Wild Horse Population Threatened by Proposed U.S. Government Action
A decision on the fate of thousands of Wild Horses, known as mustangs, is expected TODAY, Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, when the Bureau of Land Management's National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board meets in Reno, Nevada.

How To Make Your Voice Heard TODAY

Email board administrative assistant Ramona DeLorme at Ramona_DeLorme@blm.gov. Please use the identifer "WH&B" in the subject of the message and include your name and address in the body of the message. She can also be reached at 775-861-6583.

Wild Horses Appear Headed for Extermination
The government is proposing that the Bureau of Land Management should implement euthanasia as a tool in handling wild horse populations. The BLM is the government agency tasked with overseeing the country's wild horse population.
That means that the 30,000 wild horses now in goverment custody  (more than are left in the wild) may soon be eradicated. The wild horses, already threatened by other Bush Administration actions, are drastically endanger by this "cost cutting" measure.
A century ago, there were around 2 million wild horses roaming the West; now the BLM wants to cut that population to 27,000.

How You Can Help NOW
Please get in touch with President-elect Barack Obama, as well as your representatives and senators, and let them know that extermination of wild horses is unconscionable and that Congress should take a hard look at exactly why so many wild horses have been rounded up in recent years.
Incidentally, Obama was a backer of the anti-slaughter legislation that Congress passed a couple of years ago  which shut down the country's three remaining, and foreign-owned, horse rendering plants. This legislation was passed by a huge margin, thanks to a massive grass-roots campaign.   The original law, the Free-Roaming Wild Horse and Burro Act, was signed in 1972.
