"A particle on its own can be many things....it cannot affect anything with
large mass; however, if enough particles are together they can affect things
with mass." - Author Unknown
I do not watch television but I will rarely go to watch a movie. I went to see the
movie Avatar and while I felt strong feelings for the oppressed in the movie, it
ended with a predictable good guys getting angry enough to finally slaughter the
bad guys... I had just hoped for more... In the movie, mankind had ruined her
planet and then moved on to ruin another. There must be a solution to this
world's problems before we go on to other planets and still, I was disappointed
that the outcome made one more justification for war. I want to be a part of a
greater solution to what I see as the programming that makes me want to cheer
for good versus evil types of scenarios. I wish I were a peace virus that would
infect the world and the fallout would be the end of all wars... then end the
war between mankind and the living things... then end the war against mountains
and streams... and I know it will have to begin with me... and still... I do not
want my 5 year old to see Avatar... because I had hoped for more...
Films for the last 15 years or so have driven me away more and more because of their dependence on extravagant special effects. Technology was overtaking good story-telling and acting. Avatar hits the zenith where the story ultimately takes a backseat to the marvel that is special effects. And in the end...will be just another movie that we watched. Nothing really solid to hang your hat on at the end of the day other than damn impressive technology. Technology bores me, don't know about you. X-Men, Iron Man, STar Trek, Harry Pottery, on and on and on...there's nothing lasting in these money-makers but the technology. Give me a "Home Alone" or a "Goodfellas" any day over these behemmoths. I'll watch "Casino" over "Watchmen" any time, any day.
I thought about
a sequel to the Avatar movie where the humans attack again but this time using
nukes. The universe responds and invades earth with 'grinch' looking
aliens who storm all of the video game stores, movie stations and
toy stores, taking all of the movie makers, preachers, politicians, and
generals who promote war with them, put them in a stadium with guns and
all the ammunition they can use... The grinch looking aliens lock
the doors to see if they will use the weapons they promoted to get them
out.... but if they choose to negotiate instead then they would have to
promise to make war no more... but of course they will negotiate the
settlement and all is well... for a while... but the humans rebel and go
and nuke another planet....
The aliens invade earth again and find all the rebels who are still promoting
violence but this time they capture the same promoters of violence and
the promoter's children. They do the same thing with the children
that they did with the parents but this time they make the parents watch.... and when the children agree to
negotiate... they take the children away to another planet and show them a more
peaceable way... The parents get upset when their children are captured
and they attack the planet with the grinch looking aliens but this time the aliens just stand there
with white flags as the humans invade but the humans slaughter all of what they believe are
the aliens... The humans rejoice and a cheer rolls across their band of
rebels. They go out on the battlefield but a horrible wailing is heard
as the humans begin realizing that their children are in Grinch Suits much like the
Navi suits in Avatar and in the last scene shows a close up expression of the president, head
general and movie maker....
I agree. They should have gone with something other than the "good guys miraculously defeat bad guys" ending. The last half hour of this movie makes the first two hours seem weak.
The ending of the movie sure does look nice, though. Helicopters and explosions and mechanized suits and machine guns... and dragons! It's like every action movie ever made, rolled into one.
