Chelation therapy became a popular "alternative" treatment after EDTA was found effective in chelating and removing toxic metals from the blood, and some scientists postulated that hardened arteries could be softened if the calcium in their walls was removed. The first indication that EDTA treatment might benefit patients with atherosclerosis came from Clarke, Clarke, and Mosher, who, in 1956, reported that patients with occlusive peripheral vascular disease said they felt better after treatment with EDTA.
Carnosine, as a dietary supplement, seems to have all the same chelating properties as EDTA, and it offers a possibility for an inexpensive oral chelation therapy.
hhmm...well, the LEF article doesn't mention carnosine chelating anything. the pdf file does claim carnosine can chelate as well as EDTA, but doesn't give any real evidence of why they believe it. they reference a study called "miller o'dowd 2000" but i cant find that study anywhere on the web.
carnosine is a great supplement to take, but until i see actual evidence its a mercury chelator i will have to assume it is not.
In the context of vaccination chelation with carnosine may be crucial, as it removes organic mercury (thiomersal or thimerosal) from a child. Organic mercury is present in most vaccines as an antimicrobic preservative, although it since the 1930´s has been recognised as a toxic substance affecting the central nervous system. In my opinion every vaccinated child and adult should take carnosine as a precaution in order to remove thiomersal from the body as soon as possible.
Carnosine helps to combat cellular damage by helping the body to get rid of pro-oxidative metals such as copper and zinc. The amino acid also helps rid the body of toxic heavy metals like lead, mercury, and nickel.
Neomi you do know that chelating with your fillings still in your mouth is just pulling the mercury from your fillings and re-distributing around your body ie in the brain ?
Yes, I do knw that and I went to the dentist while back and I dont have mercury fillings but a root canal which im not sure if thats the same thing.....
In addition carnosine helps cleanse the blood and brain as well.
HOW CARNOSINE PROTECTS AGAINST BRAIN DEGENERATION*
The brain's rich supply of oxygen, glucose, membrane lipids and metals may explain why it is also richly endowed with carnosine. Carnosine suppresses oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, pathological protein-sugar interactions and copper-zinc toxicity. Moreover, carnosine's ability to forestall cellular senescence may help sustain the long lives of neurons, which do not divide to form new cells.
A major source of oxidative damage and cellular dysfunction in the brain is the oxidation of lipids in the membranes of brain cells.* This generates highly toxic byproducts that damage proteins and inhibit the synthesis of protein and DNA. Lipid peroxidation is particularly significant in Alzheimer's disease, where it is most prominent in the vicinity of senile plaques.** Carnosine dramatically reduces the levels of lipid peroxidation products.
When mice were stressed with electric shocks for two hours, significant increases in lipid peroxidation products in the brain and blood were observed, with decreased antioxidant activity levels.*** However, mice treated with carnosine before the shocks showed opposite effects. After the same series of shocks, their brain and blood lipid peroxidation product levels were more than 85% lower than in the untreated mice. Brain SOD antioxidant activity was six times higher in the carnosine fed mice compared to the untreated mice. When stress was induced, it caused a depression in levels of essential membrane phospholipids by 9% while carnosine treatment actually raised them by 26%. Carnosine also protected against a step in the glycation process, protected cells from damage by lipid peroxidation toxins and increased the "flowability" of cell membranes.
In Alzheimer's disease, lipid peroxidation toxins are thought to interfere with critical membrane proteins involved in cellular signaling and in transporting ions, glucose and glutamate. Carnosine appears to protect against many of the pathologies that have been identified in the Alzheimer's disease process.
again, i think carnosine is an excellent supplement to take and has many benefits. however i have not seen any evidence it chelates mercury from the body. the only page you link which makes this claim simply makes the claim with no evidence to back it up. so, its possible carnosine is a chelator, and if it works to make you feel better then great. but i still cant say i am convinced it removes mercury from the body.
Carnosine chelates ORGANIC mercury and dental amalagens are linked to organic mercury. Carnosine could be possibly for chelating copper and zinc but it is linked to ALA. It also chelates other important heavy metals like LEAD which some find hard to get rid of of. I guess the beauty of carnosine is that it recovers the body during the chelatin process by cleaning the blood, kidney and liver. I read some stories about chelatin problems because some people chelate with clogged organs (especially the blood and liver) In my defense, I use carnosine with Lugols which is my "mercury" chelator. I read in another mercury forum that if you chelate with especially vitaminB6/Molybednum
makes up DMSA.
"you can add DMSA or succinic acid to this to maximize the acetaldehyde detox, but this is untested for my part. So yes, I consider B5 + molybdenum as a replacement for DMSA, because DMSA is actually an acetaldehyde detoxer too. The most potent acetaldehyde detoxers that I know use succinic acid in some form (remember DMSA = dimercapto succinic acid), however, the natural way of supporting acetaldehyde detox is B5/pantethine/molybdenum, this is also more liver friendly than using DMSA, and seems to be effective enough too, at least for me."
thanks for the link, it has a lot of good info in there. i am still not convinced carnosine is a chelator, but it does seem like it should be a part of a mercury detox program as it will help rebuild the damage done by mercury.
good info in that link about B5, mercury and adrenals.
Your welcome Quinta. Yes the main reason for the carnosine is to heal my leaky gut but I just recently read that if your LOW in Taurine it can cause leaky gut and candida.
Hmmmmm
WHAT IS TAURINE? I know it helps with liver right?
Tuarine is an amino acid and a metabolite of methionine. i have used the supplement magnesium taurate and really like it. its magnesium molecularly bound to taurine. best brand is 'cardiovascular research ltd' which you can get on amazon. they also have potassium magnesium taurate.
more info on taurine. its a critical part of one important bile acid the liver produces.
btw, have you looked into methyl donors and methylation? check out the supplement TMG, you might find that interesting. if you are dealing with mercury issues, then methyl donors are critical. i am only now learning about it so i am no expert, but its obviously important.
Hey i said i was leaving the Candida Forum not curezone.. as theres alot of useful information on here!
from a little bit of reading i dont think root canals contain mercury but i did read this ;
"Allowing your dentist to put mercury in your mouth is the worst thing you can allow him to do. Allowing him to do a root canal is the second worst thing you can allow him to do. The book Root Canal Cover-up by Dr. George Meinig, D.D.S., F.A.C.D., reveals that the root canal procedure traps bacteria in the dentin tubules. These bacteria proliferate and produce toxins that can travel all over the body lowering the body's immune system and causing serious health problems. "
Also if you have no fillings anymore i seriously reccommened you follow any cutlers protocol, of DMSA, and maybe ALA/ Information can be found at http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/Andy_dose_sched.html
if you dont fancy buying his book.
As for MMS and Iodine chelating i have done research and asked alot advice on this and its comes down to Iodine can inevitably kill your good bacteria if taken oraly. and i quote "neither of these chelate Hg, this is a common misconception."
Stranges thing is happening. Ive been on zinc carnosine for a couple weeks and I feel my iris is a bit lighter/brighter. I dont know if its the Lugols OR the chelating.
I have brown eyes and redtone skin complexion. (50% Jamaican 50% Dominican)
I don't know if it pulls mercury, but definitely know it pulls something(metal) out. When I started it on your advice Neomi, I had that old familiar overwhelmed with yeast reaction. Which to me means heavy metals in my system. I have the same reaction with cilantro and dmsa. I get very thrush-y? and feel just yucky slimey. Oh yeah, I wheeze also. Also my sweat smells like metal. I don't know for a fact that's what all this means, but strange how all the feelings and symptoms are the same as when I was doing IV EDTA chelation. Kinda like experience being the best teacher here I suppose. HTH
Yes, it was effective. The urine before and after the chelation showed dramatic improvement. I do feel like I stopped it prematurely though, because I wasn't as informed then as I am now, so I thought what I was experiencing was a bad thing. For example, worsening of candida symptoms, muscle twitching and aches, crazy "biting" type sensations, aching in my kidneys(which tested ok). I now believe these were just what one would feel while metals are being moved out. I had all my mercury removed from my mouth prior to having chelation, so the remaining in my body was just being pulled out I suppose. I DO believe it taxed the ol'adrenals though. So the doc put me on a bit of cortef, which I still have to resort to now and again when detoxing. I still don't know enough!! But I do know, to get to the good, one usually has to go through the bad first(at least that's been my experience).
Thanks that you followed somewhat my advice bodgy! How are things lookin thus far?
I'm slowly developing my healing process but its a long journey due to the damage I caused my immune system. (poor thing) But I do feel better and leading to victory.
