Hello!!! My girlfriend complains of a "toasty", dusty, musty smell coming from my nose... I have years of experience with sinus infections, and the smell is always at its worst when I get an infection, but sometimes the smell comes around even when I don't have symptoms... After using the Grossan irrigator daily for a few months, I have found that my sense of smell has improved GREATLY, and I believe that I have now smelled this "burning" smell for the very first time... To me it smells like a furnace when it's turned on for the first time of the season, but also like an old, dusty, musty couch.... Does anybody have experience with this phenomena? Some people describe it as smelling like there's a cigarette burning in the room when there is none... Like I said, I have been using the Grossan irrigator for several weeks, and when my symptoms flare up, I put some GSE drops in the saline mix and the yellow mucus and congestion all but disappear, but the smell remains!!!! I am going to try diflucan now to see if my problem is fungal... Also, it might be a food allergy... I have had a bout with candida in the past, but I really don't have symptoms from that anymore... Any shared experience with this would be greatly appreciated...
Sinusitis is one of the largest health concerns in America!! Where are all the peeps???? I guess people don't realize how much sinus problems are connected to allergies, candida, amalgams, and liver function.... I hope I can make a diff by trying to put this forum in the "popular" section where it belongs by posting to it every day or so.......
Stachybotrys is the toxic mold that has a burnt toast smell. I don't see how you could have a systemic Stachybotrys infection as it grows on low-nitrogen media like sheetrock and wood unless you have sinuses full of cellulose from blowing in cellulose (paper pulp) insulation or have a background in some kind of fiber processing. Use a drop of white Iodine per gallon of hot salt water in your Grossan irrigator and use Mucinex time-release Guiafenesin and drink plenty of pure water to thin mucus to get it to purge itself. Take Caprylic Acid to whack back any other systemic Candida which might sensitize you to infection or environmental mold and fungus. And please be patient. Check out the Colloidal Silver forum for a nontoxic antiseptic spray. God bless!
That's really funny... I didn't even mention it, but that's EXACTLY how my girlfriend has described the smell for years!!!! I do believe it is some kind of fungus, because the diflucan, in combination with my GSE irrigations, is working great!! It's already pretty much gone... but it usually returns... This is the first time I've attacked it like a fungus, tho... Before I had always thought it was bacterial and related to allergies... I have spent many years in some jobs where the conditions were extremely moldy, and in warehouse-type locations where there were many chemicals, fiber insulation, etc... But maybe I don't have a systemic infection of this mold you speak of, but maybe it is just a chronic, low-grade thing confined to my sinuses?? Or maybe it's just how candida manifests itself in the sinuses as well? With that same odor? My girlfriend has an extremely keen sense of smell.... Others have not smelled it as much... And white iodine? What does that do? I have never heard of it... Thank you so much for repsonding... I've been struggling with identifying and eliminating this issue from my life for years now...
I had sinus surgery for same reason.I had sinusitis and polyps also were removed.I am currently under treatmnet for polyps and was told to continue irrigating for the fungal infection but I continue to have that smell which drives me crazy and I feel like I am choking almost on a daily basis. It is like someone is smoking right next to me.Before I found out I had sinusitis I thought I was going crazy and alot of people looked at me like I was making this up.The hard part is that I still get that smell even when I don't have other symptoms.I will be perfectly fine and then it is like I can't breathe.I actually had to stop what I was doing at work once and see a nurse because I needed a breathing treatment.Sometimes when I sleeping it overcomes me and it wakes me up.I was told by by ENT that I will always have fungal problems.I wonder how common this is.
