Hi I'm 16 and have already had 2 of these terrible abscesses and I think I'm on the verge of getting another one. But I'm not quite sure, these abscesses have made me quite paranoid.With the first one I had no clue what it was until the pain was completly unbearable and I had to go to the emergency room in the middle of night. The doctor said he'd have to make a small incision. It may have been small but the pain was huge. The anestesia obviously didn't work which made That the most definitly the worst pain I have ever experienced in my entire LIFE so far. He then gave me a stich and told me to come back in 3 days. Well they prescribed me plenty of antibiotics and Tylenol 3 for pain. I thought this was over. But one month later another bartholin abscess appeared and I thought to myself no this can't be happening again. And this one felt completly different from the first one. But of course,it was there and I went to the Emergency room again. They told me to go to the gyno and prescribed me antibiotics(Clindamycin) in a very high dose and told me to take sitz baths. With the antibiotics the abscess went away on it own. Now 1 month later I think I'm getting again but I'm not entirely sure. I refuse to go under the knife once again (way too traumitizing)my mom says I being a real chicken about all this but she hasn't gone through it so I have now looked to homeopathics methods and sitz baths.I just bought Silicea 30C at my local vitamin shop for about 8 bucks lets see if it works.And for all of you going through this I know the pain you're in I'm a 3 month long veteran to the Bartholin devil!!
I too have gone thru this.
I had it lanced in Dec. 08...VERY VERY painful and i agree, the anethesia DIDNOT work.(bad doctor too)
Then after that traumatic experience, it came back in March 09.
I then went to a different gyn doctor after finding out that lancing is only a temp fix.
She proceded to agree that i needed marsupialization surgery on it.
This was quite easy compared to the first office procedure of lancing.
I went to a outpatient surgery center and had it done.
She performed the procedure for the cost of $3000.00!!!!
Her fee was around $900/ Surgery center was $1750.00/Rest was for the anethesiologist. (and i dont have any insurance!! OUCH)
Well... sad to say, its back!!!!!!
The gyn doctor says, well, lets do it again.
Im like WHAT????!!!!!!!
Easy for her to say,after all ium the one who has to deal with the pain physically and financially!!!!!!!!!
So, now im trying acupunture and herbals.
I will let you know what happens next.
Im a pro at sitz baths now. LOL

I just had one, it is gone,I'm 34 years and I'm having this thing from a year ago. I had three already on one year, the thing that was helping me is vicks , help alot with the pain and don;t let it to grew to big, but on Saturday I told my mom I had one again, she told me about a ointment Vitamins A &D from CVS Pharmacy this is the generic $ 5,oo it's is in the baby seccion (yes it's for baby's rush) I used last night and today I don;t have nothing the smell is little strong so maybe is better if you use skirt those days. I hope it's not a coinsidence and next time I feel that one is coming I will us again and let u guys know, how its go, I was readint the box and it says 15 % lanolin ans 53.4% petroleum, as active ingredients.

i would never want to turn any woman away from a remedy that could possibly prevent or treat this terrible affliction, but... about v*ck's v*porub and the ointment, and anything that has petroleum jelly/v*seline in it, there is some concern that petroleum jelly clogs the pores and, just like that would make u not want to use it on your face ...it could clog the glands (bartholin's), which could cause the cysts/abcesses or at least make them worse... so please give careful consideration whether u wanna use that or keep using it, okay? i think we, suffering with this, should look for remedies that can declog/dissolve/draw/drain the glands in some way - but i am still looking... and if i ever find anything to help, you can bet i will share it immediately! ............my heart goes out to anyone else suffering with this... god bless you~ missy
Well....
I am 1 week into taking Chinese herbal pills
(Andrographis Formula-Chuan Xin Lian )5/3x a day.
I went to the acupuncturist(2 treatments) She prescribed them to me.
I also have been applying "Goldenseal" every night.
Just put some on a cotton pad and
place it on the cyst, leave overnight.
I got the kind with no alcohol in it so it doesnt burn.
So far so good.
I cancelled my second surgery for this..whew!
So i will keep everyone updated on my progress.
Be back in about a week or so.

it's so awful that u keep getting them... i don't know if you've had sexual intercourse (and u don't need to answer!) but some things i've read - i don't know if we should believe it or not - say that the cysts seem to be a result of some sort of infection or irritation from being with someone - but whether u have been or not, i try to learn about this for myself and, maybe we get them because our bodies' secretions are thicker than other women's and it makes the glands clog ...so i started researching ways to thin secretions, and...
i haven't been able to afford to try it but, i think something called serrapeptase might help... it is an enzyme made from either silk worms OR lab-created (made without hurting any wormies ...you have to read to see which kind you're getting if that matters to you), that, it dissolves unhealthy tissue but doesnt harm healthy tissue...
it is supposed to dissolve mucous (like from your nose...) and also blood clots both in your veins (the kind that make people get heart attacks) and help your body cleanse when you get your periods too, and i can't help but think it would thin out our secretions and maybe unclog or help keep the glands from getting clogged...
can you maybe ask your mom if she can buy some capsules from a healthfood store near you, or order you some ...and please let us know how you're doing, okay??? ...god bless you... missy
Well... finally the marsupialization worked!
At first i thought i started my period, but to my shock and surprize... the pressure of the Bartholins was gone!
Needless to say it was quit a bit of blood, but after a change of clothes, ect... was finally glad to be rid of the pressure.
It is still there but now i know the marsupialization surgery is working.
I know surgery is the last resort, but it is the only way to deal with this oh so wonderful issue we women get to deal with.
To all who are sufferring with one, hang in there.
Ps. the accupuncture and herbs didnt really make a difference.
I had to go thru the same pain on my first doctor visit for my bartholins problem. He gave me shots in the area of abcess (like the dentist would give to numb your gums). Well, the shots didnt work. And the doctor missed the abcess with the scalpel, and i must agree it was THE WORST PAIN EVER. I was screaming for him to stop cutting me, begging him to stop. Sinced he missed the abcess, i had to come back a couple days later. This time he gave me a shot of demmeral in the butt and i couldnt feel anything.
Thats my advice to anyone dealing with this for the first time. If theyyou want toyou lance it, tell themyou to give you demeral, as ita is athat VERY sensitivenice area they're dealinggonna with! And also, if you have insurance, try to see a gyno. Maybe even two.
When mine was coming back a second time i decided to see a gyno cuz i had insurance. He told me he had to wait for it to get inflamed before he could do anything. Within a few days it swelled up to the size of TWO golf balls. I had to go to e.r. the e.r. doc said hed lance it, but when he lifted my smock to look at it for the first time he was shocked. He said he was not going to touch it and he was gonna call the oncall gyno. She was heaven sent. She told me the first doctor should have done something about it when it was smaller (about pea sized).
So PLEASE ladies, if you're not sure or are uncomfortable, get a second opinion!
I feel like it's coming back a third time, so i called my doc yesterday, she immediately called in a scriipt for strong antibiotics and I'm going to her office today.
