Much as I expected day 1 was pretty easy. Although when my boyfriend harassed me about being anorexic (I don’t look anorexic) and that made me feel bad…I almost went and ate just to prove him wrong. Besides that…the gym was a pleasure and I might even extend my treadmill walk out to 1.5 hours. Although there was this smelly guy who walked into the room and immediately stunk up the whole room, and it is a big well ventilated room. How can a person be that disgusting!!! Wouldn’t you be embarrassed? I just can’t understand it.

All right…so I stopped writing because I was so embarrassed that I had broken my fast. I know no one is judging me and that even 11 days is pretty good for my first fast. But…I am disappointed with myself and was very embarrassed. Anyhow…I’m jumping back on the bandwagon and I’ve changed the name of my blog to reflect my goal…to not look like a fatty in my bathing suit when I’m in Mexico. There is nothing worse than being on vacation and not having a good time because all you can think about is how self conscious you are to be in a bathing suit (or skimpy clothes for that matter).

Hmm…feeling crappy today. Kinda shaky feeling, acid reflux, dehydrated and some cold symptoms. I have to work this weekend, in fact I have to work a lot and I am never very happy when I don’t have time to “play”. So…although this week has been pretty good overall, I don’t look forward to the upcoming week and thus my emotions are clouding my judgment of this week. It’s a shame.
I couldn’t work out this morning because the black pants I was going wear had a huge hole in the crotch. That would have been embarrassing for me…could have been thrilling for another gym-goer.

I had a major setback last night. I was desperate for protein and so I drank some soy milk!!!! Then I drank a lot of it, which of course was followed by much guilt. In fact I had guilty dreams last night and didn’t sleep well.
I will still consider myself fasting because I did not consume any food but I really did feel shitty about myself. So when I went to the gym this morning I worked out harder than I should. Well I don’t think I will be making this mistake again.
Otherwise the day went well and I wasn’t that hungry. I look forward to getting back on juicing.

Yesterday was a breeze. Much as I expected, the temptation was much less when in an office setting. First of all I work with 2 men and neither eats lunch, second when you’re busy doing work you don’t have time to think about food. So all in all it was a good day, much easier than the weekend.
This morning was the first morning I worked out. I felt pretty good, making sure my heart rate was between 120 and 130. I only did a half an hour but I’m sure it will help to get out all the toxins.

I tried to write on day 6 but my home computer network was down because we are going wireless. We didn’t get that resolved so I wasn’t able to write at all this weekend. Sorry!
Let’s start out with that salt water flush I did on Saturday. Let’s just say I’m not interested in doing that again, nor is Scott. While we both got the desired result there were also some other “side effects” that we were not prepared for, like partial salt absorption that made us feel like crap. We vowed to never do it again.

Fasting is certainly getting much easier as the days progress. Although yesterday I needed some caffeine to take me away from depression. I have fasted one other time in my life, well I call it anorexia, but it was a fast nonetheless. Anyway…I got so incredibly depressed I became suicidal, all the time. Pretty crazy but it took me many months to stop being anorexic and also many months following that to have a normal level of happiness. Since I started this whole “not eating food” thing, I’ve become rather depressed. Now…there could be a number of reasons for this.
1. Not eating reduces the amount of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine all very helpful pleasure inducing neurotransmitters. (check out http://www.metroactive.com/papers/sonoma/01.22.98/dining-9803.html for more info)
2. Not consuming caffeine, caffeine actually works like a mild anti-depressant.
3. That I can’t exercise as much as I usually do (or at all), which releases endorphins.

Seeing as I usually write at the beginning of the day, you will mostly get a recap of what happened on the previous day, sorry if that disappoints you.
Well as for day 3, it was no picnic…I still had a greatly increased sense of smell and lots of hunger. Then BAM…at 3pm I felt much better. Not so weak, lost the extreme hunger, and my sense of smell when mostly back to normal. Thank god.
It was really hot outside (near 100) but since I’m fasting I didn’t really notice it. In fact after I got off work I felt so much better I went for a 1.5 hour walk. I listed to some sermons on my i-po ... read more

Day 2 was a bit challenging. It wasn’t that I was having headaches or backaches or most of the other symptoms that people report, it was more like I was tired and hungry. I was hungry all day, I was hoping my hunger would go down a little after the first day but that didn’t seem to be the case. My sense of smell was greatly enhanced yesterday. Professionals in neighboring offices had lunch and I could smell it, lotion that smelt like fruit was making my stomach growl, and when I went to the store to get some more juice there were a million smells that made me want to pull my hair out.

I finally got my juicer in the mail and it wasn’t a moment too soon. I got up yesterday morning and made the mc lemonade, except I made the one I was going to have for dinner with too much cayenne. By the time I was leaving for my class (I have a class on Monday nights after work) I was in no mood to drink something that was so spicy…I couldn’t taste any lemon or maple syrup. Being that my class is 4 hours long and I hadn’t had any juice since noon…it was going to be a long night. So I am starting my first day of what I hope will be a 40 day fast. I started out the morning by mixing the master cleanse lemonade. The master cleanse lemonade is only temporary because I should be receiving my juicer today. I better receive my juicer today! Anyway…besides mixing the drinks I prayed, read the bible a little, weighed myself and took pictures of myself in a bikini (yikes!).
After I drank the lemonade I had some stomach cramping. I took this as a good sign that my digestive track does have a response to the master cleanse.

I got a hold of someone at juicersforless.com to check on my shipment. They were very nice and said that it would be shipped yesterday or today (I’ll believe it when I see it). I was planning on starting my fast today (at least this was my plan a couple of weeks ago when I actually thought I would have my juicer by now) so I am going to push it back to Monday.

It’s V8 Time
I have not received my juicer yet and I am a little ticked. Juicersforless.com is checking into the status but I still haven’t even received a reply to the order status. My confirmation email said that it would take up to 10 business days to ship…well it has been many more than 10.
So…being the optimist that I am...I have decided that I will drink V8 as a substitute for juicer. I know…I know! It’s not an adequate substitute for juicer but it will have to do. I won’t consider these my “fasting” days but at least I will be able to get into the spirit of fasting.

At the beginning of my fast I assume I’ll feel quite bored and hungry (perhaps even desperate)…but I have a plan!!! A plan to purge!!! Besides the fast, when my body will be in the process of purging, I will purge areas of my life. Starting with my physical surroundings and ending with my spiritual well-being.
I will clean my room! I will donate my clothes I no longer use! I will add more plants to my environment! I will call my friends that I haven’t called in a while! I will spend time with my family! I will increase my self esteem!

Addicted to Food
I am clearly addicted to food. I am hoping very much that this fast will allow me to break my addictions to food. I know I am addicted to food because it’s all I can think about, I think about dinner as soon as I wake up in the morning. I practically salivate on the way home from work just thinking about all the yummy things I’m going to eat. I also eat past the point at which I know I should stop, always eating until I’m full and never stopping at the point in which I’m no longer hungry. I love being full because I’m an addict!

I am finally done with my century. I have to say…to any of those people out there that have never completed an endurance event…you are missing out on an incredibly fulfilling experience. Because this blog is about fasting I won’t go into great detail about my century but I will say that it was incredible to finish this race and I look forward to doing more in the future.

About Salt Water Flushing
For some unknown reason I thought it would be a good idea to do a salt water flush a couple days before my century (it’s this Sunday). I figured if I was going to be scrunched up on a bike for 7 hours I didn’t want to have any “intestinal discomfort” like I’ve had on some of my training rides. Well…by lower back had been sore because I had some…ummm…blockage.

To answer the questions:
(1)What is the Plan? I will be juice fasting for 40 days. I plan on drinking at least 3 juice concoctions per day and possibly upwards of 5 (if needed). Besides the juice I plan on doing a salt water flush every day in the first week, every other day for the 2nd week, every 3rd day for the 3rd week, etc.
(2)When Will I Start? I want to start after I come back from Yosemite which is the 14th of June. I will start the 15th. After I ride my century this weekend I hope to receive my juicer sometime during the week. From that point I will start the pre-fast. I w ... read more
