This might sound really strange
but for the last 4 days it feels like my heart is fluttering, IF it IS my heart, it makes it feel like a little fishy is flipping around right at the base of my throat, like the pressure of my blood is being squeezed in spasms through this area, and this causes me to cough, as if the air is being pushed out of me. Does this sound like anything anyone here has heard of? Being that it's been over the Christmas holidays and my family doctor's clinic has been closed, I didn't want to waste hours waiting in the hospital ER when it may be nothing. I am going to the doc Monday to have this checked out but I was hoping maybe someone here might be able give me a clue as to what this could be. Thanks. :)
I have been experiencing this exact same thing and no one has been able to tell me what it is. When I was pregnant I would experience heart racing and my OB had me wear a holter monitor and get an EKG which both showed my hear to be normal. She said that some people get pregnancy induced tachycardia due to the strain pregnancy has on your body, but she said it was nothing to worry about. It went away after I had my son, but now I am experiencing a weird flutter in my heart/lung area, almost like my heart is out of sync and it's accompanied by a quivery/hazy feeling at the base of my neck/throat that forces me to have a bronchial sounding cough. As soon as the weird feeling goes away, so does the cough! What can this be?
kindredspirit -If you find anything out from your Dr., can you let me know? Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback. At least with someone else having the same symptoms I know I'm not imagining it.
The doctor said it sounded like I had something caught in my throat and sent me for a chest X-ray, despite my arguing that there was nothing stuck in my throat. I haven't got the resuts back yet but I seriously doubt they'll find anything lodged in my throat. They'll just get a better look at my breast tumor, which I was none too happy about irradiating with an X-ray! >:S I'll be seeing another doctor about this within the week & if I find anything out I'll come back here & post about it. And if you find anything out, let me know too, ok? :)
Oh man, I can sympathize with Dr.'s not really hearing you! I am sorry they sent you for an x-ray - if our symptoms are the same (and they do sound that way), I would say an x-ray to see if something is stuck in your throat is a waste of time. For me, it feels as if it is happening in my esophagus/lung area - not my throat - and, it doesn't feel like anything is stuck there - it almost feels like a spasm.
Anyways, I appreciate the response to my post and I hope you get somewhere with your Dr.! Look forward to hearing from you and I will be in touch if I find anything out as well.
Over the past month I have had this fluttering or really it feels like bubbling right in the middle of my chest. It is right under my sternum between my breasts along my esophogus I guess. Like the fish flopping you mentioned. It started happening once in a while late at night while I was laying down and it would only happen once quickly, like a blub, blub, blub, and go away (did you feel like this?). Didn't think it was my heart, cause isn't the heart kind of off to your left a bit? Now it is happening at any time of day, no more than once a day if that.
I keep thinking it will go away but I guess I should go see a doctor. I just can't think of what it would be. It is not my stomach and doesn't feel like heartburn or my heart. Doesn't hurt, doesn't race my heart or cause any discomfort. Just a very wierd feeling. I had a full physical last year and all my bloodwork was normal. I'm 38.
Well this is all pretty odd I think. I have received emails from others who have also just recently started having this symptom. You don't suppose we're subjects of some covert experiment or maybe a terrorist attack do you? ':) Someone just wrote me suggesting it might be a migrating parasite, anyone else ever consider that? Sounds weird but I won't discredit anything. I've learned some pretty strange things about health and related issues over the last few years, anything's possible. My X-ray, by the way, came back clear, as I knew it would. The fluttering (no not a blub blub blub, more like a flippy flippy flip flip, really fast) seems to subside when I increase my water intake and even moreso when I take my vitamin C powder.
My eating was poor until about 2 months ago.
I started working with a personal trainer 3 days a
week, added in cardio and have been eating very well.
I've lost 18 pounds but the fish flopping episodes
have become more frequent and at any given time of the
day which is even weirder. The episodes are VERY
brief, a couple of seconds. No anxiety follows or
anything. Just this blop, blop, flip, flop feeling.
I hadn't thought of something maybe being stuck in my
esophagus until one of the earlier posts mentioned it.
But I take these monster vitamins everyday and if
there was some kind of blockage I would think it
would be difficult for me to swallow. I have never
heard of worms or worms being in the esophagus or stomach, but
you have huh?
I am not sure about this but I have just started having this problem again. I use to have it but it went away when I lost some weight and restricted my carbs. Now I am eating more of that crap and have gained about 15 pounds back. This is starting again, so I feel like it has something to do with weight and intake. I also think it has something to do with my thyroid. If anyone has any thoughts on this please post them
