Not sure if this could help anyone wondering what to expect if they become pregnant after having bad Mirena side-effects, but thought I'd post what differences I notice with this pregnancy versus my other 2 pre-mirena pregnancies. My side effects with mirena were heart palpitations, panick attacks, anxiety, high blood pressure, dizziness and vertigo. I was back to about 90-95% better when I got pregnant at 1yr 3mo post-removal.
I'm 5 1/2 wks along now, and I've noticed that the remaining anxiety I had from mirena has pretty much gone away. Maybe it's the extra progesterone my body's producing? I have had some dizzy spells that have come and gone, different from the vertigo I'd get post-mirena. It's been manageable though, and hasn't happened for a couple days. More troubling is I've started getting heart palpitations again, and they are different than before. Like an extra heartbeat that I can feel, I think they call them PVC's? That started about 4 days ago. Went to the doctor and he said it's probably just the hormones, and he wasn't worried. Still no morning sickness yet.
I wish you the best w/ this pregnancy! I am 6 weeks post-mirena and started my period yesterday! Yay! From what I read symptoms seem to ease with each cycle, so I'm glad to get back on track. I was wondering if you can explain what exactly your heart palpitations feel like. I get this feeling of blood rushing to my chest and throat area. Like when you get up too fast and you get a head rush. Same feeling just in the chest area. It doesn't seem as bad since Mirena was taken out, but it hasn't gone away. It is the one thing that I can't put my finger on. I am thinking of having them check my adrenal glands and see if they are out of whack. When I have that feeling I seem to feel revved up, sort of out of breath. I need to take a deep breath and slow down. Who knows, just relax as best you can and think of the miracle baby your carrying! Please keep us posted!!!
The heart palps I had while on mirena and for awhile after removal were strange. It was like a sudden adrenaline rush or something. It flushed up thru my stomach and into my heart, making it beat super fast. It's almost like the feeling of when you have to suddenly slam on your breaks to avoid rear ending someone, or I imagine how it'd feel if someone pulled a gun on me. Sometimes it was just mini-adrenaline rushes, and the ones that I describe as panic attacks started with the bigger adrenaline rushes where my heart raced for several minutes afterwards, my hands got clammy and shaky, had shortness of breath. Pretty scary, and I was never doing anything stressful before they would happen, just hanging out or relaxing usually. I'm a pretty mellow person. The doctor did a 24-hour urine test on me, which came up with elevated norepinephrines (a stress hormone) - the only test which ever came back abnormal for me out of many, many tests - so they did a CT scan of my adrenals, which came back normal. These kind of palpitations tapered off in the weeks and months after removal, leaving the anxiety.
The palps now are like an extra beat or thump that feels like it beats out of my chest, almost up into my throat maybe? I don't get the racing heart or anxiety with it, so far anyway.
I think I am having the same side effects, i just described my differently. I feel like i am revved up and not sure why. I sometimes think it is anxiety, but I feel like I just ran and stopped suddenly and need to take a deep breath. How long did it take to taper off? I think I am going to have my adrenals looked at also. It was something that came up when I googled my symptoms, before I Knew it was Mirena. Thanks for your input!!!!
Yay Nile...I am so happy for you. It's awesome that the anxiety is gone. I had those heart feelings in the beginning of both my pregnancies; hormones are a wacky thing. Wishing you and your family a healthy happy Labor day. Take care and keep us posted. = )
