Nail Biting: Usual Habit of Kids
Nail biting is considered as the most common habit among children. This usually starts at the stage wherein thumb sucking takes place. As kids grow old, they become unaware of different compulsive disorders such as nose picking, hair pulling, skin biting, skin picking, hair twirling, and more. It is important to stop these unhealthy habits right away before they experience severe illnesses.

It is important to stop these unhealthy habits right away before they experience severe illnesses.
Most parents complain about nail biting. Although research shows that this is normal for young ones, it is still essential to control such annoying disorder immediately. It will be more difficult to cure when the person is older.
Due to boredom or anxiety, toddlers repeat a particular behavior. They feel calm and comfortable when they bite nails. They also do this whenever they are teased. Unknowingly, they bite their fingernails as they sleep, while watching a movie, or as they play. According to some studies, there are also few that chew their toenails. Both genders are prone to onychophagia. However, majority of nail biters are boys.
Parents must understand that getting the right solution for this kind of problem is necessary. A simple habit may turn to serious troubles such as infections, broken teeth, deformed nails, bleeding, and other psychological effects. Hence, altering the behavior with more constructive ones can be much useful. Instead of punishing your son for biting his nails, ask him not to do so by allowing him to help you out on the kitchen. Play with him and as much as possible distract him.
You can also give rewards continuously if your child is beginning to avoid his bad habits. Praise him or let him eat a delicious food. Positive reinforcement will aid your kid to stop nail biting. For convenience and quicker results, try to use creams or polish theirr nails beautifully. When things get worst, do not hesitate to consult a professional practitioner.
