I've got a recceeding gum line that's gotten to the point where my teeth may be starting to loosen. I know that it is caused by bacteria and I was wondering if oil pulling not only stops the recceding, but also help the gums grow back so my teeth can firm up. Has anyone used oil pulling for this problem and what kind of results should I expect (ie, how often to pull, how soon to see/feel improvement)?
According to http://www.mamaherb.com/,
you can also effectively treat receeding gums lines by using things like baking soda, sesame oil and hyrogen peroxide. The same question applis to this. For anyone who's tried these methods, how do they work?
I've been using a variety of herbal mouthwashes, as well as salt water multiple times a day, and I just started pulling with coconut oil and I'm curious what I need to do and how much of it I need to do to get my mouth and teeth healthy. Also, is there such a thing as too much?
Has anyone had success with any of these measures?
Do gums regrow just by killing the bacteria or is there some nutritional aspect that needs to be addressed for this? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
In the short term. I've been OPing for a little over a month. After about two weeks I noticed my gums had receeded slightly. I attribute this to the aspect that my gums were slightly swollen from the bacteria. As the bacteria left from the OPing, the slight swelling went away. This in effect could be viewed as gum recession. Since that time (the past 3 weeks) there has been no further "recession". However, my gums are a much healthier pink, and my teeth are much firmer. How firm? I almost feel I could open Corona Beer bottles with my teeth :).
I would read through the site Squarecurls posted below (I think it is http://www.saveyourteeth.com)
which is chock full of great information on how to brush, what to use, etc. He discusses using a really soft toothbrush with a sea-salt/baking soda paste (the liquid is hydrogen peroxide -- known as H202 around here, which took me forever to figure out! -- OR colloidial silver if you have Amalgam fillings), which you will push up in between the gums and teeth to get the bacteria that lives in there. (And causes the recession/periodintal disease/problems.) Anyway -- read through it -- there is great stuff there and on this forum we have paid a lot of attention to tooth and mouth health in general, and I loved reading such a sensible and easy set of instructions on how to make one's mouth so much healthier!
OP will help get your gums healthy and back in shape. You might want to add some oil of oregano to your coconut oil or sesame oil (or both -- I love using them both at once, and if you store them together the coconut doesn't fully harden so it's easier to use).
When I started oil pulling some of the earliest things I noticed in my mouth were a) no more gums bleeding -- a good sign that they are getting healthier -- and b) it was *really* difficult for me to get floss between some of my teeth -- they really got firmer in their places.
Hope you start to see improvement -- I know some people have reported regrowth, and you might do a search for that. At the very least you will stop a downhill slide in its tracks with the OP.
That link says that you shouldn't use H2O2 if you have amalgams. Why is this? Is it bad to rinse with H2O2 too if you have amalgams?
I'm specifically looking for something to regrow gums, but there's so much information out there I don't know what to trust and I'm a little freaked out so I'm not in the best state of mind to make decisions like that. Has anyone had a similar problem find a solution they'd like to share with me?
There's a post from a few months ago about someone who saw pretty quick regrowth of gums after beginning OP. (That whole thread is interesting, too.) I searched within this forum "gum regrowth" and several old posts came up.
I think the H202 releases mercury when it touches the Amalgam fillings so you don't want to use it. Of course, that site also says that mercury vaporizes at room temperature, so I took that to mean what I have also read before -- that it's always being released in our hot mouths, when we chew food, etc. -- but I would still stay away from H202.
I know it's overwhelming at the start but if you develop a practice of OP and doing the gum stimulation and tooth care that Dr. Behm describes, you will feel better. First, you will be taking action and "right thinking follows right action" -- i.e. worrying about it won't make you feel better, but doing something will. Second, both OP and the practices described on that site are proven to help mouth health. Both are pretty simple and straightforward and I would imagine you will see some benefits fairly soon. Can you make a deal with yourself to suspend worry and judgment for a couple of weeks and just make the effort and trust the process?
Thank you. I already have been using OP for a few days now as well as using a calendula mouth rinse, salt water and colloidal silver. Dr. Behm's technique uses common enough ingredients that I've started that as well. I figure with a combination of everything, progress will be made. It took a couple days for the freak-out to subside, but I'm on track now.
