Correction of the soul
August 6th – September 3rd, 2005

Not a day passes when a student doesn’t come up to me, call me, or email me with the burning question: ‘When will I find my soul mate?’

I tell them that we have more than one soul mate in life and that finding our soul mates isn’t a goal, it is a means to reach our goal.

And our goal is the correction of our soul.

Imagine our lives are plotted on a timeline - 1 thru 100. We begin this journey at 1 and our goal is to reach 100. Every time we share when it’s uncomfortable, every time we resist hatred for no reason - basically every time we work in accordance with the spiritual laws of the universe (human dignity, tolerance, compassion and unconditional love) - we advance ourselves closer to 100.

Soul mates are kindred spirits with whom we’ve shared the path in previous incarnations and are now reconnecting with us in this lifetime in order to help us finally make it to 100.

The Zohar teaches us that if we focus on moving down the line, (ie. doing our spiritual work,) we can merit the appearance of soul mates. And some soul mates are intended to accompany us for a lifetime and others for less. But regardless of how long you are together, you know when you’ve met a soul mate when something clicks and feels profoundly right.

This month there is a celestial harmony creating the perfect balance between Light and vessel that can facilitate the meeting of soul mates. If we want to bring this Light into our lives we need to mirror this balance in our actions. Kabbalists teach us that we must maintain a 50-50 partnership with the Light. This requires hard work while simultaneously understanding that it is the Light that is the source of our success. Conversely, we must be wary not to sit back and wait for the Light to do everything. It is a balance of giving and receiving that we must strive for.

It is this awareness that can draw the energy of soul mates into all our lives this month and every month.
