Day 5 of Juice Fast by Bearded One .....

I run into the dreaded CATERED LUNCH on Day 5 of the fast (fear not, like Indiana Jones I pass the test)

Well,

I think I'm getting into the groove of the fast. I'm getting up, drinking my juice, going to work, working out, drinking another juice and going to bed around the same time every day. I had what should have been one of my biggest temptations today.... The dreaded catered seminar!!!

I do the insurance billing for a family practitioner and yesterday had to attend a Blue Cross Blue Sheild insurance seminar (they are taking over a couple of Medicaid programs in the state). The seminar was also catered and not with crappy food, either. This was good stuff; parmesean chicken, lasagna, italian wedding soup, ceaser salad, fresh fruit, homemade bread, individual cheesecake deserts. Stuff I would normally love to indulge (it was by far the nicest spread I've ever seen for an event like this--and I've been to quite a few)

I went with a fellow co-worker to the seminar (who knows that I am on the juice fast) so it wasn't awkward to not be eating. However, we were sitting at a round table that held about 9 other workers from various offices around town. All of them were female (I mention this only because in the field of medical billing/MA's the population is like 95/5 in favor of the fairer gender). Now of course every single female was interested in why I was not eating. How could I not want to enjoy the deliciousness of free...catered...italian...food!!! Well, truth be told I again had a gut check and realized I wasn't the slightest bit hungry. What was more annoying was having to explain myself to 9 other women. Especially because two of those 9 women had said they had gone on juice fasts and that they didn't work!!! That they felt no better afterward and that although they did loose some weight initially that they gained it back and more after they stopped fasting.

Needless to say I really didn't want to get into it with these women....but women love to talk about diets (it's true ladies, right?). So I politely declined to explain myself and only asserted that I wasn't really all that hungry. None of them liked that very much and I detected some muffled snickers. Whatever.

I went home and hit the treadmill for an hour and felt much better. Thats about it for day 5. Oh, I haven't been that "regular" so I think I'm going to do another Salt Water Flush this weekend. I would do one during the week but I'm a little uncomfortable about having to deal with the results in the work-place if you know what I mean.

Also, I read on the net yesterday that people reccommend that you not make the same juice all the time. Something about allergies developing??? I've really only been sticking to two, though. The carrot, beet, spinich, apple & the apple and grape (of course with some parsley, ginger and cucumber thrown in. Does anyone have any opinion on this issue???

Till Tommorow,
Bearded One

PS This morning the wife tells me she wants to start Atkins again :( Oy vey
