I read your Post and my niece has almost all the same symptoms as you have from the IUD as well. Please let me know what doctors you went to that believe it is the IUD causing the symptoms.
I live in Jacksonville, FL also. I have been of excellent health and only 33. I had the Mirena placed 6 weeks ago and 2 weeks after it was in I had a heart attack and triple bypass(with artery disection at my heart). I'm trying to link it to the iud, with not much help from the doctors. Upon insertion I had clogged pores. I had a baby on 3-28-06. The insertion was no problem. I have been consistently bleeding since insertion and I'm now anemic. I'm anxious to get it out. Please let me know if there is anything you have found that we can do.
I just noticed you had replied to my message. My husband must of read and so I never noticed. You say you live in Jacksonville? I did contact that attorney the next day after reading this forum, but I have not heard anything. They still have no cause for my heart attack and aortic artery dissection. A week after reading this forum my primary said I was anemic. I then demanded from my ob that the iud be removed. They tried to talk me into keeping it. It's been two weeks and I've lost 8 lbs. and immediately after removal I felt much better, no more aches. It was hard to tell though if my symtoms came from the iud or the open heart surgery. I have 3 girls too. One is almost 10, one is 20 months and one is 4 months. I'm definitely interested in meeting you and having some one to talk about the issues with. I would like to help give you some support to.
I can not believe there is some one out there who is feeling the exact same way I am feeling right now, there is only one diffrence I have had my IUD in about a year and a hafe but I can't afford to go to the doctor to have mine removed. I have had the insomnia, joint pain, back pain, no intrest in sex, threatned my husband with devorce several times, headaches, severe cramps, no period only 1 time right after I had it put in, weight gain, no energy at all, depression, anxiety and drama all the time in other words extremely bad mood swings. I am posting this message so maybe I can help someone and some one could help me thank you for taking the time to read this.
I was wondering if you have thought about another kind of b/c? I also have an iud and I am wanting to stay away from hormonal b/c because of health problems but I'm latex allergic...do you have any suggestions? I have post on this page that have my side affects in them. I know what you mean about not having the money to get it removed too! I won't have the money until September went my job starts. It kinda makes you feel stuck with it doesn't it? Plus my hubby isn't really supporting the idea of removal,he doesn't want anymore kids for a few years. I would like to wait a while too, I just don't want to do anything permanent for now,I'm only 23. Know what I mean? and he really doesn't think that my iud is what in causing my mood swings. He believes the doctor about the low hormon thing and almost no side effects! I wish he had a uterus for a day with an iud stuck in the middle of it, I think he would be singing a different tune!!:)
i always wonder why women have to be the ones to bother about birth control. let men have their share in this too! they won't let themselves get harmed by any form of synthetic drug but they can do things also. women jump too easily into the role of being the oly one responsible. i wonder why.......
i was very happy to learn that the first writer found help from? (dr hotze and dr randolph?). they do fantastic work treating women with natural bioidentical hormones and i would advise everybody with problems of this kind to make an appointment with them. i was greatly helped by using natural progesteron cream. they might also have the answer for you about how to avoid pregnancy in a responsible and safe way.
I would also like to file a lawsuit agianst Mirena. I actually called a lawyer about this and he said that I would need other women with the same idea to file a lawsuit. I recently became pregnant while using mirena and endedup having an epctopic pregnancy, which meant I lost the baby and I also lost a falopian tube. I am reading everyone's comments on the birth control about the odd side effects of this drug and I just thought that maybe it was having a new baby in the house or stress but all of these symptoms that people describe having I have had too. The tiredness, lack of sex drive, vaginal dryness, mood swings, slight depression, and cramping. Unlike others I actually did not have a period while using the birthcontrol. I actually went to a doctor to make sure that It was normal for me not to have a period and they told me not to worry. So when I started bleeding out of the blue one day I assumed that I was finally getting a period, boy was I wrong. I went to the doctor to have the birthcontrol checked after having it for only a year and the doctor could not find the IUD. It had gotten lost in my uterus, and to top it off I was also pregnant. The pregnancy ended up being in my falopian tube and it was getting ready to burst. If I had waited only a few more days or hours to have this checked I could have died. Only now am I hearing on commercials for the Mirena birth control that it is not for women with a history of epctopic pregnancy. Well I didn't have a history of eptopic pregnancy before using this birthcontrol, but now I do, and I have the medical bills to prove it. All I want is for them to pay my bills and to take this think off of the market, because apparently they did not do enough research on this thing.
Oh my goodness.. I thought I was alone in all of this and I have always been suspicioius of my MIUD. I take Armour Thyroid and was just recently diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I have been very moody and developed a confrontational temper. Funny how came across this because I was wondering if my MIUD and thyroid meds would interact well. I am driving everyone crazy in my house and most of all I am driving myself crazy. I guess its time to talk to the doctor about all of this. Thank you for the wake up call.
I know EXACTLY how you feel, I thought the same thing. Mirena IUD is not telling all the symptoms and complications that come with this thing. I had insominia, depression, horrible mood swings, severe back pain, and tons of other things. I told my doctor and she denied that it was the Mirena IUD which was a bunch of crap. I got the thing removed and I can sleep just fine now...I would love to help you or be involved in a class action suit. This product needs to be off the market, or more research needs to be done...they at least need to list the REAL side effects and not lie about them...
I'm with you on the law suit sista!! Sorry, but I'm pissed! My niece called me crying the other day because her hands were tingling and she had double vision. She is scheduled for an MRI and already saw an eye doctor and had a CAT scan. She is terrified as they are giving her the impression that she has MS. Funny how when I looked up Mirena, most of the women on the board are being diagnosed as such also.
I told my niece, before reading this board, that you have to know your own body, and do some self-diagnosis, ie., anything new in my body, any new medications, etc.. She said she's had the IUD in for a year, what would make it act up now? I suggested that the U.S. doesn't study enough for new meds or devices, they probably don't know or are hiding it to promote the thing!
As for your symptoms, sounds like it did send you into peri-menopause. Try estrogen instead of progesterone for the insomnia. I am in the midst of menopause at 48 and have been going through it for about 5 years now. Started with the hot flashes, etc., especially the weight gain! My doc just cut my estrogen in half and I'm having trouble sleeping again. So, I know what your going through.
Thanks for the post, and good luck to you!
I know this was written 2 years ago but I thought I would try anyways. I have had my Mirena IUD in since 2005 and I am now 24. I am having a lot of the same symtoms and I have spent a lot of money on doctors and meds and ct and mri scans. This all started out of nowhere. I am on antidepressants, anxiety meds, trazadone, and tylenol. My husband and I were talking and we think that it is related to my problems. After reading this today I am absolutly posative it is the problem. I am going to have it removed today. I wonder how many other people are having this problem. I can't work any more becuase my body is out of whack.
I'm 25 and had mirena put in back in March at first there wasnt any bad signs but as the months went on my moods started to realy spin out of control. Like being 2 years old again, I'd cry at the drop of a hat. Lately things are even worse tired all the time but cant sleep lose of apeitte crying every day feels like the world as we know it is ending im getting this weird tinglin hot sensation all the time the way like 40 year woman desribe hot flashes.
I totally agree about a lawsuit. I had mine removed in March of 2008, after 2 years. Before that I had very similiar symptoms, that have not gone away yet.
The main thing is the each of us has different chemical balance. They constantly wonder what the reason is that more women have migraines than men, because of hormones. The female hormones are greatly underestimated.
I've had horrible migraines for 12 years, my only daughter is also 12 and long story short tried a lot and been to a lot of doctors. Its only recently that I've made the connection between the hormones and the migraines. For you it probably put your hormones over the top with the progesterone. For me I've actually recently got the IUD because I've had the same symptoms you've mention in great detail enough to consider disability. I got the IUD to try and help kill off my cycle. If it doesn't work I'll move onto an endocrinologist as I've figured out I most likely have PMDD and may just need to have them pull everything out. I don't think you can sue them for this IUD. There are warnings and there is no way for them to know your chemical balance and how the IUD would have worked with that. It just sucks to have ovaries basically.
