Stage 1: Making Progress (November 2, 2006)
Cutting out the obvious stuff...but what is 'obvious' you may ask? Read on my friend, because the answers may not be as clear as they seem...
Date: 11/3/2006 1:21:19 PM ( 7 y ) ... viewed 1226 times Here's a fundamental breakthrough in my quest to not go to extremes: I'm not giving up coffee and cigarettes. I love them both, and they are my dear companions.
Coffee, with it's wonderful smell, wakes me up in the morning. And nothing gives the lungs a ticklish delight like the day's first cigarette. So it's settled, and that's where it will stay for the time being.
But that doesn't mean I can't make progress, does it? I've always read - and wholeheartedly agree - that most manufactured 'foods' are bad for the health such as those containing flour and refined sugar. In addition, I also agree that dairy products, at least the way they are made today, are not fit for human consumption and contain many hormones, like animal products.
So the first stage is easy: eliminate dairy, wheat, alchohol, white rice and animal fat (the "5 evil whites").
The past two days I've eaten green salads with capers and tahini dressing, tomatoes, bananas, dried nuts, dried apricots, prunes and fresh pears.
My tummy is kind of sore though and I can't seem to figure out why. It's not constipation, as yesterday I had three times the bowel movements I usually have, which is a strange event in itself. I feel like there's gas churning around in there - maybe my gut is clearing the junk left over by last weeks fries and croissants.
Or maybe it's due to my changing the cigarettes I've been smoking. I've been smoking Malborough Lights and have decided for 'health' reasons to buy the local homegrown tobacco and roll them myself. The Malboroughs, along with most commercial cigarettes, make it virtually impossible for me to climb a flight a stairs without wheezing and give me symptoms akin to allergies. These new cigarettes are much lighter, so maybe my metabolism is being altered?
Anyhow I don't feel the slightest bit of hunger and it's 10:15 pm where I live, so I know that what I've eaten the past couple days has fulfilled all my nutritional needs. Last time I weighed myself was two days ago and the scale read 155.
What's certain for sure is that I'm in no rush - I want to do it right this time and I want the results to last forever.
