The Message Is Simple: "Let's Do It!" by greggechols .....

There's nothing than a little reggae to help lift our spirits and remind us of our connection to All That Is. As Burning Spear sings in his classic, "Mek We Dweet." Let's Do It!

Mek we dweet
Mek we dweet
Mek we dweet
And if you ready mek we dweet
And if you ready mek we dweet
Mek we dweet for Jah.
Jah Rastafari.
Do the roots and culture.
Mek we dweet.
And if you ready mek we dweet.
--Mek We Dweet (Let’s Do It), Burning Spear, 1990

This is the revolutionary message by a most revolutionary artist, Burning Spear: Let’s Do It! He sings that all people must “do it,” and in the same light, “every nation have to dweet” as well.

I most heartily agree.

Let’s do it, and now. Let’s do it for Jah Rastafari, let’s do it for God, let’s do it for the Creator, let’s do it for Buddha, let’s do it for the Pope. Let’s just do it!

Most of all, let’s do it for ourselves.

So you might ask: What is it we’re doing? What is it that Burning Spear is singing about?

Do what?

Glad you asked.

For Burning Spear—a legendary reggae singer from Jamaica who happens to be one of the most “conscious” singers on the planet today—this means shouldering the load and taking care of business. For the common man, this would be doing what the African healer Mandaza calls “doing the donkey work:” taking care of the planet, taking care of our fellow man, healing ourselves and by doing that, healing the planet and everyone around us.

Mek we dweet.

Let’s do it for ourselves, each and every one of us. Let’s take the time to bless ourselves when we get up in the morning: bless our loved ones; bless our home and everything in it. Let’s get up in the morning and thank Jah or God or The Good Lord or The Creator or all of the above and feel good about breathing on a new, decidedly different day. The indigenous Aborigines culture of Australia gives plenty of thanks each morning to the Creator for blessing them with the new arrival of the sun each morning.

Let’s do it.

This is about taking the responsibility for our connection with All That Is and doing our part in living with right thought, right action, right speech, right livelihood, right effort, right awareness, and right contemplation. It’s all been laid out for us—we don’t have to make it up. Mek we dweet. It’s all there for us to do.

The ancients would suggest that we take the time to pay attention to everything we do, and Burning Spear would agree. We should bless our thoughts and bless our words as if we were blessing our food. We should work the unseen, invisible energies as if we were driving our car. Nothing manifests without our effort.

Let’s do it.

Create powerful, loving thoughts, along with powerful, loving prayers. Conscious participation in each event in our lives will make the difference. That’s how we shoulder the load and take care of business. Every nation should do it. If we, as individuals, shoulder the load, then, yes, we can do it. As Burning Spear says, Mek We Dweet.
