Coughing; I have been coughing for 5+ years, taking many test from Bravo pH, Allergy, to drug therapy for GERD, Acid Reflux, Allergy pills, Acupuncture, herbal teas and herbal pills, Food elimination to only raw food (i.e. vegan style), you name it I did it and probably did it twice. Nasal rinse with Nettie pot. Sprays of all sorts, been there done that.
5 years later CT Scan of sinus; Deviated Septum. Now what, the doctors are saying as long as you can breath you don't need surgery. Is this what I need to cure this cough and not keep pacifying
PROBLEM: Cough through out the day for at least 1 hour per episode. Cough ONLY in the up right position. NEVER cough laying down.
I've been managing my health since all doctors have told me there is nothing more I can do for you but prescribe drugs (that do not help). Allerx helped but 5 years of taking it, 1.5 doses to now 2 does at once does't help any longer. Now another prescribe drug PLUS over the counter drying agent and that doesn't keep me from coughing. No relief except when I lay down. But as soon as I stand up, cough until I have a headache, throw up or almost faint. Please anyone I have new HMO and want to tell the ENT what to do since no past ENT, etc knows what to do.
Could the cough be from sinus drainage going into your lungs? That would explain it only being when you stand up. Worse in the a.m., or after you've been laying down? I'd look into asthma too. - JM
I've checked for Asthma by having several Pulmonary function tests with different doctors which I hate doing it, it's not fun. But all the test has been negative. I had every test under the sun even a bronchoscopy. So I guess I am running out of options or even hope.
This is all too familiar. I had a deviated septum. This caused me to have sinus infections for decades. The asthma would come and go. I went to an allergist/asthma doc once. He kicked me out of office after I came out negative for everything. Sure enough a few weeks later I was at the general practitioners for my latest round of antibiotics. He did the test and I definitely had it. I can tell after a cold or bronchitis or sinus surgery (from the post surgical drainage) it acts up. In between illnesses it's undetectable. The pulmonary specialist said it will pretty much go away when all this sinus crap is squared away.
Oh yeah, and a lot of coughing in the morning as the stuff oozes down into the the poor irritated lungs.
I've taken multiple test numerous times and have taken asthmas tests many times, cause you know doctors, everytime you see a new one they want to do one and no, I do not have asthma, but they give me the inhaler anyway, so let's inhale that thing so I can cough more.. thanks
