Haha It sounds so familiar with my case as well I too was told it was my Gall Bladder cause I was getting bad pains in my lower sides and back, Had my Gall Bladder Removed and 4 Months later had the exact same pains had to go to emergency and they told me I had kidney stone so I had another Operation and they got the stone out (OUCHHHHHH) and Ive had no pain ever since. So did the surgeon guess that it was my Gall bladder? I now have bad side effects like Bloating in my stomach, Bad smelling Diarehha and Yellow oily Bile leaking out of my anus constantly! Is this bile Problem I have classified as Bile duct Diarehha does anyone know and how is it caused?

Problems with diarrhea after gallbladder removal are common. I had IBS-D before having my gallbladder removed and after the surgery, it got even worse. Finally---after years of telling my doctor about this---she prescribed Cholestyramine (generic name: Prevalite). What a difference it makes! Also, try eating 2 teaspoons of flaked coconut each day. I read about this before I got the Prevalite and was quite surprised that it helped!
Just want to pass on something that has really helped me control the bile salt diarrhea. I have suffered terribly from this problem since having my gallbladder removed over two years ago. I had tried various fiber type solutions (psyllium, etal) with poor-moderate results. About three months ago I began taking Calcium Citrate supplements. The results were incredible. I have near normal bowel function as long as I take the supplements every day. The dosage that I have found works for me is 900 mg (3 tablets) twice a day. I have tried to back down from this dosage but have found this is the minimum dosage for the desired results. I'm sure the dosage levels will vary between different people. Hope this helps for you too.
That is great info! I'm just curious about the dosage. Are you male or female and aprox. weight?? I just had mine taken out last week and already experiencing urgency. Although, I already had that from my Crohns from time to time.
I HAD MY GALLBLADDER OUT ABOUT 1 YEAR NOW. AND I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. YOU CAN'T EAT NOTHING WITHOUT GETTING SERIOUS STOMACHE CRAMPS AND I MEAN BAD. SO YOU CAN'T JUST GO TO A PICNIC AND EAT WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS EATING UNLESS YOU ARE READY TO GO TO THE BATHROOM OR WANT A BAD STOMACHE ACHE..THAT HAS BEEN MY BIGGEST PROBLEM AND I AM DIETING AND I HAVE BEEN ON 2 PILLS THE DOCTOR GAVE ME FOR A DIET AND BOTH OF THEM GAVE ME SEVERE STOMACHE CRAMPS. SO IF THERE IS A WAY TO KEEP YOUR GALLBLADDER PLEASE DO IT!!!!!!!!!
I had my gall bladder removed laparoscopically in June and recovered with no complications. Ten days ago I got terrible upper right abdominal pain, had testing and all liver functions and ultrasound are fine. I am scheduled for endoscopic ultrasound on Monday to see if a stone is neverthless wandering around and causing trouble as the pain is not going away but getting worse. No jaundice. I have the runs after eating which I didn't have after surgery or until a week ago. My question refers to doing a Liver Flush now after I don't have a gall bladder. I understand that taking apple juice will make the stones softer because of the malic acid, and I understand that taking Epsom Salts which are magnesium sulfate will act as a muscle relaxant and stop spasms of the bile ducts therefore widening them. I DO NOT understand why it will help to take a cup of oil, mixed with anything for taste, as the purpose of the oil is to make your gall bladder contract in order to push out the stones but I do not have a gall bladder any more! Does oil make the LIVER contract? I never heard of it doing anything like that. And if not, why take the oil part at all? I'm quite afraid to do it even though I have read every message on this site today from the beginning of time, and have read all about the liver, gall bladder etc. cleanse. I can't understand two things and am in need of an answer before making a decision about what to do:
1) what good is the oil if I don't have a gall bladder?
2) What are the dangers of getting a stone stuck in a bile duct (now I assume it is just "floating around" and not stuck as I don't have any raised bilirubin) as a result of the liver flush? Will it necessitate ERCP which is what I am told they will do ultimately if the endoscopic ultrasound finds that I have stone floating around in the bile ducts that are causing pain?
3) I was told by my doctors that the stones are not formed in the liver but in the bile ducts and that if i have any stones now they are "leftovers" from the surgery that they didn't catch because it was endoscopic surgery, and that they were in my bile ducts all the time. Is this true? If it is, then why do patients including some listed on this list, get stones years after surgery and even after having ERCP to take out their "leftover stones"? Here I have a difference of opinion between the doctors and what I read on this list.
4) When I read the "experts answer" questions refuting people like Dr. Weil who don't believe in the flush and claim it is not stones coming out etc, their answers are not convincing. Their answers are just "try it and see". I am told that for people with stones that can get stuck the flush is dangerous.
5) When I had acupuncture a few years ago before developing gall stones the practitioner did a liver cleanse as a result of which I developed great pain but no tests showed anything. May have been small stones that passed or gravel. Three years ago I had another acupuncturist work on my sinuses and without telling me he did a liver slush and I was in terrible pain and then the ultrasound showed that I had developed gallstones. I know it was from that as I had an ultrasound three months previous and it was clean. The stones in the gall bladder became bigger and more numerous and painful and ultimately I had to have it out. But at the time the "liver cleanse" only hurt me and moved the stones into my gall bladder or made them form or whatever, it diedn't hlep, I ended up with stones that didn't pass with another of his acupuncture treatments and then I had to have surgery. In other words, maybe my body is not a good candidate for liver flushing as all I have had from it is trouble. But I really am scared at the thought of ERCP, even once, and certainly terrified of having to have it over and over again, I am only 44.
So my big question is, would it be worth drinking the malic acid and taking the epsom salts and trying something else to get the stones to move? What do you suggest.
Thanks for an answer, I am really scared and need an answer fast to make decisions.

My life will never be the same as it was before having my gall bladder removed, and I wish I'd known before what I know now. My doctor assured me
that the gall bladder is just an unnecessary "storage tank" and that my life would be the same without. I wonder how he'd like having to live
his life close to a commode. I used to love going on long hikes, camping, swimming at the lake, etc. Try doing those things without a gall bladder.
I am very concerned that the amount of undigested food I pass will eventually lead to nutritional deficiencies and other complications. I worry about the
dehydration from chronic diarreah, and I know I'm at a much higher risk now for colon cancer. My grandmother died in her late 60s from colon cancer, and she had
a cholecystectomy in her 30s. Without that NECESSARY "storage tank," bile is continually leaking into the small intestine where it causes diarreah and can lead to
colon cancer. My grandmother and my mother both lived for years with chronic diarreah, and now I do as well. It makes me sick to know that this could have
been avoided.
Please read these links, and do whatever you can to avoid having your gall bladder removed if you're suffering from gall bladder attacks. Cut way back on the spicey and fatty
foods, and take 2 Tbls. of finely ground flax seeds in the morning and at night with juice, yogurt, or something. Drink hot water with the juice from a lemon before eating in the morning.
This alone helps to break down bile acids. Drink pure, ORGANIC apple cider. Or do any of the suggested flushes. Magnesium can also stop the muscle spasms, and peppermint tea
acts as an anti-spasmotic as well. I even read where some doctors are using aspirin (white willow bark is the original aspirin) to break up the stones, and sound waves have been used as well.
Here are a few helpful links. I want to help others avoid the mistakes I've made. Be sure to get plenty of fiber (fruits, veggies, flax seeds, beans, nuts, etc.).
According to Dr. Eldon Shaffer, Chairman, Department of Medicine University of Calgary, in May 1991 Diagnosis, if the severe pain lasts for more than 12 to 17 hours, or is accompanied by fever and chills, you may have developed inflammation of the gallbladder (known as acute cholecystitis) or inflammation of the pancreas (known as acute pancreatitis). This means you should go to the emergency right away, and be prepared to be admitted into the hospital.
With acute cholecystis, what happens is that trapped bile irritates and inflames the gallbladder wall. Seventy-five percent of the time the acute inflammation subsides with medical treatment alone. Of those 75 percent, 25 percent will have a reoccurrence within one year and 60 percent within six years.
The other 25 percent will develop serious complications necessitating immediate surgery. Surgery becomes necessary when the gallbladder becomes infected and full of pus, or when a gallstone causes the intestine to be blocked off or when the blood supply to the gallbladder is cut off. Occasionally, an infected gallbladder bursts, and the pus is localized to the area around the gallbladder. Rarely the pus spreads throughout the whole abdomen, which is a life threatening situation.
With acute pancreatitis, what happens is that the bile backs up into the pancreas where it causes it to become inflamed. This condition is usually treated with pain killers and intravenous fluids. If the pancreas is severely damaged, it can cause low blood pressure, heart failure, kidney failure, respiratory failure, accumulation of fluid in the abdomen and formation of cysts and abscesses in the damaged gland.
Serious complications of gallbladder disease such as jaundice (yellow skin and eyes) from the stone blocking the common bile duct, cholecystitis or pancreatitis occur in about one percent of people with gallstones and are just as common in those who have never had any prior abdominal pain. Once any of these complications has developed, surgery is absolutely necessary.
I FOUND OUT DURING PREGNANCY THAT I HAD GALLSTONES. I HAD A SEVERE ATTACK DURING MY THIRD MONTH OF PREGNANCY. I WAS ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND THE DR. PERFORMED AN ERCP. I STILL AM NOT SURE WHAT THAT REALLY WAS. I AM NOW POST PARDOM SIX WEEKS. I WENT TO A SURGEON LAST WEEK. I AM SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY ON OCT.29 I AM TERRIFIED. I HAVE OTHER CHILDREN AT HOME AS WELL. I HAD ALOT OF SLUDGE AND STONES BEFORE THE ERCP. I HAVE BEEN TOLD I NEED THE REMOVAL. I BECAME JAUNDICE PRIOR TO THE ERCP. SHOULD I HAVE THE SURGERY? WHO DO I CONTACT TO FIND OUT HOW GOOD MY SURGEON IS? WILL I HAVE PROBLEMS LATER FROM THIS ERCP? MY FATHER DIED OF COLON CANCER SO I AM ALREADY AT RISK FOR THAT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
It seems to me that everyone is different. While it seems everyone on here now suffers from chronic diarrhea, I had my gall bladder removed under emergency circumstances a little over a month ago, and my digestion has gotten better and now I no longer have to run to the bathroom. I have Crohns disease, that seems to have improved since my gall bladder removal. So, it seems hard to say if you will have the same problems everyone else here seems to be having. Personally, I seem to be fine without it, and can now eat foods that before would bother me. But maybe I'm an isolated case.
You don't have much time to do research since your surgery is tomorrow. I'm sorry I don't have better advice to give you now.
I had my gallbladder removed when I was 13. For years I had stomach pains that continually got worse. I went through tons of doctors & testing and no one could find anything wrong with me. My second trip to the emergency room - which was within a few months from my first visit - resulted in the finding of gallstones. They were discovered with an ultrasound. It was quite a surprise, as I had just had an ultrasound a few weeks prior. My parents and I discussed the surgery with my doctor to have my gallbladder removed. It was hard for us to come to a decision, as I was so young, and surgery was such a big thing. We were thinking about alternatives, but my doctor said it was a very simple procedure, and really didn't inform us of any risks, other then the normal anesthetic risks. Within that time, my mother was having the same pains, which sent her to the emergency room. They found that she had Gallstones quite easily. We both had our surgery on the same day. Since then I haven't had any sever, hour long - over night pains, but I am having other stomach pains. Since I have had my gallbladder removed, I have had strengthening stomach pains. Within the past 10 months they have worsened. I am continually having severe abdominal cramping, so bad sometimes it brings me to tears. I have had tons of testing since my gallbladder was removed, blood tests mostly, and no one can find anything wrong with me. About 8 months ago, I went to a gastreo.... specialist. Without doing any testing, he diagnosed me with IBS & set me up with a prescription of Dicyclomine (Generic for Bentyl)... I started taking the medication, but it didn't do much for me. I am now finding it hard for me to eat... Especially going out to eat. I start to settle in to enjoy my meal, and I have to run off to the bathroom. The pain and constant bowel movements are affecting my daily life. I am also getting pretty severe headaches, that can last overnight as well, and Tylenol or any aspirin have no affect on it (Usually once or twice a month). I find myself having a lot of lower back pain as well. I have no idea if this is related or not - but I feel more depressed & tired then I ever have. Is anyone else having similar symptoms? I noticed a lot of people having diahhrea, but are you guys having the other symptoms? Please let me know. I am only 19, and have been dealing with stomach pains for almost my entire life! Please post a response or email me at PunkGrl8080@hotmail.com with any suggestions, your story, etc... Thanks! I look forward to it.
I had my galbladder out when I was 16 years old. My father had his out at 23 and my mom had hers out at 27. I now have, and continue to have HIGH LIVER FUNCTIONS and right sided abdominal pain. I was told I was crazy for years because they "solved" my problem and I shouldn't have any more pain. When I was pregnant with our first child, I would wrench in pain! The pain seems to be VERY intermittent, and mostly seems to be just a "swollen" feeling on the right side.
Here are my two questions: Could stones be causeing this pain/full feeling? Could stones be causing my high liver functions?
I had my gb out 1 1/2 yrs ago. The surgeon told us that if the surgery is not done right and too much of the bile duct is left, over time it will begin functioning like a gall bladder again and may get stones, etc. It's possible I guess.

I'm a firm believer of allowing our body to do the healing by the food we eat. I used to suffer from prostatitis, digestive problems, acid reflux and high cholesterol. My wife use to suffer migranes and her arms use to get numbed and her cholesterol used to be high. Since we change our food habits and became vegeterians 3 years ago, we have no need for any kind of medicines, we haven't taken not even a sigle aspirine, I'm a 53 year old and my wife is 59. Please call this phone for Dr. Lozana 1-305-541-4858 he is and Endocrinologist and believes in natural healing, he will tell you the reason why you shouldn't have surgery in a better way I can tell you, he is a doctor and will explain to you in a better way. I hope everything will be resolved in the benefit of your health.
Dr. Lozana will not charge you for talking to you and will not sale anithing to you. Please e-mail me at Claudio_r@Bellsouth.net
Good luck
My 39 year old Mother has the "problem" not me....
On New Year's Eve 1998, my mother had her gallbladder removed, Ever since then she has had horrible "dumping" or Postcholecystectomy Syndrome also 10-20 mins after eating. As we all know by now the GALLBLADDER REMOVAL WAS THE CAUSE! Well her doctor doesn't think so... So we are going round and round with this.
We have tried everything! All the meds... except for that Welchol which I read about in here (Thank You to that person she is going to talk to her dr. about it) We didn't know that this could happen, as like almost everyone that has the surgery.... For some reason doctors don't want people to know the possibilities of chronic diarrhea. Questran which a lot of people use to help this condition.... Doesn't work for her. If my mother didn't take it, She would be in the bathroom at least 16-18 HOURS a day. With the meds though... she only sees a bathroom from anywhere to 1-5 hours. You can see that this is a problem... Well Now guess what. She is on disability, which pays jack! And she is loosing her home, due to lack of money. Well you would think a doctor at this point would take her seriously... (One would think!) Just 2 weeks ago she had a colonoscopy (her first) Well the doctor thought it was all in her head... untrue! Then he said there was NO CAUSE to check her Upper GI track. The fact that she has abdominal pain and pain in the back shoulder areas, don't mean anything. Ohh and the diarrhea isn't caused by the gallbladder surgery she had, right... So I'm fed up she's fed up! She has been to 5 specialists, and 3 family doctors. Not on of them will say that the diarrhea has been caused by the surgery.
There is no cure, I know this... But if ANYONE has ANY MEDICAL info that could help... PLEASE CONTACT ME! Any types of tests their doctors have taken and why would be greatly needed!
Not sure if this is rare or not but I had my surgery at Port Perry Hospital in Ontario Canada in April of 2007, Now at first I was 100% I could eat anything again but 4 Months later I kept getting an itchy Backside (Felt like worms) and then I started feeling like a had a sweaty butt (Especially when out for a walk) I had too come home and wipe myself and there was a Yellowish Liqued all the time, It just keeps getting worse and worse. Now when I have gas it leaks out of my rectum, I know this is referred as Bile Salt Diarehha and I was given Colostid and I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night but its not helping How long should it take for the Colostid to start taking effect when you first start to take it!!
Does anyone else have this after having their Gall Bladder Removed??
I was taken off Colestid as it upset my stomach and really constipated me, I read up on something called CHOLESTYRAMINE it comes in Powder and like medamucil you mix it with juice.I take 1 M.G once in the morning and once at night and so far the acid Diareahha is gone but I still have the itching and the rash is going away caused from the leaking.. Now Ive only been on this now for a week and a half so to soon to tell But so far no side effects at all!!
I suppose to a degree I agree about letting your body heal itself, but I strongly believe there is an appropriate time and place for surgical intervention. In Jan. 06 I found myself doubled over in excruciating abdominal pain. For about 3 years leading up to this I was having more and more frequent bouts of acid reflux so bad that I went to the ER on 2 different occasions thinking I was having a heart attack. Then in Jan. I had the bad abdominal pain that prompted me to go to the ER. Turns out I had a gall bladder "chock full" of stones. My gall bladder was distended from the amount of stones in it and also had become infected. It was so swollen that it was pressed against my pancreas which also became enlarged and infected. Those 2 things combined caused my liver enzymes to be totally out of whack and thus I found myself jaundiced and running a fever pf 101 for 5 days as well. Let my body heal it self? I think not. I had an ERCP done and they found that the stones were completely blocking the gall bladder duct. In addition, the bile duct had spasmed shut. There was no way that this was going to rectify itself w/o surgery. I happily reliquenshed my gall bladder. I don't think it's prudent to advise others to rule out surgery across the board. That might have been YOUR experience. It certianly hasn't been mine.
My fatherinlaw will be having his gallbladder removed this Friday, May 20. While I feel for Elizabeth E. LaBozetta, it seems as all her information is 10 years old.
There have been great advances in this surgery. My father also had his gallbladder removed during a "gastrointestinal -boliobipas". While he has the noticeable side effects, constant diarea and isvery pungent, this is due to his neglect in taking all his medicines. This is not a surgery that you can simply forget about afterwards, there is constant maintainence and new advances that is your responsibility to make sure you stay ahead of, not just you doctors. You must be proactive. While my fatherinlaw has heart problems, we are very concerned because we do not have all the information as to why he needs this surgery.
Good luck but keep on top of this, this is not the time to make rush desisions as to have or not have the surgery. You have already gotten behind the eightball waiting this long to ask questions. Most doctors know best but I would nothave such a surgery unless I understood fully all the side effects and all the posibilities/concerns with the surgery.
i completely disagree with you on this for the reason that i had the almost exact same thing happen to me just a year ago and you just dont understand the pain and suffering that alot of us have gone through and that could have been prevented if we were given all of the right and truthful information. i am glad that your family member has had such limited problems but for the rest of us that have had complications you can never understand the torment and torcher that weve had to go through. even that your loved ones had to go through. my husband had to stand there and hear from my doctor that i my not make it through the next few min let alone the next few hours. you dont know what it feels like to have to learn to walk all over again because you havent walked for three weeks because you were in and out of surgery three times in one month. so you want updated info here you go the main malpractic lawsuit in the U.S. is messups from laproscopic surgeries. over 50% of people have minor to major complications from these surgeries and a lot of the ones that had major comps couldnt talk about it because they had multiple organ failure or they are now dead God rest their souls. ALL could have been prevented with proper medical advice and all true info form doctor to patient. so there is your up date. im glad all is well with you but for some of us its not like that. best wishes to you and your family.

I know this was a long time ago but did you indeed have your surgery or did you do the Liver Flush and how is it going now because I'm going to the doctor myself next week because I have pain on the right side of my chest and in my shoulder area.

"Please, if you have had a positive experience with Gallbladder Surgery or with any therapy discussed on CureZone, please report it. It doesn't have to be a 3 page story."
I saw this this morning and it is really true that us that have had successful GB surgery wouldn't be hanging out here! I just happened here while looking for something else.
I had laprascopic GB surgery in May '99. It was a snap and I had no dfficulties whatsoever. I hardly slowed down.
I am amazed that my body has adapted very well to the lack of GB. I have no trouble digesting fats (although I eat only healthy ones...usually!).
I had lots of problems before and never knew when something would trigger an attack.
I just had my GB removed this past Wed. via the lap. procedure and couldn't be happier that I did it. Although, these flushes may work and provide relief, it is only temprorary & why would one want to know you'll have to practice this regimen for the rest of one's life. I haven't had an opportunity to read through everything listed on this site regarding the con's to the surgery, although I'd love to be enlightened to some of them, other than the obvious where the surgery may not have worked for some, which is the chance you take with any surgery. It's just interesting to me that so many are against the surgery and don't mind subjecting themselves to a "flush" routine for the rest of their lives. My surgery went well, I was afflicted with several small stones and was suffering attacks here and there, mostly caused by eating high fat foods. I'm on day 5 of recovery and haven't had any set backs yet. Looking forward to not having to question my diet on a daily basis.
Is it safe to do a gallbladder pack with caster oil for three days then a Liver Flush with 6 oz olive oil and lemon juice? I have a detailed plan but want info from others who have tried this method. It sounds really good, but?
What kind of results are people getting?
I am needing information about stress to my liver with this protocall.
What is the risk?
Thanks

I wish I would have found this website 8 years ago.
I went to the doctor after having sharp pains in my side. They were an ongoing battle I had for months, and no one ever found anything. One day I was not feeling so well, and I had bad pains in my side. I went to the doctor, and they had me drink some green stuff, and also did an ultrasound and x-ray.
They found that I had stones in my Gallbladder.
This doctor basically referred me to a surgeon to remove the gallbladder, because he said since it runs in my family, all I ever will have is trouble with stones and that it would only continue. I had my Gallbladder removed, and I wish I hadn’t!
I get on here and see all these postings of folks who do these flushes and feel great! I was never given any options other than surgery, and to this day I get very upset! I hate the fact that the doctors I went to saw nothing but $$$ signs. They should have informed me. I had no clue. They made it sound like such a necessary thing.
He never told me about how diet can affect the gallbladder and the forming of stones. I also had read somewhere about a medication that helps dissolve stones, and then lets discuss ALL the things that could have went wrong!
There are tons of people on here who had horrible experiences! Between side affects and the cutting of organs by mistake, it is just a frightening thought that I ever even did this!
And then let’s talk about the embarrassment of having to go through surgery! I don’t care what anyone says, doctors are human, and they are seeing you laid out naked! And VULNERABLE! That is such a scary thought! Ok, maybe they don’t do anything inappropriate to you, but I am sure that while folks are under anesthesia, the surgeons and nurses may SAY inappropriate things about you.
I know we as a society would like to think that doctors aren’t that way, but as we have seen now a days on TV news programs of Doctors molesting patients and nurses killing patients, I don’t trust any of them.
I wish I would have been with my now husband back then. He would at least been there to support me questioning the doctor.
Sometimes I think doctors find patients unsuspecting and vulnerable, especially by themselves, and could talk them into anything.
When I have to go to the doctor now, my husband is the first person who is in there with me. I do not trust them! And don’t ever let any doctor tell you that your spouse cannot be in there with you either! My husband comes with me or I leave! I have never had an issue, yet.
I know I had mine done, but I wish I hadn’t. Stones can still form, even without your gallbladder.
Gallbladder surgery is not necessary! People, change your diet, cut the grease and fat from your diets, drink plenty of water, you will be fine!!! Unless your gallbladder is diseased, there should not be a reason to do this unnecessary surgery.
