Teitelbaum - Fighting Persistent Infections   19 y
Medical science has known for quite some time that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is associated with changes in the body’s immune system. In fact, the acronym “CFIDS” stands for “Chronic Fatigue And Immune Dysfunction Syndrome.” This can result in your having several different and unusual infections at one time. Many of these infections need to be treated directly. Other infections will go away on their own as your immune (defense) system comes back “on line” by using our treatment protocol. In this article, I’ll discuss some of the more common, yet not usually thought of (in “regular” medicine), infections.

Evidence for Bacterial (Mycoplasma, Chlamydia) and Viral (HHV-6) Co-Infections in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome   19 y
Garth L. Nicolson,1 PhD, Marwan Y. Nasralla,2 PhD, Kenny De Meirleir,3 MD, PhD, Robert Gan,2 MB, PhD and Joerg Haier,4 MD, PhD SUMMARY. Using the blood of 100 CFS patients and forensic polymerase chain reaction we have found that a majority of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) patients show evidence of multiple, systemic bacterial and viral infections that could play an important role in CFS morbidity. CFS patients had a high prevalence (51%) of one of four Mycoplasma species and often showed evidence of co-infections with different Mycoplasma species, Chlamydia pneumoniae and/or active Human Herpes Virus-6 (HHV-6).

Tired or Toxic? Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Environmental Toxicity   19 y
Many doctors who work with chronically fatigued patients and those who work in the field of environmental medicine, agree that chemical exposure is a major contributor to fatigue and low vitality. For example, if you review the symptoms of formaldehyde exposure, you will find fatigue, depression, and poor concentration right at the top. The symptoms of exposure to trichloroethylene (found in floor polish, copy machines, carpet cleaner, etc.) include fatigue, poor concentration, and drowsiness, among others. Exposure to toluene, the most common indoor air pollutant, triggers symptoms of fatigue, poor concentration, drowsiness, and headache.

Omura on Pain   19 y
In many cases of chronic intractable pain without any discernible causes, when both Western medical treatment and acupuncture treatment failed to eliminate the pain, this pain is often due to the unrecognized presence of viral or bacterial infection. Even effective anti-viral or bacterial agents often fail to eliminate or inhibit the infection, as these drugs may also fail to reach the most painful area where often unrecognizable circulatory disturbances co-exist.

Stratton - Chlamydia in CFS and FMS   19 y
According to Dr. Stratton, "We're looking at Chlamydia pneumoniae for many reasons, including the fact that research suggests that it can enter the walls of various blood vessels and linger for years, fueling the inflammation that causes heart attacks and strokes. Many people have found it in coronary artery disease. But is it just an innocent bystander at the scene of the crime, or does it play an active role? That's what our research is exploring."

Cheney - Dangers of Anti-Depressants   19 y
Dr. Cheney recently came across some information regarding the dangers of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIÌs), such as Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil, and stimulants like Ritalin and Provigil. During office visits, Dr. Cheney shows patients the book Prozac Backlash: Overcoming the Dangers of Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil and Other Antidepressants by Joseph Glenmullen, M.D., a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School. It includes endorsements from other Ivy League psychiatrists. Cheney calls the implications of this book "staggering". When talking with patients, Cheney usually opens the book to a picture of a monkey's brain before and after it received a very potent SSRI. The "before" photo shows a dark background filled with fine white lines and white blobs, healthy neurons. The "after" photo is very dark, only a few white lines and blobs remain. Most of the brain cells had been "fried". SSRIs and stimulants work by increasing the firing of neurons. While this often has great benefi

Historically, the use of herbs and spices in cooking evolved as a method to preserve foods and make them safer to store and eat. While we’ve grown accustomed to using these items to enhanced or accentuate flavors of food, researchers continue to discover that they have muc ...   read more
