Diabetes...

In 3rd world countries they call type 2 diabetes the prosperity disease! 
Why? Because the victims of this disease can literally be inviting this opportunistic disease into their home and body via the fork and the hole below their nose!  Especially with over eating, over indulging and an over abundance of processed to death fast food that's never seen the light of day and went straight from the laboratory to your grocery store shelf.  Thus the prosperity disease!!!  Has it begun in your life?  If not, Look Out!!!

In 1998 the World Health Organization predicted that by the year 2025, 22 million Americans would have diabetes. But the overachieving American  reached that milestone 20 years faster than originally predicted.  By 2005 almost 22 million Americans were diagnosed with some type of diabetes.

And even worse is the horrifying fact that 1 out of 2 kindergarten children will have a form of diabetes and 1 out of 3 children are considered obese right now!

That's scary!  And should be an eye opener for all of us! 
"What's going on?"

I'll tell you what's going on!  We're well educated, well-to-do, overweight, blessed, sedentary Americans! 
 
With the crazy lives we all lead, it's easy to let little things slip that can have a huge effect on your health in the long run.

Do you drink too much caffeine or not enough water?

Do you get nine servings of fruits and veggies every day? What about sleep? I'm talking good, solid, uninterrupted sleep, not the 4 or 5 hours you sneak in after your last round of e-mail every night.

Do you make--and keep--your doctor's appointments? Maybe you know your blood pressure and cholesterol count, but what about your blood sugar?

So this week we're talking about disorders diseases and what you need to know so you're not another statistic!

Diabetes is an ailment that occurs when the Pancreas is unable to secrete enough Insulin to maintain a normal blood sugar level, which is of course Glucose, leading to high Blood Sugar levels. 

A person is regarded as having Diabetes if their Blood Sugar concentration is greater than 140 mg per deciliter after an overnight fast.

With studies showing 1 out of 2 Americans already have diabetes, You need to listen up and find out what might be setting you up for a health disaster! 

I lived with diabetes in my home, both of my parents were diabetic.  It's no fun and there is a better way and tremendous hope for so many of you!  Let's make changes and stack the deck in our favor instead of leaving of heritage of disease for our children to look back on! 

What's the root?

Diabetes patients generally exhibit elevated Homocysteine levels.  And what am I saying???  Stress, stress and more stress!  In fact, elevated Homocysteine levels increase your risk of heart disease and a whole lot more.  Elevated Insulin levels increase the risk of type 2 Diabetes. And here's a no brainer, Excessive consumption of Saturated Fatty Acids is implicated in Diabetes. 

Trans-Fatty Acids increase the risk of developing Diabetes by decreasing the response of Red Blood Cells to Insulin.  According to the FDA, ZERO levels of trans fats are good for you!  READ LABELS!!!

Excessive consumption of Alcohol increases the risk of Diabetes as well as other ailments.

Obesity is a key factor in Diabetes!  And remember, 20 pounds overweight is considered obese! 

Chronic Insomnia increases the risk of Diabetes.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) increases the risk of Diabetes! 

The Glycemic Index has been developed as a means of rating the effect that a particular Food has on Blood Sugar levels.  Foods that cause a rapid rise in Blood Sugar (and consequently an excessive release of Insulin) are known as "high glycemic foods".  Conversely, "low glycemic foods" cause a slower, sustained increase in Blood Sugar and Insulin.  Carbohydrate-containing Foods are measured relative to the Glucose standard value of 100.

Think about cakes, muffins, those oh so delicious, creamy and sugary pastires!  And ummmmm if they're deep fried and you add some transfats in the mix!   And then top it off with a soda!   And oh yeah, all you diet soda drinks, guess what, Aspartame exacerbates the side effects of Cataracts, Diabeties Neuropathy, Diabetic Retinopathy.
Yeah, You've got a meal made in diabetes heaven!    

So hopefully you now have an idea of what might be the root cause of your blood sugar ebbs and woes...So on with the good news!

Ever heard of Stevia?

Stevia lowers elevated Blood Sugar levels in Diabetes.
In one study on humans, 6 - 8 hours after the ingestion of Stevia by hospitalized patients, Blood Sugar levels dropped by 35%.

WOW Let's think about this!  Aspartame - man made can be a contributing cause of diabetes and Stevia - God made lowers blood sugar levels.  Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out!

So you know what sugar to eat, where do you go in the meal from here?   How about???

Legumes are excellent Insulin regulators and can sometimes eliminate the need for Diabetes Mellitus patients to receive Insulin injections (due to the fact that legumes have a high content of Polysaccharides)

Kidney Beans are beneficial for Diabetes patients (due to the Lectins content of Kidney Beans which influence Insulin levels).  Eat Chilli...

Lentils also effectively regulate Blood Sugar levels in Diabetes due to the Polysaccharides.

Evening Primrose Oil (4,800 mg per day) alleviates the symptoms of diabetic Neuropathy (due to the Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) content of Evening Primrose Oil). 

Flax Seed Oil alleviates Diabetes by lowering Insulin requirements.

Fenugreek Seeds lower Blood Sugar levels in Diabetes and their good for any lung, mucous, and congestion ailments. 

And one of my green favorites, Asparagus reputedly alleviates Diabetes according to anecdotal reports. 

Bitter Melon (unripened) alleviates Diabetes due to the Blood Sugar lowering capabilities of Charantin and the ability of Polypeptide-P to substitute for Insulin within the body)  Hey, I'll have some bitter melon please...
Human studies have demonstrated that Bitter Melon lowers Blood Sugar levels more effectively than the pharmaceutical drug - Tolbutamide. 

Celery reputedly alleviates Diabetes (according to anecdotal reports). 

Garlic alleviates Diabetes by lowering Blood Sugar levels. 

Globe Artichoke improves the metabolic function of Diabetes patients (due to the Inulin in Globe Artichoke improving Blood Sugar control). 

Jerusalem Artichoke potently regulates Blood Sugar levels in Diabetes patients as well.

Onions exert significant Blood Sugar-lowering actions in Diabetes patients.  Onions are as effective as the Pharmaceutical Drugs, Tolbutamide and Phenformin, in lowering Blood Sugar levels in Diabetes Mellitus patients.

Spinach also alleviates Diabetes Mellitus. 

 Brewer's Yeast (9 grams per day) normalizes Blood Sugar levels, improves Glucose tolerance and improves Insulin sensitivity in Diabetes Mellitus patients (primarily due to the Chromium content of Brewer's Yeast).   It makes you sleep great and get your bowels cleaned out all at the same time!
 
We all need to do it God's way!  Remember Psalms 103, He satisfies our mouth with good things so that our youth is renewed like the eagle.  And that means we need to find out what God called good!

Gymnema sylvestre lowers elevated Blood Sugar (Glucose) levels (especially in Diabetes Mellitus patients (due to the Gymnemic Acids content of Gymnema sylvestre).

It inhibits the absorption of Glucose.

And here's one you may not have heard of ...   

Vanadium (Vanadyl Sulfate form) lowers Blood Sugar levels and increases Glucose uptake in Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 patients.  Vanadium (by lowering Insulin Resistance) is a therapeutic agent for treating Diabetes Mellitus Type 2:  Laboratory studies involving rats has substantiated that supplemental Vanadyl Sulfate lowers Blood Sugar levels in rats afflicted with Diabetes Mellitus Type 2.  Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 patients who were supplemented with 100 mg of Vanadyl Sulfate per day for three weeks experienced improved stability of their Blood Sugar levels.  Vanadium (especially the Vanadyl Sulfate form of Vanadium) decreases Insulin Resistance (especially in Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 patients).

Alcohol triggers the production of Cholesterol within the Cell Membranes and the Nicotine ingested from Tobacco smoking increases Cholesterol production.  Excessive consumption of dietary Carbohydrates raises bad cholesterol and even fructose increases serum Cholesterol levels by an average of 9%. 

Sucrose increases the production of endogenous Cholesterol and high Insulin levels cause an increase in the endogenous production of Cholesterol. 

Cafestol (a Diterpene found in unfiltered Coffee) increases total serum Cholesterol levels.  Excessive consumption of dietary Fats stimulates Cholesterol production in the Intestine. 

Trans-Fatty Acids increase total serum Cholesterol levels by up to 15%. 

Excessive consumption of Casein raises Cholesterol levels.  Casein is found in dairy products.

These Ailments Increase the Body's Production of Cholesterol...

    Elevated serum cholesterol levels can occur as a result of Hypothyroidism.  Insulin Resistance can result in elevated serum Cholesterol levels. 
   
    Upper body Obesity increases the risk of elevated serum Cholesterol levels. 

    Excessive Stress increases the body's production of endogenous Cholesterol (which is then used in the manufacture of the Adrenal Hormones that are released in response to Stress). 

Serum Cholesterol levels below 160 are considered sub-optimal (people with sub-optimal Cholesterol levels have a greater incidence of Strokes, Lung Ailments, some types of Cancer and Alcoholism).

The standard range for Serum Cholesterol should be

Between -    180 - 220  Borderline high would is 200 - 239
And anything above 240, should be taken serious!

Cancer


In the United States, Cancer is the second leading cause of death.  If all the years of cancer research had been as effective as claimed and if all the so-called medical breakthroughs had been real, obviously fewer and fewer people would get and die of cancer instead of more and more.

Every one knows at least one or more people that have died of cancer!  Or they are battling it themselves.  In 1971 President Richard Nixon declared "war against cancer." A cure was widely expected in five to 10 years. Today instead of a cancer cure we have a cancer epidemic. Cancer now kills more Canadians and Americans in a single year than all of World War II did.

In fact, more than twice as many people get and die of cancer today than was the case in the early seventies. Cancer rates in Canada and the US have increased far beyond population growth. The latest statistics show that about 40 per cent of Canadians and Americans get cancer and most of them die of it.  Countless millions of dollars have been spent worldwide on cancer research (More than $30 billion in the US alone).

In the meantime our environment is becoming more and more carcinogenic. The air we breathe, the water we drink and the foods we eat are increasingly exposing us to cancer-causing agents.

According to the World Health Organization at least 80 per cent of all cancer is environmentally caused and therefore preventable.  While cancer organizations, research institutions, governments and corporations direct most of their funds at treatment instead of prevention.  And the Treatment often causes more misery than the disease itself and in many cases it is unsuccessful.  

Most treatments boil down to cut it out, radiate it or chemo!  None of which are pleasant to even think of much less endure!

A few years ago I wrote a diet for Dr. Gus Kotsanis.  He requested this because he typically got the patients that had been given up on.  Basically the walking dead!  He used alternative as well as traditional medicine and knew he had to have a diet his patients could live with!  The great thing is, its not just for cancer patients, it just for eating healthy.

Recommendations for breakfast -
            Millet Cereal
            Boiled eggs
            Oats
            Oat bran
            Amaranth
            Yogurt Smoothies with Creations Bounty
            Any fresh fruit especially all berries, as well as Granny Smith Apples Concord grapes.

Lunch -
            Any yellow and deep-orange vegetables, such as; carrots, pumpkin, squash, and yams.  Brazil nuts, cantaloupes, plums, cherries, grapes, legumes.  Including chickpeas, lentils and red  beans.  (Berries protect from DNA damage.)
           
            Cook all sprouts slightly, except for alfalfa which should be eaten raw.

            Eat as much garlic (except with liver issues) eat onions as much as possible as well as taking supplements.

            Eat least ten almonds daily.  They contain laetrile, which has anticancer properties.

            Drink beet juice, (roots and greens), carrot juice, fresh cabbage juice, and asparagus juice often.  Grape, black cherry, and all dark-colored juices are good, as are black currants.  Fresh  apple juice.

            Drink only steam distilled water, which will raise the pH level.  Acid breeds disease!

Snack suggestions -

            Now remember when we talk snacks, Absolutely no processed sugar!  White sugar is like throwing fuel on a fire!     Snacks should be things like -
            Cashew or almond butter with raw honey or molasses on spelt bread.  Raw vegetables, fruit, or grains.  Kefir, or yogurt.  Frozen bananas or grapes, (all grapes and apples are excellent,    Grapes should have seeds, the darker the color the better, all fruit and vegetables should be washed with food grade hydrogen peroxide).  A great sandwich is spelt bread toasted with  almond butter, spinach leaves and sliced radishes, its quite tasty.

Dinner suggestions -
           
            Brown rice, steamed vegetables, salads.  Homemade soups. 
            Cous Cous, all nuts except peanuts.  Baked sweet potatoes with Cinnamon and nutmeg are a delight. 
            Vegetarian burger, vegetarian chicken patti or pacific Salmon.  

Do Not
consume any peanuts or peanut products, junk foods, processed refined foods, saturated fats, table salt, sugar, white or bleached flour.

Instead use sea salt, kelp, or a potassium substitute.  Black strap molasses or pure maple syrup. 

For breads, use amaranth or spelt flour.

No animal protein of any kind, lunch meats, hot dogs, or smoked or cured meats.  These typically contain more than their share of preservatives with known carcinogens.

Use glass cookware and wooden cooking utensils.

And Avoid microwave ovens.

Ok, lets talk Carcinogens -

Well, according to Webster's a Carcinogen is a substance or agent producing or inciting cancer!  And according to Otto Warburg a famed Ph.D.,  that won a Nobel prize in the late 40's for his study of carcinogens, says a carcinogen is anything that lacks oxygen! 

Synthetic chemicals, drugs and foods typically do not contain oxygen!  But guess what, living foods do...Remember, we were put in a garden at the beginning of time, not a lab! 

According to the National Institute for Cancer -

by simply eating 5 fresh fruits and veggies a day, you can cut your risk of cancer by 30%.  By eating a half cup of oat bran a day you can cut your risk of cancer by another 30% says Dr. Cooper of the Cooper Institute. 

You can't go wrong keeping those bowels clean.  And by taking Selenium on a daily basis you can cut your risk of cancer by another 50%, let's see 30, 30 and 50, Hey, that adds up to 110%  Alright you may be asking what is Selenium?  Selenium is a trace mineral that used to be found in the food chain in ample amounts!  While we should eat those foods that contain trace amounts of Selenium, the facts is that this trace mineral is one I don't want to be without due to the multitude of uses in the human body.

Selenium can be found in  foods like - Wheat Germ, Whole Grain Bread, Wheat Bran, Barley, Eggs, Mushrooms, Astragalus, Bilberry, Echinacea, Feverfew, Hawthorn, Pau D'Arco, Sarsaparilla, Stevia, (sweeten your tea and attack cancer)  I love it!  Legumes, Rabbit, Chicken, Brazil Nuts,gotta have em, these little babies are so high in selenium, one Brazil nut depending on where its grown can contain 50-100 mcg of Selenium,...Herring, Tuna. 

Veggies such as Asparagus, Cabbage, Celery, Garlic, Onions, Potatoes, Radishes, Tomatoes and Brewer's Yeast!   Now, I am so passionate about Selenium I have to give you more info!  If there is one supplement you should take, it's Selenium! 

Let's recap 
By eating 5 fresh fruits and veggies a day you can cut your risk of cancer by 30%, by eating half cup of oat bran a day you can cut your risk of cancer by another 30% and by taking 200 mcg of Selenium you can cut your risk of  cancer by 50%.  That's 110%

Now more about Selenium!

Selenium is a powerful free radical scavenger and Aids in protein Digestion.  When taken with Vitamin E they work synergistically to aid in the production of antibodies and to help maintain a healthy heart and liver.  Selenium and MSM also work great together due to it's natural sulfur content and it helps keep you out of pain!  Selenium deficiency has been linked to cancer and heart disease.   

As well as other ailments such as:
    Exhaustion
    Growth impairment in children
    High cholesterol
    Infections
    Liver impairment
    Pancreatic insufficiency
    Sterility

Suggested daily usage as a prevention is 200 mcg. daily

If you have a family history of cancer, it is suggested that you take 400 mcg.  That would be 200 mcg 2 X per day and if you have cancer or have had cancer - you would take 200 mcg 4 times per day! 

One UCLA study done on breast cancer showed that up to 86% of women that got breast cancer would have a reoccurrence, but by taking selenium you could cut that risk down to 10%.  That's a 76% difference!

Blood Pressure

The Kidneys are partially responsible for the regulation of Blood Pressure, what are you doing to your kidneys? 
Too much coffee, too much chlorinated water, too many sugary drinks?  Could your kidneys be in over load mode?  How are your kidneys supposed to regulate your blood pressure when their spending all their time trying to dump the junk you're taking in???  Stop it!!! 

Studies show Continual, long-term Water deficiency (i.e. Dehydration) is a contributory factor in some cases of Hypertension.

39% of Hypertension patients are found to be deficient in Coenzyme Q10.  CoQ10 not only lowers Blood pressure and cholesterol but improves the Heart's ability to survive and produce energy in Hypoxia which is a limited Oxygen situation such as:  High Altitudes, Clogged Arteries, situations where Blood Clots affect the flow of oxygenated Blood to Cardiac Muscle, When Blood has high Fat content and During Angina. Coenzyme Q10 improves the function of the Left Ventricle of the Heart and normalizes Heart function in Mitral Valve Prolapse patients.  Coenzyme Q10 helps to prevent Stroke and helps to prevent mortality (death) in people who have experienced a Stroke.

Heart

Capsaicin improves Blood Circulation to the Heart.

Carnitine an amino acid (found in lamb) significantly improves the function of the Heart.  Heart disease patients usually exhibit Carnitine deficiency.  Heart failure is a symptom of Carnitine deficiency. 

Carnitine assists the production of Energy within the Heart and Carnitine facilitates cardiac contractions.

Chelation Therapy using EDTA improves the function of the Heart.  EDTA also cleans out the arteries and improves circulation.
   
Taurine an amino acid,

Concentrates in the Heart and enhances various aspects of Heart function.      Taurine is the most abundant and most important Amino Acid in the Heart (it is present in the Heart in greater quantities than all other Amino Acids combined).

Beta-Carotene concentrates in the Heart and is beneficial for various heart ailments.
   
Sunlight increases the efficiency of the Heart.  So get a tan, look good and help your heart.

Regular sunlight exposure actually causes the Heart to become stronger and to pump more Blood, by an average of 39% in 90% of cases.

People with histories of Heart Disease usually have particularly low levels of Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).  This is a supplement I take daily.  It is good for everything that ails you.

Alpha-Linolenic Acid (LNA) helps to generate the electrical currents that make the Heart beat in an orderly sequence.
           
Calcium helps to normalize Heart rhythm by allowing Heart muscles to contract.  And otimal Copper levels enhance the health of the Heart.      Heart disturbances can occur as a symptom of Magnesium deficiency.

Coenzyme Q10 improves the ability of the Heart to survive in limited Oxygen (Hypoxia) situations, stabilizes Heartbeat and improves many other aspects of Heart function.  Co Q10 is highly beneficial for persons about to undergo Heart Surgery.  Co Q10 counteracts the toxic effects of Ischemia on the Heart.
 
The Heart's Coenzyme Q10 levels decline with the progression of the Aging Process, so it's a must to supplement with CoQ10 as we age.

Heart abnormalities can occur as a result of Biotin deficiency.

As well as a Choline deficiency, Choline is helpful in the treatment of Heart Palpitations.

CDP-choline, DMAE and Centrophenoxine are likely to be more potent than Choline.

Coenzyme Q10 may be of value for the prevention of Alzheimer's disease. 

It helps to prevent the neuron damage that occurs during Alzheimer's Disease.  Deficiencies in coenzyme Q10-dependent enzymes may be implicated in the development of the neuronal death that results in Alzheimer's disease. 

Reversal of mental function deterioration has been documented in several studies utilizing supplemental coenzyme Q10, including documented improvements in mental function in people with genetically-confirmed Alzheimer's disease.

Dosage: 300 mg per day (taken as 3 x 100 mg doses).

Studies have shown that people with low DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) levels have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. 

It is not known whether or not supplemental DHA affects the course of existing Alzheimer's disease, although logic indicates that it could affect the course of this disease because of its numerous beneficial actions on the brain.

Dosage: 600 - 2,200 mg per day.

Alternatives:   

Fish Oils are a good source of DHA.Flax Seed Oil and Perilla Oil both contain high levels of the omega-3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid which is converted within the body to form DHA.

Oily Fish such as Herring, Salmon, Mackerel, Trout and Sardines contain high levels of DHA.

Dosage: 2 - 4 tablespoons per day.

Folic acid helps to prevent Alzheimer's disease by lowering serum homocysteine levels.  High levels of homocysteine increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease and accelerate the progression of Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease patients have been found to have abnormally low levels of glutamine in their cerebrospinal fluid.  Glutamine helps to increase the body's glutathione levels (Alzheimer's disease patients generally have abnormally low levels of glutathione).
