THOUGHTS ON THE "WHITE LIGHT" PRAYER
by Douglas James Cottrell

On a number of occasions over the years, I have been asked to "put a white light" around someone. I do not know the origin of this phrase, but I can attest to its popularity. I have met many who believe it to be standard metaphysical practice in helping another in crisis. Unfortunately, they appear to have little understanding of what they are doing. In fact, I was recently asked, "if I just put a white light around someone who needs help, they will be safe ... won't they?"
My answer always surprises people, for I do not believe in doing this. I believe you should pray for what you actually want to happen, rather than "white light" (whatever that means).
Anyone can pray to influence the outcome of some event. Everyone has that ability, for prayer is a real thing. Thoughts are real things, and as we know (and as science is now demonstrating) thoughts can influence and transform matter. But understand thoughts can either curse or bless. The Bible illustrates this in the story of Jesus cursing a fig tree (Mark 11:20). Overnight, the tree withers and dies. The power of the prayer (blessing or curse) comes from the strength of the belief that the thought will be manifested in the physical world. As I have said on many occasions, if you commit a prayer with any doubt in your mind, the prayer is instantly negated. If you can picture the outcome that you are praying for - whether a circumstance, or a tangible object - you are already on your way to believing the prayer can come true. Why pray for something you don't believe will happen in the first place? It is a waste of energy. Now, from my experience, the difference between prayers that come true, and prayers that don't is one of desperation.
If you are starving, you become desperate to get food and water. The desperation is the impetus to commit the prayer, and then to do everything you can to make sure you get what you need. In other words, it is a matter of need versus want. Think back and consider that you have always received what you absolutely needed in life, A) because you had the thing you needed clearly in mind, B) you knew it to be real when it was received in the real world (i.e. you could see, taste, feel, hear, or smell it); and C) you took action to get it and didn't stop until you did - no matter what you needed to do. Aimless thoughts of prosperity don't carry much impetus to come true, but concrete thoughts to acquire some thing you desperately need always come true. Always.
The neophyte who casually sends out to the universal consciousness a nebulous thought of "white light" may have good intentions, but I suggest using prayer in such a way that does not interfere with the personal karma of another, yet still accomplishes the original intention of helping in some concrete way. If you know what someone wants or needs in life, then indeed pray for it, so that it might be realised in the physical world. Again, this cannot be a condition such as "happiness," but rather something that can be discerned by one (or more) of the five physical senses. It is OK to pray for plenty. It is OK to pray for physical wealth. But pray for what you believe in your heart can be attained.
In your mind, see the person receiving the object of your prayer, and as you commit the prayer, add the word "soon" or give some time frame. You do not need to know (or pray for) the way in which the prayer is manifested. That's up to the great beyond and God Almighty. But do pray with intensity, sincerity, and concentration.
If a person is going through an operation, for example, pray for the outcome to be successful, the procedure easy, the recovery or healing sped up. Avoid praying for things not to happen. This is a derogatory prayer, born out of fear. If you wish no harm to come to your child while he or she is at school, pray that the child has a wonderful day, surrounded with friends, and returning home with smiles and knowledge. Do, however, be practical, and make your child aware that the world is a place in which one must always be careful and alert.
I have found that the best prayer is to pray for opportunity, and for people to bring opportunities to you (or to the person you are asking for), and - most importantly - for the wisdom to know when an opportunity is at hand. When that opportunity comes, do not hesitate. Be ready to take advantage of the opportunity, and take action to ensure that your prayer is fulfilled.

"In your quest to develop, remember that you are attempting to understand yourself at the greatest levels. This does take courage. For if you put yourself in a closet, there you will have your best friend and your greatest enemy; there you will have the best that you can be and the worst that you can be. Deciding to be better, to overcome the inadequacies of yourself, requires super-human strength. And it also benefits the Self."

FROM THE DTM SESSIONS: 2012
The ancient Mayan calendar ends in December of 2012, which has led many to ponder the significance of this date. Here is Douglas' perspective, taken verbatim from a DTM session.

Q: A substantial number of ancient religions and prophecies all agree that something extraordinary will happen to our planet around the period of December 2012. What is likely to happen in that period?

A: It will be a time of rather singleness of mind, or a unity of mind between the peoples of the world at that point in time. There will be an attempt to move away from extreme behaviour, a cessation of hostilities with the intention of what might be harmony, or rather the sisterly love, you see.

This is a time of extremes, and at that point in time, there would be as to the movement or shift of the magma - or the crust upon the same - a slipping around, so to speak. Not simply the change in magnetic direction or poles, but the physical change or shift, if you will; the tipping of the earth upon its axis, you see, which seems to be wobbling even greater with each passing year - comes closer to that of the time given, you see. In all likelihood, the planet would have a major shift. There may be a slowing in its rotation, then a change in its direction upon its axis. The axis itself may change or wobble greatly from its present location. With this shift or change, there will be upheavals in the weather.

We do not find the planet disintegrating or, here, an ice age or any of that, you see, but rather there will be an attempt to bring together the various people of the world. For there indeed would be great cracks in the earth itself. The planet may begin to change into what might be unrecognizable from its present form, you see, during this time. It is a fulcrum time of place, or pivotal point, you see, that may bring a long duration of change, and in some occasions it will be in the twinkle of an eye - major changes or calamities, you see - again, dealing to the crust of the earth itself, stemming from the changes or rotation shifts, and that of the core of the earth itself being altered or changed, you see, in its present position or location.

"HE'S GREAT, BUT HE'S BORN OUT OF HIS TIME"

A Canadian-based author, who has followed Douglas' career for three decades, relates the following stories about prejudice towards Douglas and his ability.

I first met Douglas in the 1970s when I was in law school struggling with a difficult medical condition. We became friends over the years and I have had the opportunity, on a great many occasions, to see his talent "in action." My conclusion? What Douglas does, seeing in essence with the "eye of the mind," is as far ahead of accepted science today as the jet engine is to the tricycle. Yes, that is a mouthful. But I will stand behind it. In fact, I will go a step further. Douglas' protocol is so off-the-wall, so foreign to everything that our culture holds paramount, that an educated person, faced for the first time with Douglas' hypnotically-induced Deep Trance [Meditation] is as likely to run screaming for the door as he is to sit still and pay heed.

Case in point? In the early 1990s, Omni Magazine (yes, THE Omni Magazine) commissioned a story on Douglas from a respected freelance writer. The story was discussed, outlined, approved, researched, written, re-approved, and finally accepted. The magazine even sent a professional photographer to take a picture of the writer for the "byline box" that usually appears beside major stories. A check was mailed to the writer, which in due course was cashed. Everything was "according to Hoyle," except for one tiny detail. The story was never actually published! No explanation was ever offered. No request was made to have the money returned. And the despondent writer never heard from the magazine again.

Another case in point: during one "test" of Douglas done in a hotel room in Toronto, Ontario in the early 1990s, where - as was done with Edgar Cayce - a medical doctor read the names and addresses of five of his patients, and Douglas, to the doctor's satisfaction, discussed the symptomology of each. Students of Cayce lore will immediately observe that this test duplicated a key test of Cayce at a turning point in his own career.

At the tail end of that session, the MD, a specialist in diabetes research, mentioned to Douglas, still in DTM, that they were testing two protocols for pancreas transplants - one with extraneous fatty tissue still attached, and one without. Which would do better? "The one with the fatty tissue," Douglas replied. Several weeks later, the good doctor was kind enough to contact the writer to confirm that Douglas was correct. Unfortunately, the findings of this test were never published (which was the reason Douglas agreed to participate in the first place); and (no surprise) Douglas was never credited for his involvement in the diabetes research either.

All this is really a shame. The likelihood is that we have nothing to lose, and literally everything to gain by paying very close attention indeed. The handful of physicians who have risked censure from their peers to interface with Douglas have, to a man, emerged with the view that years of clinical trial and error could be shaved from major research projects, were someone like Douglas brought in early enough.

During the study of Douglas' extraordinary accomplishments, a very wise individual (a film producer, by trade) commented to me, "He's great. But he is born out of his time." Sadly, one must agree. One has merely to observe the way capital-S SCIENCE has ignored the Edgar Cayce material, delivered literally a half-century earlier, to grasp the difficulty of integrating this phenomenon into the mainstream. No matter that Cayce/Cottrell see diseases like cancer and MS as explainable, preventable, and curable. No matter that seeing health/disease "at the cellular level" trumps even the best electron microscope. No matter that lives could be saved.

But there's the rub. To me it does matter. And it matters a great deal. Many, faced with Douglas for the first time, find it easier to simply assume a hoax or a prank. Some even go a step further and attempt to expose the hoax on their own - for example, the gentleman who not only chose to attend his reading in person (most don't), but wanted to sit behind the couch where Douglas was reclining. No matter that, to all intents and purposes, Douglas has his eyes closed during the session and is effectively, "asleep." This fellow elected, for the course of the reading, to peer up over the top of the couch out into the room in order to see if anyone in Douglas' "line of sight" (a misnomer, but it will have to do) was feeding him hand signals.

The fellow eventually became a regular client, but that is not the point. The point is that there was, in fact, a hoax being perpetrated, simply not the one expected. The hoax is that our society - our culture - claims, on the one hand, to be actively and aggressively seeking cures to multiple ailments - witness the billion dollar business in medical "research foundations" - but on the other hand, will only accept cures and research methods that meet its standards, fulfill its expectations, and dance to its own very specific tune.

The fact is that, in our present culture (not the culture of our forebears, interestingly enough), the work that Douglas does stirs up feelings of prejudice and bias from the get-go. I had occasion to meet, at a major health fair, a young lady in the business of vending apricot kernels, one of the many hard-to-find and "highly controversial" supplements within the holistic field. As I proceeded with my purchase, I casually mentioned that the item had been recommended in a number of readings by Douglas James Cottrell, "a Deep Trance intuitive."

"Trance!?" repeated the no-longer-as-enthusiastic young woman who was herself selling a food product that many government authorities believe to be highly toxic. "We follow the Bible!" she said, as if that explained just about everything.

"Good for you," I responded glibly, "and if I am not mistaken, a substantial portion of that good work was delivered in an altered state as well!"

We have recently uploaded an unpublished article by this same writer to Douglas' site. This well-researched article, "The Master Mind: A Working Hypothesis for the Deep Trance," examines the phenomenon of Deep Trance Meditation and attempts to come up with a scientific explanation for what Douglas does, and the mechanism at work in DTM, with reference to Edgar Cayce, the Huna religion, the US government's research into Remote Viewing, and to research being done in the fields of medicine and psychology. It is a fascinating and thought-provoking read! This is the article you will want your friends and family to read. To access this exclusive article, CLICK HERE.

ADVICE FROM DOUGLAS

Q: From time to time, I seem to have premonitions of accidents or events. I dreamed that I was going to have an accident and land in the hospital for a time, and it happened! All I could think about was my wife and child being left with no means of support. I landed in a hospital in Basrah, Iraq with massive burns to my face, legs and arms. It was a frightening experience, to say the least. Luckily my burns were from steam and more scalding but I became infected in the hospital from poor hygiene and treatment. Having second sight is not a thing to be scoffed at.

A: I suggest you try this in meditation. Before you look inward, you first relax - then slow down your breathing and heart rate with long exhalations, holding as long as possible between breaths (empty lungs). Next, look for a colour in your mind's eye (a sphere shape usually forms), then look at this until it becomes vivid in your mind's eye. Then bring this shape and colour nearer to your vision; then in time bring this shape right up to you, as if you were going to look or go right through it. Then "look" at your question's answer. In fooling the ego or conscious mind, pull the answer out of something, like a box, bottle or chest, etc. I use a red light / green light to get yes or no answers.

Demonstrations like this - second sight, as you call it - indeed means your awareness is beyond the corporeal world. It is not to be feared. I know ignorance is bliss, but if you get a warning, then it's up to you to choose to either prevent the situation or go through it. The warning was given to you (as a premonition or precognitive vision) and as you have advanced or done something that could set aside this suffering, you have earned good karma. [Now the terms "good" or "bad" really don't apply to karma. Karma is just karma. I just use them to make my point.]

The ability of seeing future events is an ability that separates the unaware (or spiritually asleep) people from all the prophets and holy men/women who, by seeing things with their spiritual vision or meditation before they happen, allow these folks to change the predicted event by taking some sort of action to step aside of the crisis or event and avoid it. As an example, my son was seen in dreams having an accident on a bridge north of the downtown, by several of his family members. The message is clear. The solution? Stay away from this bridge. He obeyed, and now, years later, no accident has happened.

Foreseeing the karma that cannot be avoided, but only warned about, allows the blessing to be prepared in advance (i.e. seeing a car on fire and not being able to put out the fire means you should get some fire extinguishers and carry them around in your car, because you or someone you know (or will meet) will need them. This is the difference between free will and fate. Even Noah, being forewarned of the flood, had a choice to make.

I'd much rather see in advance the good and the bad, so that I might always have hope, than to think I am lost in an unfair world.
