I rarely visit this site anymore, but remember reading numerous posts in the past if anyone really recovers from candida and I felt it important to post, YES!
Anyone that knows my story, knows that I had severe candida that manifested in miserable hives for years. (10 years) Five years in, I found out I had serious candida so started on products. I've spent thousands of dollars on this, as many have. I know people don't like to hear that recovery takes years, but the plain truth is, it often does. By the time our bodies are screaming out for help, the imbalance has been going on for some time and will take time to heal.
Many have poo pooed the diet, saying it doesn't heal. It's not meant to "heal", it's meant to take the load off our systems and it's a good, healthy diet, better than most people consume. I've followed the diet, still do. I'm introducing new foods slowly and currently taking HUMAWORM. I do believe through all this I've developed food related disorders, meaning that I had to be hyperdiligent with what I put in my mouth and on my skin. Who wouldn't develop issues when even the tiniest bit of gluten, sugar etc caused raging hives?
Getting rid of parasites is key and in my case, it took several different kinds of products. After this round of HUMAWORM, I'll be in an even better spot.
There are 2 schools of thought regarding replacing intestinal flora. One says that you cannot do this while candida is present, because the candida just won't allow it. The other is that you MUST replace flora while still having candida. Initially, I followed the first school of though b/c I couldn't tolerate any form of probiotic. For the past 6-8 months, I've been making home made yogurt, culturing for 24 hours to remove lactose. When I eat it, I top it with scoops of Jarrow's l-glutatmine (to repair intestinal lining) and organic cinnamon. I think this has helped my intestines immensely as I had or still have leaky gut.
I recently have eaten foods that I would previously had a reaction to and have done well with them. However, I no longer want sugar, etc. Don't get me wrong, chocolate chip cookies will always be a weakness for me, but I am still a bit freaked out at returning to where I was and I now know there is little nutritional value in those type foods and my body doesn't want them. Coffee however, I have daily, with almond milk. I've started incorporating apples into my diet and am doing fine.
I am one who didn't think I would make it, seriously. So many times I wanted to give up and die. For months, half my brain was planning suicide while the other half was trying to talk myself out of it. No one could understand the misery of hives and how very isolating this condition is. But, I made it and now have a smile on my face and my personality is coming back. I know I will have my life back and am grateful.
I can't/won't even list all the things I took. Many, many antifungals, liver flushes, foods and supplements to boost the immune system. Antifungals gave me hives as well, so I was miserable either way. Sometimes I stopped for awhile, just couldn't take it, but knew that I had to continue if there was any hope of recovery. For the first 3 years, I couldn't wear a bra, it caused hives, could only take 1-2 showers per week, etc. It was bad. I would spend the day just trying NOT to lose my mind.
I did all this with only initial testing through Dr. Biamonte. Through that testing it was shown that I had severe candida. I have considered the past year of doing stool testing, but was discouraged by the many posts of those who had testing done, only to have inaccurate results. I had visible parasites and very likely ones I couldn't see. They wreak havoc and the toxins from them and the candida is almost too much to bear. I am doing well with HUMAWORM (couldn't tolerate at all 2.5 years ago) and am having only slight itching, which is normal.
I hope this is of help to someone who is thinking of giving up. I'm not "out of the woods" but can see it from here : )
You must know, I did not think this would ever happen. I am happy to answer any questions or tell of products I've used if anyone is interested. Most of the products I purchased through iherb (which is great). My code of VIR110 will get you $5 off your first order, if you chose to order from them.
There are so many different protocols for treatment and everyone is different. Just keep trying, don't give up, there IS hope.
Thanks for this message of encouragement, Abundant Health.
I also am making my own yoghurt, long fermented with VSL probiotics (recently added saccharomyces boulardi); it does work in the long run much better than probiotics in my opinion.
You are right with the correlation between parasites and candida; it cannot get better until you get rid of parasites. In my case, cryptosporidium is much lower now (on the way out and am still waiting to take the chemical drugs until I recover from this cold). I eat lots of raw garlic since I got the cold and you know, it made the last candida symptoms go away like magic - the "toxins" leaking in the skin like itchy dust. I AM FREE OF THIS FOR SEVERAL DAYS NOW!!! Yahoo.
And now like you, am going to start healing leaky gut.
The chelation of heavy metals too is working - actually immunity came back and is fighting strong against this cold I got. Normally my body didn't fight at all, virus would just invade the lungs and stay there for months and the body was not even producing reactions to get rid of it - phlegm, cough, etc.
This return of my immunity is really due to the heavy metals leaving my system I think.
Also, too bad you couldn't make it to the SCNM - they are so great. The whole process is SOOOO healing - students really taking care of me; everybody fighting to get me better.
I get hydrotherapy treatments now; these are designed to boost immunity and stimulate detox processes. They're cleaning up my liver like magic too! The therapists apply very hot wet towels, let the body warm up, then very cold towel, let tbe body warm it up to stimulate white blood cell production. In the meantime too they put electrodes on the back and the liver, and the currents stimulate and massage internally the abdominal organs. All the while you are wrapped in a coccoon of wool and listening to soft music.
I didnt think much of the procedure at first, but it is really really bringing my vitality back! Circulating energy, and making me much stronger! I used to lie in bed all day and now my energy levels (well before this cold) were up to a 9/10.
And listen, at 25$ a treatment you can't beat that!
Isn't it wonderful to eat more normally? I also am having breads, rice, nothing wild but a variety. The body is so thankful...
Its amazing to return to life slowly - all last year, I was in shock because I was convinced I was going to die - didn't see any way to get better and frankly also wanted to kill myself. But this year, I am in shock because it looks like am going to live after all. I may even be better than before who knows.
Thanks for your encouragements and lets pray it all continues!
Thanks nonmoi, I'm glad the college is helping you. I've had such disappointing experiences with doctors, I've just been going it on my own and due to little work the past 2 years, any amount of $ is alot right now.
Glad you found them and that they are helping, sounds great!
im glad your doing better man you've been here aslong as i have and its good to hear people are doing better.
on the whole if it take years of straight edge, no food, no alcohol, no enjoying life i will just punt myself in, its a pointless strict life whilst the others enjoy themselves enjoying normaility.
Maybe i do need anti-depressants. sorry to bring pessimism to your thread like i say im glad your feeling better dude.
So glad you are doing better sickofhives. I remember so well how you have struggled. I do agree with you completely about the diet. If you have a severe candida problems the diet is crucial, even in the past when I have "recovered" relapsing on the diet for any length of time has simply causes the candida to rage once again. I have accepted that my healthy diet is for life and if I want to get well and stay well its a small price to pay. Stay well and good luck.
What kind of diet do you want to keep for life??? I agree it isn't good idea to come back to a junk diet but I also don't see right and healthy to be in a anticandida diet for life. An smart diet without tons of sugar, refined carbohydrates and sweets is ok but still you have fruits, yogurts, no sugar add ice creams, and low carbohydrates products. To be the rest of my life eating proteins and vegetables don't make any sense for me and is not healthy either.
I have never done a strict anticandida diet. I dont cut out all carbs like they recommend. I eat a sensible healthy diet not a starvation diet. I have in the past recovered whilst still eating carbs (potatoes included). What I meant was I can never go back to eating junk foods or processed foods and I am happy to stay on a healthy diet for the rest of my life if it means I can get well...and stay well.
lady hows it going? i was actually thinking about you the other night and was going to PM to see how your doing and ask a question. I know you have healed from this before what did you do to cure it those times?
Hi scarface! Hope you are doing ok? I am doing a little better than I was thanks....just slowly chipping away at the dysbiosis/candida/liver/adrenals....you know what I mean.
I got better before by seeing this man http://www.chealth.co.uk/index.htm
Not promoting him in anyway I have no connections. He had some pretty high tech equipment that could detect all kinds of abnormalities organ weakness and imbalances. He put me on the road to recovery but intially I felt worse (you know the worse to get better senario). I plan to go back at some point. After treatments I was better than I had ever been but it came back as you may remember through terrible stress and not sticking to a good healthy diet. Have a read of his web page and you can private message me anytime - be nice to hear from you.
Thanks everyone. I should point out, that it's still a daily battle, just yesterday I had hives again (and a few tears). I figured out it was the brand of coffee I had. For SOME reason, that brand gives me hives and I had a bit of it left in the fridge and forgot it was THAT coffee. (only thing I can figure is that there is mold on the coffee? I dunno)
Anyway, I never had a white coated tongue, it wasn't bright pink, but pale pink. I can't point to 1 thing that was most important, it all has to be addressed. If I had just eaten the yogurt initially, it wouldn't have addressed the parasites or candida. It can only help once you've knocked down the levels of candida.
Off to have some yerba mate tea, that has helped too. I do hope I continue to improve along with everyone else.
