The New Paradigm Seeks New Moves by greggechols .....

Our relationship with the ancestors is something that we must heal in order to properly move through the paradigm shift that is quickly moving us forward into our future. We are an ill society because we do not honor the Goddess, nor our ancestors.

Quite possibly, one aspect of this paradigm shift the world (and our society) is experiencing is returning to a relationship with the ancestors—the spirits of place, nature, the elements, and those beings who came before us. Modern day psychology would claim such relationships to be “animistic” or “infantile” or perhaps even “primitive”: but, we must admit, such relationships could be necessary to helping restore balance between humanity and the soul of the planet.

Mary Watkins writes in Waking Dreams:

We do not ask the plants and animals we eat for their permission to do so, nor do we thank coyotes for helpful wisdom given to us at nightfall…we live out the imagination in everything and yet we are against the very notion of it.

We have failed the ancestors and the spiritual realm by our refusal to honor them. We have bought the religious notion that there is a man “upstairs” who watches over us, determines our fate and our punishment, and is the arbiter of daily life. We do not believe in anything that cannot be seen, unless it has been proclaimed by religious authority to be trustworthy. We listen with our ears and not with our hearts.

Our nightly dreams remind us of our connection with Mother Earth, and our refusal to honor the Mother Goddess. Our illnesses remind us of our refusal to acknowledge a realm that is as real as the computer screen and keyboard that are before my eyes and at my touch. Our alienation from our fellow humans—and those beings we refer to as animals, plants, stones, water, land, and air—has left us depressed, confused, chronically ill, and madder than hell.

So how will honoring the ancestors and listening to the voices of Mother Earth play a role in this paradigm shift? How will this shifting of dimensions and opening of our consciousness be affecting by our relationship with Spirit?

Perhaps it is because of our changing relationship with those things we cannot see that this global paradigm shift will be so forceful. Perhaps because of our decision to relate to, and relate with, the ancestors, and the spirits of nature, that our reality will continue to change—and in a way that will allow for our conscious participation, instead of our unconsciously stumbling into this reality. Maybe—and, just maybe—our work, and our expanded intuitive vision, will garner us renewed relationship with aspects of Reality that have been dishonored by our culture for over five centuries.

Let us hope we have the strength, the courage, the power, and the fortitude to renounce our insidious collaboration with this society’s construct of “reality,” and move, instead, into a generous relationship with the ancestors, Mother Earth, the Goddess, and All Our Relations. If we can muster this movement, this so-called “paradigm shift” will, indeed, be one that restores our connection to a Universe that is far more benevolent than any human idea of God that we’ve ever conceived or imagined.
