I just got through talking to a friend and he told me that high sodium intake effects you blood sugar and makes it high. Is this true?
I have never heard of any connection between blood sugar and salt intake.
Is it bad for diabetics?
The concern of salt intake with diabetics is on the blood pressure. Type 2 diabetes accounts for about 95% of diabetes. In the early stages of type 2 diabetes the pancreas actually kicks out too much insulin. This excess insulin leads to constriction of the blood vessels causing the blood pressure to rise. The concern is that the sodium will lead to a further rise in blood pressure if the person is sodium sensitive.
The reason i ask is because im a salta-holic and just found out that i have diabetes and also suffer from abdominal bloating/distention.
The bloating and digestive problems would be due to a lack of stomach acid. This leads to fermentation in the stomach, especially if yeast makes it in to the stomach. I have numerous posts on here about building up the stomach acid.
