I tried to do my first salt water flush (SWF) this morning.
I drank a cup of yogi herbal laxative tea last night.
This morning, first thing, I had a cup of hot water with lemon and cayenne, and a half hour later I mixed the SWF solution, of 2 tsp Sea Salt with 1 quart of lukewarm water. (body temperature.)
I waited and waited and nothing. Finally I sat on the bowl and managed to have a normal (for fasting) small BM. But no water at all.
I was very disappointed. First, I was really looking forward to a new way of cleansing the intestines and colon during a fast. Also, the idea of all that salt staying in me kinda freaks me out.
Tomorrow I plan on trying to do another SWF, but this time with 3 tsp of seal salt. I'll be really bummed if that doesn't work, and all that salt stays in my system.
Am I doing the right thing?
Btw, I am also very well hydrated. In addition to the juices I am making for myself I am drinking around three quarts of distilled water a day.
Don't eat or drink anything before the SWF, even water.
How long did it take you to drink the whole quart of salt water? You need to chug it down as quickly as possible. Pretend you are at a frat party chugging a beer with the whole house yelling CHUG! CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!
the SWF should be the first thing you have in the morning...then wait and if nothing happens, drink water (lukewarm or cold or ice-cold) and wait...keep drinking water and eventually it will flush through...don't add any more salt; follow the amounts for salt and water that they give on the SWF recipe...also, i used to heat my SWF up so it was more like a broth and then i would drink it...it seemed to help with the taste..good luck, madonna
I did do it first thing in the morning, except for the cup of hot water with lemon and cayenne. I guess you're saying don't have that.
I didn't chase it with more water because I figured that would dilute the salt content further. I also drank it quite warm already. Hotter would just make it take much longer to drink it.
I guess I was looking for someone to tell me go ahead and add another tsp of salt, (3), but clearly you are saying don't do that. I though I saw a post somewhere about adding more salt if it didn't work.
Right now I am not confident enough to drink the same mixture, (2 tsp Sea Salt to 1 qt water), as before. And, if it doesn't work follow it down with regular water. Why would it work next time? The idea of another 2 tsp of salt stuck in my body in the middle of a long fast, (4 tsp total), is too disturbing.
I also can't imagine that the 8 oz of hot cayenne lemon water I drank a half hour earlier messed it up that completely, but please feel free to tell me I am 100% wrong about that.
You have so many variables it's hard to give any cogent advice...whether your salt is ground or in mined form...your own body and how it responds...the fact that you're fasting and not on the Master Cleanse...I've only done the SWF with the Master Cleanse, took up to 20 minutes to finish the SWF each morning, drank it as hot as possible...I had trouble the first day of my MC, went on the MC Forum for advice, and was told to drink more water after the SWF until the results came... From Day 2 on, the SWF worked most days without the additional water, and some days I had to drink additional water and then it worked...if you go on the MC Forum archives, you'll see that posts about the SWF not working are quite common and advice given quite varied; i don't know about using the SWF with fasting as I've never mixed the two...good luck
The essential point about the SWF is that it has the same specific gravity as the blood, and thus is not 'picked up'.
This is what causes it to move through the stomach unimpeded, and cleanse the entire tract, top to bottom. Drinking anything before taking it (naturally, if you consider it) means that you've changed the quality of the solution in some manner.
On a day you do the swf take anything like lemon water later. In fact, have no water, nothing, before the swf. It comes first, and it's not necessay to chug it--regardless of what some people may choose to do. In fact, sipping it within about ten minutes is fine and works well. Also, taking it about broth temperature is recommended. The body doesn't need or particulary want any liquid coming in too fast--that represents a form of aggression, and is against the principles that govern the SWF, which are:
gentleness, calm, and notthing like a purge so much as a cleanse.
Once the bowels begin to move, and only then, sip another cup of plain, boiled water. Not lemon. The whole thing should be complete in an hour or so. The only times it doesn't "work" would be either that you are so dehydrated, the body is desperate for some of the water, and thus absorbs some of the salt too, resulting in bloating, OR
there is too much constipation, or maybe in some rare case, the body tried to 'pick up' the minerals in the Sea Salt . You are, of course using only the best unrefined sea salt--or himayalan.
In your case, it was the lemon and water that intertered.
The swf sounds very unhealthy to me. Remember you are not eating. You are just taking juice. I think you should leave the intestinal cleanse up to the wisdom of your body. It will happen when it is the right time if you leave it to nature. I know I have read negative things about the swf. I don't have time to research it for you but I know the information is out there. It really makes sense to me. How could taking all that salt be healthy? I don't want to start a debate. This is just food for thought.
I agree with Rainy,
I am not an advocate of the SWF as it is considered to be a "forcing-measure" by many Natural Hygienists and in their considerable experience, will enervate the body and erode its life-force: resulting in the further checking of elimination.
This of course defeats the whole purpose of the water-only-fast.
THE GASTRIC LAVAGE DURING THE FAST and other FORCING MEASURES..........
"All of these forcing measures are not only unnecessary and futile, but they constitute a heavy drain upon the energies and substances of the fasting organism. All forms of stimulation are enervating and the more they are used the more enervation they produce. The activities of the organs of elimination are in keeping with the amount of functional energy with which they are supplied and all efforts to keep them "constantly active" in spite of a lack of energy, only renders them less able to act. For, everything that we appear to gain in the increased activity occasioned by the forcing measures, we lose in the inevitable reaction. Every new source of enervation becomes an actual check to elimination. Our efforts should all be directed to the end of conserving the energies and reserves of the patient in every possible way, and not to dissipating them as rapidly as possible. Rest, quiet, poise, warmth--these are far more important than any method of treatment ever devised". http://www.soilandhealth.org/02/0201hyglibcat/020127shelton.III/020127.ch29.htm
I'm glad you provided the link to the information to back this up. I knew it was out there somewhere. Just the thought of taking all that salt makes me want to run. I would never make it on The Master Cleanse if this is required. Thank you.
