Whatever happened to harmony?

Me thinks the essence of music has fallen to the wayside. Pure harmony is a lost art. Now don’t get me wrong - I enjoy all types of music - hard rock, metal, soul, old school funk, even the occasional country western tune. But the sounds of pure harmony are lost with the 45 rpm record. Case in point. I was listening to Simon and Garfunkel’s ”Sounds of Silence” the other day. Pure heaven. Enjoy some of the early Beatles tunes. Bliss. The mixture of a two-part harmony coupled with an a slow ballad is reminiscent of good old days. Chad and Jeremy. The Association. The Byrds. Ever experience a Sequoia tree?

Ever seen a Sequoia tree? If you have, don’t you feel small compared the the awesome majesty of an organism growing over 250 feet tall? If you haven’t, I would recommend taking a small detour north from San Francisco to Muir Woods. It’s only about 30-45 minutes once you cross the Golden Gate (depending on the traffic and how much sightseeing you do). Muir Woods has its’ own micro-climate which is extremely beneficial for the Sequoias (or Coastal Redwoods). There are other places to experience Sequoias and I’ll touch on those sites in a later dialog. Also, did you know that there are 2 ...   read more

I have a passion for rugby, sailing, travelling, and a few other topics which I'll expand upon later. But for now, I'll let this simmer and come back to it later.

A neighbor, who lives down the street, struck up a conversation with me the other day. He spoke of this site and said it was a good place to reflect, open up a little, and communicate with the world. I took up his offer and decided to give it a try. Hopefully, I will be able to break down my compartmentalized brain and identify a few sub-topics in future issues. But for now, I’m throwing the line into the water to see what will happen. During the next few weeks, I will open new Blogs which will cover various topics such as my passion for rugby, sailing, hiking, teaching (Special Edu ...   read more

Rugby? You betcha...

”Soccer is a gentlemen’s sport played by hooligans. Rugby is a hooligan’s sport played by gentlemen.” I’m not sure of the validity of this quote, but it catches the eye and is often prone to some heated discussions between passionate soccer and rugby fans/players/coaches/etc. In future episodes, I will take you on a pleasant, and sometimes painful, journey into the trials and tribulations of my successes and pitfalls on the rugby pitch...But for now, I’ll leave you with a little elbowing and a quote from one of my bumperstickers... ”Tis a far better thing to lose at rugby than to ever w ...   read more
