Creating Unity by thomas .....

How I am Trying to Create Unity within Myself and My World

The other day I was thinking about this path I have been traveling on and I realized that the ultimate goal for me is to create unity in an attempt to become one with all things. While I have begun the process of creating unity within myself, I also acknowledge the importance of creating unity within all of my relationships including those with family members and friends. Up to this point my experiences have shown me that the key to unity within myself and these other relationships is truth. I now see truth as the light that fills a darkened room. Many have said that dark is not an entity unto itself, it is simple the absence of light. I guess lies, judgments and misconceptions can be seen in the same regard. They are not entities unto themselves; instead they are simple examples of the absence of truth. To banish them from our existence we have only to turn on the truth switch and watch them vanish from sight.

From an individual level we must unleash the truth of who we really are and who we ultimately chose to become. Many of us now know that we are spiritual beings having a human existence. Yet, most of the time we cannot see beyond that human experience. And many of us including myself have attached to that human experience a tremendous amount of pain, suffering, fear, anger and a myriad of other emotions. These are all boulders we so willingly carry around on our backs down the paths of misery, disharmony and dis-ease. I hope that we all can one day reach a point where we finally throw down these boulders and spiritually fly as free as the birds we see around us. However, I don’t see how any of us can let them loose until we seek our inner truth. To seek that inner truth, we must be willing to look at ourselves completely and honestly. What are the old beliefs, limiting thoughts, negative images, judgments or fears that we have created during our present and past lives. We must seek these out, acknowledge and then release them to the universe to be grounded and transmuted.

These are all themes that I have touched on before, but I keep revisiting them as they are all things I am still coming to grips with and dealing with on a daily basis. Who would have thought that one of the toughest things in life would be to be honest with yourself? I can only guess that the conditioning that we all have received is the culprit. I know that Don Miguel Ruiz refers to this as the domestication process. We have all been domesticated to believe that we are small helpless creatures. Victims of a silent God who allows us to float unaided in a sea of circumstance. Amazingly, we are all beginning to awaken and break free from the shackles of this domestication. We are all seeking freedom. Freedom from the tiny tightly locked boxes that we and society have built for us.

Yet, I must say again that this is a difficult process. I would not take that away from anyone. And I know that some including me would say that we are the ones who make it difficult. We make it difficult by resisting God and the universe. And I guess I have learned this the hard way as I have done a lot of resisting along the way. There were many times that I could see the universe working with me to make certain situations easier, but I resisted. I chose the hard way instead, which is unfortunate but hey that’s the way it was. No use beating myself up over it. As long as we are all headed in the right direction what’s the difference. The great thing is that we all have the ability to learn from these mistakes. And these wonderful lessons provide us with the chance to step back and look at our life situations in an attempt to be proactive instead of reactive.

My hope is that I will continually move in the direction of seeking my personal truth. To one day reach that mountaintop and look out upon the beauty of the world. And when I have released all the fears that keep me tied to this non-real reality, I hope to spring from my perch and fly within an endless sky of co-creation. Just think of the possibility of manifesting in your life everything you ever dreamed possible and even those things that you never thought possible. To me that would be complete and utter joy. What more could any of us ask for than this?

I also believe that while we are trying to achieve unity within ourselves it is also important for us to seek unity within all of our other relationships including those we have with family and friends. I guess this can be looked at in two ways. The first is to share with our family and friends our personal truths. To express to each of them who we really are and who we chose to become in this lifetime. To share with them the truth of who we are. By doing this there are no longer any need for lies or misdeeds as there is no longer anything to protect or cover up. We have bared ourselves completely and for better or worse we are who we are.

When I think about it most of the time we are not honest with others because we have these horrible misguided images of ourselves and we are in a constant state of fear that everyone else will find these things out. We all project the fears we have of ourselves onto others. If this person finds out they are going to think I am stupid or selfish or immoral or some other horrible thing. The fact is that the only reason we fear others will think these types of things is because we already think them about ourselves. And by holding onto them we are most likely going to create situations where people do think this way because we have not allowed for any other possibility. Hence our negative experiences will easily follow our negative thought patterns.

In our attempts to protect ourselves and prevent others from finding out who we are, we are creating disunion. From my own experiences, I can see the disunion that my fears have created in my relationships with family and friends. The fear that they will learn who I really am. But the amazing part is that as I begin to let go all the old judgments and fears I have held about myself, I am realizing that whatever it was that I thought was so bad about me really isn’t bad at all. I imagine everyone winds up realizing the same thing. However, I have also realized that by spending all this time trying to hide away all of these supposed bad parts I was also hiding away all of the beautiful and amazing parts of who I am. I now realize that this is a terrible unfortunate outcome as each one of us has so much to offer each other and the world. We all have been blessed with so many gifts that were meant to enrich all of our human experiences.

Once we have begun to share our personal truth with these friends and family members, we can then look at the relationships on their own. Just as we have freed ourselves from our own fears, judgments and pain, let’s do that with all of our relationships as well. If you have brothers or sisters or a mother or father or even a friend who you feel wronged or hurt you, tell them. Be honest with them. But be honest in an attempt to create an open and loving relationship not because you’re looking for an apology or to punish them for it. I see it as entering into a discourse where we agree to ask for and give forgiveness freely. This will be the one constant in the relationship that will not change no matter the circumstances.

I just see the creation of unity with our friends and family as a necessary step in the goal of spiritual oneness. I don’t know how anyone can achieve oneness and create harmony if they are unable to achieve unity within something as basic as our own family. These are all stepping stones that lead us to the grander ideals of creating this same unity within our societies and the grandest vision of a unified planet where all life forms co-exist with each other in a balanced and loving manner. Some may scoff at such a grand vision and call it naïve, but I personally think it is about time that we all start thinking on a grander scale. Why not, what do we really have to lose?

I can see this happening very easily. As each of us creates greater unity within ourselves, within our families and our communities we will then demand just as much from our governments and other institutions. We will move forward in this world and look with honesty at everything around us. We will then determine whether these things unify or divide us. If they divide, we will then make the collective choice to do away with them. Anything that divides or separates us no longer serves us. The societal divisions we have created based on race, nationality, gender, sexua| orientation, age, political inclination, economic standing, culture and even religion will be washed away by an ocean of truth and love. And throughout this entire process God will be watching. This search for and creation of unity will bring us ever closer to the ultimate goal of union with God.

So if you are on your own wonderful journey of light, just remember that all that you do and all that you accomplish has far greater implications. The closer each of us gets to inner unity is the closer we all get to global unity. It is simple a matter of changing the world one person at a time.
