fluoride in Drinking Water   19 y
Fluoride has been added to drinking water in the United States since the 1950's to reduce cavities in children. In high doses, fluoride is toxic. Now there is a controversial charge that fluoride added to drinking water is linked to bone cancer. The Environmental Working Group is asking the NIH to list fluoride in tap water as a carcinogen.

HEALTH FRONT Not in My Water Supply! TIME Magazine 10/16/05 By Margot Roosevelt-Bellingham It hardens teeth and prevents cavities, but 60 years after it began, fluoridation is meeting new resistance: Somebody put a dead rat in Curtis Smith’s mailbox. Someone else has made anonymous phone calls accusing him of trying to poison his neighbors. And all around the usually placid university town of Bellingham, Wash., activists from a group called Citizens Against Forced Fluoride have planted lawn signs adorned with skull and crossbones. ”I had no idea it would get this intense,” s ...   read more
