No, candida is YEAST, a fungus, which is why the anti candida diet involves removing everything in your diet containing yeast of anything fermented. This is also why an MD (unless they are very stupid) will not try and kill candida with antibiotics, but will use Nystatin (an anti-fungal)instead of doxycycline or flagyl (which are antibiotics).
Wild yeast naturally lives inside of us. It is one of many things that lives with our bodies. A healthy person cannot have candida overgrowth because the body holds it in check. Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to be a healthy person in our current physical situation...and the extreme availability of high Sugar
diets makes this worse.
SUGAR feeds candida, which is why candid overgrowth is so common in the industrialised world. As commercial food manufacturing became the normal way for people to get food, the quality of the food dropped and as it did not taste very good without any real nutrition, the manufacturers added in lots of sugar balanced with some salt) to try and fool our tongues into thinking it was good food.
Nutrition level in food also dropped because the new methods of farming tend to kill off the microbes that plants need in order to be healthy, as well as stripping off the minerals from the soil. Modern farming places no importance on healthy soil.
On the other hand, for most of human history (a few million years) our only sweet foods were fruits (although with a proper natural diet and a working sense of taste, you can taste the sweetness in veggies as well).
However the creation of the trade triangle of "slavery, sugarcane and rum", put refined sugar on the market as easily obtainable. Instead of the rare treat of honey being a part of our diets, people bought sugar by the 50 pound bag as a staple food. Most of the sugar from the slavery/cane/sugar trade triangle went into making rum, but that left a lot of refined sugar for average people as well.
After all, sugar made it easier to get bread to rise quickly. It made it less costly to make sweet treats. However, refined sugar was still rather uncommon in large quantities in an average diet until large scale manufacturing of food became big business (not until the 20th century). You can't make nutritious food in a factory as easily as you can make "bad for you" food.
In this era the average western person eats between 120 and 130 pounds
of sugar every year....which feeds the yeast that naturally lives inside of us. And none of us western city folk are healthy enough too keep candida at bay anymore - because we are all being poisoned all the time.
If you couple high sugar diets, with poisoned unhealthy people and with food that has no nutrition - and you try and grow plants in soil that is extremely mineral depleated & is lacking in healthy life forms...with hundreds of thousands of unregulated dangerous man made substances in EVERYTHING we use (even our clothing and our medicines) It causes trouble.
