I know there has been a ton of literature about fasting curing or tempering a myriad of illnesses, but is anything known about water fasting with PCOS?? It is an endocrine disorder...an imbalance of hormones being the root cause which can lead to insulin resistance as well as other disorders/diseases. I know sensible diet after water fasting is MOST important, but am wondering if a water fast might help. Thank you!
Jolie8558,
apparently there is no universal definition of PCOS except that it is a systemic endocrine and metabolic disorder and that there is evidence of increased androgen (male hormone) production resulting in either facial hair and/or acne.
Insulin resistance is also common with women who have PCOS, a condition that allows excessive levels of insulin to circulate in the blood, and increases the risk for Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.
Obesity is also a common feature of PCOS.
First and foremost, water-only-fasting-according-to-thirst, accompanied by the maximum amount of rest, will usually correct any metabolic and endocrinal disorders, but personally I am not familiar with this particular disorder.
What I can say is that your body is a self-healing, self-regulating, and self-repairing organism under ideal conditions of rest, fresh air, and warmth, so a fast will in all probability correct your metabolism and endocrinal glands resulting in normal functioning.
This is the general solution for anyone with a metabolic disorder......................
"The first thing to be done in all cases is to relieve the body of its toxic overload and restore nerve energy through fasting and rest. All enervating practices must be discontinued and a general program of health building carried out. Proper feeding will always include abundant quantities of fresh fruits and green vegetables. Meat and eggs should be abstained from".
How long the fast needs to be will depend on two things.........
#1. The length of time you have had the condition.
#2. The severity of it.
I would hazard an educated guess, that the fast should be at least between 20 to 30 days, followed by breaking it correctly with fresh juices, graduating to fresh fruits and then salads.
The length of the fast will also be determined by the ability of your body to heal: bearing in mind that the fast is only a catalyst in allowing your body to do its work.
It is also possible (after a careful period of refeeding for an equal number of days at least) that a second fast may be necessary to achieve the maximum benefit.
wow Chris, That was a great link. LWill have to do much more reading--but you've reminded me that it was stumbling upon Dr. Bass intitially, and reading some of his fasting lit. that really inspired me to do that longish first water fast.
Thanks for that.
Well, I always considered myself a very good partner, (of course self praise is no recommendation! ;-)) in my younger days. But I really wish some of the men I've known had read this book... Do you practice "energy karezza"? Admittedly the book's cover is a bit cheesy; too bad, or I'd get it for my son. Then again, sadly in our society, a mother giving her son such a thing might traumatize him. I'm trying to think of how to introduce him to the book without his assocaiting sex with Mom. Any ideas?
Now that I am celibate, I won't be needing it -- but I can't help wondering, whether I might have stayed married, had we both encountered this....hmmm. People in general want to think they know it all, don't they? (esp when it comes to the almost umnetionable (unless it's happening right now!) sex.
I think Dr Bass has a very good point, when he says he thinks it might reduce sexual slavery--that's a very humbling and gratifying thought.
