Just google the company and the news swirling around them.
The few multi-million dollar companies in the farming industry would like nothing better than to eliminate any opposition with the support of the federal government.
The Bills will require organic farms to use specific fertilizers and poisonous sprays. All farms and growers will be instructed and regulated by the newly formed agency to 'make sure there is no danger to the general public and the appending food supply.' The attempt is to 'standardize' the agricultural industry.
At first this may appear as if it is only directed at commercial farms but don't be fooled. This WILL include backyard gardens that grow food for consumption by a single family and not intended for resale. Most prior Bills that started off with such intent are later expanded in their scope and become more restricted in nature.
THIS IS DICTATORSHIP any way you look at it.
If this passes then NO more heirloom clean seeds but only Monsanto genetically altered seeds that are now showing up with unexpected diseases in humans.
The name on this evil food plan is the...
Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009
(Really makes it sound like the feds are trying protect us!)
Let me be crystal clear here......
This has NOTHING to do with food safety.
This is only about TOTAL CONTROL by the federal gov't in our lives.
This is the standard game that we continually see being played over and over, namely, corrupt big business interests (being Monsanto here) who try to increase their market share of their crappy unhealthy products forcefully, by shutting down their competition's good products via legislation emanating from corrrupt bought politicians.
Um, have any of you read the bill? Its about inspection of food processors, and certification/hiring of additional inspectors, as well as administrative stuff about verification of where overseas products come from.
There is nothing in there about organic farming, backyard farms, seeds, or fertilizers (except something about documenting it contents).
I know monsanto is a filty, greedy, corrupt company with huge and undue influence. However, they are not going to send thugs to stomp your pumpkins into the ground.
If anything, they will get the legal definition of organic changed so they can sell their modified and sprayed products to the people clamoring for organic produce.
Think for a minute and actually read this crap before you panic.
Here's a link to an an organic food site that says that the sky is not falling...
Not at all -- they are only out after profits. The more profits they make, the more lobbying power they have. And the more lobbying power, the more profits. And so it goes on...
thats probably the 'real' side of the issue, but after reading some of cwk's posts, they obviously look at it differently.
A little bit less real if you know what I mean.
Many small farmers and organic food activists are claiming that if H.R. 875 is passed, it will mean the end of organic farming in the United States.
H.R. 875 was introduced by Democrat Rosa DeLauro in February. Her introduction of this bill represents a stunning conflict of interest, because her husband, Stanley Greenburg, works for Monsanto.
Monsanto is the world's biggest producer of herbicides and genetically engineered seeds, and they would GREATLY
benefit if thousands of small organic farmers were put out of business, because organic farmers don't use Monsanto products.
H.R. 875 is called the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 and you can find the full text of the bill here:
This horrific bill would establish a "Food Safety Administration" within the Department of Health and Human Services. The mandate of this new department would be "to protect the public health by preventing food-borne illness, ensuring the safety of food, improving research on contaminants leading to food-borne illness, and
improving security of food from intentional contamination, and for other purposes."
Section 3 of H.R. 875 defines what type of establishments would be subject to the regulations in this legislation. It that section, a "food production facility" is defined this way:
The term ‘food production facility’ means any farm, ranch, orchard, vineyard, aquaculture facility, or confined animal-feeding operation.
So that would include.....
*All organic farms
*All small farms
*All family farms
*Even small family gardens if you sell any produce to your neighbor at all
If you read this bill, you will see that it gives the government the power to regulate what is "safe" farming, and therefore if organic farmers are not using enough herbicide on their plants to be "safe" or they aren't following the same "quality control" procedures as the big guys they could be instantly put out of business.
In addition, it loads small farmers with massive amounts of paperwork and administrative burdens that the big corporations can handle but they can't.
That is how you put a horde of small competitors out of business - you get the government to pile on the rules and burdens and regulations until they collapse.
That is why Monsanto desperately wants this bill. They hate the small farmers and they want to take them out of the picture.
If you care about organic farming, please call Congress and tell them to stop this horrible bill.
how can conflict of interest in washington be stunning? as far as i can tell the entire government is in conflict with every interest of the people. whats been stunning is the power grab of the last decade which has only been accelerated by the new administration.
"They used to grow food in Kansas Now they want to grow it on the moon and eat it raw. I can see the day coming when even your home garden Is gonna be against the law."
bob dylan - 1983
"Union Sundown" is a political protest song against imported consumer goods and greed. It displays Dylan's penchant and ability to take a concept and examine it from every angle in a single song, discussing the greed and power of corporations ("You know capitalism is above the law,/ It don't count unless it sells./ When it costs too much to build it at home you just build it cheaper someplace else." ... "Democracy don't rule this world,/ You better get that through your head./ This world is ruled by violence..."), the hypocrisy of Americans who complain about the lack of American jobs while not paying more for American-made products ("Lots of people complainin' that there is no work./I say, 'Why you say that for? When nothin' you got is U.S.-made? They don't make nothin' here no more'"), the complicity of the unions themselves ("While the union's a big business fan/And they're goin' down like a dinosaur."), and the desperate conditions of the forign workers who make the goods ("All the furniture, it say 'Made in Brazil,'/ Where a women she slaved for sure,/ Bringin' home 30 cents a day to her family of twelve,/ You know that's a lot of money to her." ... "And a man's going to do what he has to do,/ When he's got a hungry mouth to feed.").
I have read the bill in full, and you are correct, it does not mention the word organic.
But that's not it's insidiousness. It includes ANY 'food producer' and if the bill is passed, ANY 'food producer' will be subject to the guidelines. BUT the 'guidelines' are not yet determined OR fully listed.
Whatever panel they appoint to set the guidelines, will ascertain what chemicals & drugs 'food producers' MUST use, and no matter how unhealthy it is, the bill will 'cover it'.
It's a law/bill that basically says "if this is passed, we can set whatever guidelines we want - but we're not telling you what the guidelines are". And since the backers of the bill are notoriously dangerous, it's safe to assume the required chemicals & antibiotics will be dangerously unhealthy.
I don't need a website to interpret what I can clearly read and understand.
The organic standards now may be a joke, but if this passes (and they use it to do what the bill says they CAN do) it could wipe out organic farming & gardening completely.
There is a specific paragraph in the bill that excludes home gardens and places that grow food for "non-commercial use".
Get to know a garden up close and personal by actually planting one for you and your family.
You guys just dont get it. There is a juggernaut rolling and this PROPOSED bill with all its PROPOSED future implications is just a small part of it. Stop wondering what others are going to do for you and start being proactive and doing for yourself. Don't wait for a post on an internet forum to get your blood pumping. Plant a damn garden with heirloom seeds and get some classic gardening books, get some dirt under your fingernails and start becoming self sufficient. There is a storm coming later this year, and only those who start becoming self sufficient NOW will survive.
Stop wasting your time on trying to stop bills that you cannot stop. Remember the overwhelming outcry against the bailouts? All the phone calls, faxes, emails, protests? Didn't do much did it? Wanna know why?
Because they dont care what you eat, think, or feel. If they fail this time, and you are busy posting here about how "we showed them!" they will have 10 more plans in the background, steadily gaining ground.
Do you really think that if this is stopped they will just up and quit? Bwahahahahaha.
Turn off the TV, pour the Bud Light down the drain, and start doing something for your survival.
Let me tell you what you will see later this year. You will be driving through a nice suburban neighborhood, with manicured lawns, and about the 10th lawn in you will see a guy digging up his previously immaculate lawn and planting a garden. The neighbors will drive by giving looks of astonishment, and a few will walk up and say "Hey Bob, what the hell are you doing?"
Then about 3 months later, after the drought in Cali hits full force, after there are no fruits or veggies being delivered, these same people will be coming up to Bob and saying "um...can you teach us how to do that?"
America is the least prepared country on the face of the Earth if a crisis would hit. Anyone remember Katrina? I do, I was there helping people get the hell out. You could see on TV endless coverage of this monster getting ready to make landfall.
What did people all around me do? "I think I'll ride it out."
Yeah, we call those people chalk marks, and you can STILL see them to this day in New Orleans.
Soon there may be no middle class, no one to look out for you, no one on CureZone because the net will be in subscription form and to read sites like this will cost you extra. Become self sufficient now, learn how to make a garden out of almost nothing, learn which crops will give the most return for your time, space and labor. Hint: its not the SuperFoods David Wolfe is trying to shove down your throat at inflated prices before Sunfood.Com goes bankrupt, as it WILL soon.
Learn the best non-electric method of filtering water, research those things other people call "weeds" but we know as life saving herbs, the ones that grow near you and your house. How much you want to bet all you need is growing within 5 miles of your house right now?
This post and the previous one is not intended for the posters I consider the backbone of CureZone, the people who walk the talk and selflessly help out strangers on the net every day. I bow to you and your amount of time and energy well spent, may it return to you ten fold.
Its for those who think they only need to be vigilant to the point of getting others to petition with them, then they are "safe". You ain't.
I think you're right, Adonis, up to a point. The government is going to keep going with their infringements of our rights and freedoms. It WON'T do any good to petition, but it may tell our congressment who is awake and who isn't. It might stem the tide for a little while longer.
Much better post - though you could have been a bit more diplomatic in the subject line.
Awesome (re)incarnate is right about incrementalism. And you are right about the powers of darkness not stopping due to any single defeats (look at how they have relentlessly schemed to overturn and circumvent DSHEA). Even so, no reason to roll over - and until the complete rise of the Diebold machines no matter how controlled our puppet leaders are they still fear voters turning against them in large numbers.
Now, about that testimonial, don't be a tease - let's have it!
>>>There is a specific paragraph in the bill that excludes home gardens and places that grow food for "non-commercial use".<<<
Could you please copy/paste & post this part. I did read the entire bill, hoping to see something like that - so if it's in there, I obviously missed it.
Since you seem to know the bill so completely, I'm sure you have this info 'at the ready'...and I do NOT want to spread disinformation.
"There is a storm coming later this year, and only those who start becoming self sufficient NOW will survive."
I have to agree with you.
I have always liked to garden to grow my own food. A huge source of pleasure for me. Now, I see it as an URGENT and IMPERATIVE pleasure. Hubby is finally starting to come on board with me (to an extent) about needing to be able to provide for ourselves.
Last year I put in my first garden on this piece of dirt, and though it did ok it has lots of improvement to go before the soil is 100%. Still folks here drove by and awed at it as though they could not believe their eyes. Took a darn lot of work, sore muscles and loads of dirt under my finger nails. Best exercise program I ever got. And talk about getting up a sweat!
When harvest came along I was eating like I was starving (actually I was with the grocery store fair) while I plucked.
I gave away loads of produce just because it pleased me to do so. This year people are already talking about my garden again wanting to know what I am going to grow and when I am going to get started. But alas, we are putting in a new root cellar this summer and not going to be giving away as much as before.
Very few around here are interested in growing their own, but they sure get excited when given home grown goodies.
I am no where near ready for the coming storm but have great faith that God will lead me where I need to go and in what I need to do.
I believe curezone is where i heard it said, that when the student is ready to learn, the teacher will appear. Well I am ready to learn and do. And will help the other to learn the same.
Great Post.
Blessings
Ready
This is an excellent post. It is time to prepare, although I'm a bit confused. Doesn't this conflict with your earlier post? In reference to your first post, yes, the sky is indeed falling in so many ways and that is why we must become prepared before it is too late. Get those heirloom seeds now, learn, plant, and be prepared. Our survival and health are at stake.
Although I agree with you to some extent that it may be impossible to stop "the powers that be", it is important that the public be heard. I am well aware that we are witnessing what has been long in planning as to not only the future of our country, but the future of the world. However, in my opinion, not enough of us are rising up. One thing our representatives want, is to be re-elected. If enough of us let them know that we will put them out of office should they not truly represent us, it may be different. Fear is a wonderful catalyst. But we need a massive outcry. There are far too many complascent Americans that do not believe that these foods are harmful, don't care, and some don't even have a clue. It is up to us to inform them of the dangers, the greatest of which is the upcoming loss of our freedoms. This is what it is all about and controlling our food supply is just one avenue. It is a huge undertaking, as the American people have been "asleep" for so long, that the "other side" has gained foothold. Sadly, this is what our forefathers fought for and tried to prevent when forming the Constitution. The grief they must feel! We have silently shrugged our shoulders as these bills have been passed, while talking amongst ourselves about the injustice of it all. It is time to be heard, and do all we can to put a stop to this, because frankly, time is running out, rather quickly. Life as we have known it since we were children is about to drastically change. At the very least, let us not go down without a fight. Without saying, "I did my very best." All the while preparing for survival against what may at this point very well be the inevitable.
The Sky is indeed falling. Let us wake up, act, and prepare.
