if EC is a result of a hypersensitivity to bacteria/fungus in the mouth, a liquid bandage will shield the lips.
I don't believe it's primarily a bacterial or fungal infection. I've tried all sort of anti-everything topicals in the past, and, no one I've ever made out with has gotten EC.
It may be a secondary exacerbating factor - infection - but I personally don't believe it's the main problem. (And I've had two biopsies from the Mayo Clinic taken.)

Whatever is causing this people. The lips will never heal unless they can obtain the moisture from within our body. It must be something to do with sebaceous glands which allow this to happen. Fordyce's Spots are extremely common on here. These are misplaced / blocked sebaceous glands. Find something to unblock the pores and we'll have found something to help sort this out.
I've read some absolutely hilarious things on here after returning to read a week or two ago. Someone was pecked on the head by a bird in their childhood and this caused EC!?!
Some people on here have let this condition drive them insane.
Find some topical creams which help, peel when required after the lips have been soaked well and get out and live life. I wasted 18 months of my life worrying about this condition before I realised people hardly notice it if I manage it correctly.
I appreciate everyone who throws out similarities of people they know with EC. I do not have sebaceous glands so it is not what is causing my EC. I think people need to reread posts because I read the same posts, which people did not say it was the cause or cure of EC. They just were trying to find similarities. People jump to conclusions about posts sometimes.
Hey mate, I don't know how big your area of peeling is, but have you tried the Compeed patches yet? I think hydrocolloid is the only kind of "bandage" that might work. I'm goin to look for it. Cheers.
I tried out compeed cold sore patches on the triangle area of my upper lip (posted a thread a while ago). I used to apply the patch before bed and remove it in the morning. While I did this, that part of my lip didn't peel or overgrow at all, it was 100% normal. However after not using the patch for a night or two the peeling came back. Even so, I was amazed at how the patches basically cured that area of my lips while I was using them. I didn't use them over a prolonged period so maybe the skin can be 'trained' to return to its previous state. Just a thought.....
Jasman How many nights did u try it for? Have you got a website for the patch? Sounds quite promising if a bigger one is available. I would like to try it.
I can't remember how many nights exactly, at least 5. It worked immediately after the first night though. Just type compeed cold sore patch into google and loads of links will come up. It looks like this -
It's worth trying to be honest, just make sure you are ultra careful when handling the patches. Each patch is really sticky and can easily fold into itself. Oh and use it on a fresh peel, day 1.
Jasman, does it dissolve after a few hours or do you have to peel it off? and if so does it hurt or peel the skin off when you do take it off?
i wish i could try this! as far as i know its only sold in the UK and i even went on the website and doesnt ship to the US. anyone know where i can find it in the US?
It's an invisible patch but doesn't dissolve, you have to peel it off. I'd usually put the patch on at night, then peel it off in the morning. Most, if not all of the skin growth happens at night so that was probably the most effective method to use.

I tried a bandage on my lips overnight with moisturizer underneath. It really helped my lips become better moisturized. Could it be the bandage makes the moisturizer absorb or stay on more?
