ok, i know this question has been debated before, but i can't find any recent info pertaining to doing the mc while breastfeeding. my daughter will be 2 in july, so she is only nursing a few times during the day and a few at night, not for prolonged periods of time. i tried doing the mc before, but i figured out on day 3 that i was pregnant with her and promptly stopped. i would love to do it sooner than later, but i don't see weaning in our near future, when she wants to nurse it's her way or the highway :) any advice for or against would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance.
I think the main issue is whether you would be providing enough nutrients for your daughter. I presume she eats table food hardily by now. Does she drink cow's milk (or soy), too, or does she strictly breastfeed? Breastfeeding at this point provides the calcium more than the other nutrients. So, calcium could be augmented by cheese, yogurt, etc. But the MC MAY make your milk stop altogether because of the effect on your body.
My comments are not based on MC expertise!! I just know about breastfeeding because I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter. But I only breastfed for one year!
Hopefully, someone will have some better insight for you.
yes, my daughter does get most of her nutrition through food at this point. she mostly nurses before her nap and before bed, and in between those times if she gets hurt or something of that nature. i would think she does get enough calcium from cheese, milk and yogurt; but i have read that calcium from those sources are not absorbed in the body to the degree which breast milk is, so i'm not entirely positive.
i am concerned about the milk production actually stopping,.. in a way i think it may be good if it provokes her to wean, but if it seems to be too emotionally traumatic for her i would break the cleanse and wait until she weans on her own terms.
my other concerns are primarily the released toxins, and the effect of the cayenne and lemon juice on her digestive tract.
if anyone has any insight or experience with this it would be greatly appreciated.
Your concerns are well founded as when you are fasting it would just be plain ole common sense that the toxins that are being relased will be also be passed by the milk. Also in the case of the laxative tea your child will most likely get diarhea. Add to all this the nutrition of the milk also being compromised and all these facts would make breastfeeding while fasting a resounding NO.
i know the nutrition of the milk would be compromised, but she doesn't nurse for food, merely comfort. however i completely forgot about the laxative tea (i'm not sure how i did, severe brain fog :) ) one of the main reasons i wanted to do the fast is because of the toxins.... correct me if i'm wrong.... but i've read that the majority of the toxins are stored in the fat in your body, and milk is made from these same fat stores. i'm not saying i still want to do the fast now, but if that statement were true then would it be any different? would it be the amount of toxins released at one time, and too much for a tiny liver to handle? (i think i just answered my question, but please let me know..
i wasn't saying i still wanted to do the mc.... i was simply asking if that statement was something you agree with or consider to be true. but i don't care for an answer if you are attempting to criticize me as a mother. if i had no regard for my child i wouldn't have asked in the first place. i was considering the cleanse if it would remove the toxins from my body and my milk; a two part venture for both of us. i have nursed my daughter for almost two years (obviously selfish on my part) and was concerned about the prolonged nursing and the continuing ingestion of toxins on her part. oh, and i bike an hour everyday pulling her in a trailer and walk for 30 minutes. we both eat a diet containing as much raw fruits, nuts and veggies as possible, but have not made the complete plunge yet.
Hey, Mom! So good of you to given so much consideration and thought to your own and the health of your daughter :)
How about freezing some of your breastmilk and giving it to her in a bottle? Would it have any means to comfort in that form? Frozen milk is not ideal, but it is still one of the highest quality food sources you can provide for you child. After you pump and freeze...you can cleanse! And after you have cleansed you can give you daughter even higher quality milk from your new breasts!
But it sounds like maybe your considering pushing her away from the breast feeding a bit? Did I hear that somewhere in your posts? Maybe this is the perfect time.
my daughter will drink milk in a bottle, cup or really anything, but just wants the breast no matter what. i was thinking weaning was in our near future but she has increased the frequency and duration lately; morning and night. asking her to not breastfeed when she wants ends in a tantrum and more time at the breast. i think cleansing isn't happening for me; maybe it can be my start to 2010 :) thanks for the insight though!
