Hello. I just barely registered with this forum, and found a question I can answer! Story very short: I am now associated with a 52 year old gentleman who contracted a terminal disease at age 15 (Lupus). He struggled with diet to age 41 at which time after 10 years of pure vegan diet with improvements in the beginning, still left him ready to die with severe symptoms of Lupus and the worst Sinusitis imaginable (at age 41). He could find no help anywhere, so on a whim, since he had recently moved into a citrus grove area, he decided to eat only citrus. He finished all 14 of his citrus tree's fruit in about 6 months, and ended up about 85% cured!! After that, he experimented and studied until finding the "perfect" diet for which there seems to be no exact information about anywhere. The diet is based on entirely eliminating non-amino acid protein foods. In other words, eat the type of protein (not the type of foods) eaten by Elephants, Giraffes, etc. in the wild. Some sprouted breads such as the orange wrapper Ezekiel fit into this diet well as you will read more about below.
As it turns out, most foods in our diet have in them whole-protein molecules. These whole-proteins are very complex and very large. Our bodies cannot use protein unless it is in the amino acid form. So to use the amino acids in whole protein, our digestive system has to perform a sort of slave labor on them by releasing numerous enzymes, acids, and the like to try to break them down. By doing so, all kinds of putrifications and acids and byproducts and poisons are created which build up in the body and wreak havoc on our whole system over time. Additionally, the digestive process never finishes but maybe 5% (maybe more) of the protein conversion to amino acids. Hence you end up with 90% plus proteins in your body that have not been broken down which the body cannot use. Result: You may be eating lots of protein, but you are getting relatively little of it in the end. Amino acid protein foods, on the other hand, are easily used by the body to nearly 100% of what is eaten with relatively simple digestive routines.
The problem with this "NO whole-protein" diet is that it is so simple (restrictive) that few are willing to live by it. To get the body completely conditioned to it, it takes a period of time of 100% strictness until withdrawal pains and symptoms are over (yes, protein diets are addictive). It basically requires eating no meats, fish, etc; no eggs; no diary, cheese, yogurt, etc; and (and that's a big AND), NO NUTS, GRAINS, or SEEDS! Sounds drastic, but it works. At age 52 now, Tom is in the "picture" of health. From age 15 he averaged getting sick at least once each month until age 41. After his drastic diet change, he has never been sick since! Not once in 11 years! And that's amazing considering he hardly even has an immune system (his body let's him know very quickly if he ever deviates more than a meal or two off the diet).
Now, the good news: When you sprout a grain or seed, that very sophisticated process shatters all the protein molecules in the grain, and converts them into their amino acid components. So, with the Ezekiel bread and other similar breads, you are eating 100% amino acid protein which get nearly all used by the body. And, there is no allergic reaction since there are no whole-proteins causing body wrenching digestive processes. Carefully read the label, though. Many "sprouted grain" breads have gluten and non-sprouted grains in them - or seeds. I have only found 3 out of about 10 sprouted breads that fit the bill. The orange wrapper Ezekiel, and a clear wrapper raisin bread, and one other clear wrapper bread. The freshest of this type of breads as well as the cheapest I have found at Trader Joes ($2.09 per loaf).
One other important note: All diets, including this one, should include mostly water for beverage (about 1/2 of your weight in ounces
per day - see http://www.watercure.com),
and plenty of salt (need about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon per day).
I started on this diet at about age 55, have come down from 178 pounds
to 155 pounds (I am 5' 8" tall), have eliminated tiredness beyond normal sleep patterns, have eliminated allergies (water did most of that), and have not gotten sick now in about 3 years. And I am not living it perfectly yet - only about 66% of my diet. Tom's firm belief is that protein is the main cause of disease and early death (early meaning dying by about age 90 or 100).
