I have printed out the Commonwealth of Virginia's religious exemption form for my daughters, who will be attending a pre-school program in the fall. Does anyone have experience with private preschools and their vaccination requirements? Do private schools usually follow the state health policy?
Ugh, so stressful! Why am I so afraid to call the school and just say we don't vaccinate...undoubtedly, because of all of the negative reactions I have gotten from doctors in the past!
Laura,
Are you a member of the yahoo vaccine group run by Sheri Naken? There are a ton of parents from across the U.S. who have experience with getting their unvaxed child into different schools. I wrote an exemption for my daughter(she was partially vaxed though- but they didn't know it at the time and it was a public school) and gave it to the school nurse in May before the start of school. I was never questioned.
Thanks...I hope you are well! I have not "seen" you around in a while -- how are things?
I guess my question is, Do state laws (i.e. religious exemption) apply to private schools? I mean, I know they can disregard state laws on what kind of curriculum to offer -- i.e. that state is required to provide via public schools a certain body of info, private schools aren't bound by that -- but it seems to me that a private pre-school would not have the ability to ignore religious exemption, which we have here in Virginia.
I think I will just submit the forms instead of the vaccination sheet and trust that it will work out OK. We are in a very liberal college town and surely they have seen this before!
I am going to check out the Yahoo group now -- thanks so much for your help.
Laura-
Have you checked out this site below, it's supposed to have each state's exemption rules. You don't know how the school will react until you talk to someone or turn it your form. Good luck!
