I have vaginal irritation for the 1st time in my life. I have been through a lot in the past year as far as parasite cleanses, Colon Cleanses , supplements, probiotics, you name it, I've done it. Symtoms are much less than a year ago, that's for sure, but have stuggled with yeast. Long story short, Was on a month of antifungal, along with other RX's. Off that, now on AGrisept L (GSE extract, with other rinds) and Morinda supreme. (Noni) (they are antiparisitic, broad spectrum antimicrobial,) (Dr. Jeff McComb's forum) Very gentle.
When I went to my gyno for this irritation, meaning, itch, slight burn, no discharge but can have discharge. (a number of times!!) Same thing comes up. No yeast, no infection, everything is normal.
So what is wrong???? I don't know. I've tried putting a probiotic (lactobicillius) capsule up there, I've tried AZO yeast, no change. I've been doing witch hazel wipes, they help. A & D ointment. helps a little. My feeling is that my bacteria is off somehow. Have to rebalance the area, but don't know how. I don't know who to go to for help. It's uncomfortable. I have corizone suppositorys' but don't want to use them (did last night though)
you may want to try Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri. This probiotic blend is supposed to have strains that are good for vaginal bacterial balance. They're available in the refridgerated section of most healthfood stores.
Are you certain it's not a UTI? I'd have to agree with above post on the Reuteri - simply because, along with Kyo 9, I have NEVER had a vaginal yeast infection, yet tested positive with some pretty nasty and rare strains of Aspergillus (flavus), Candida (krusei), three other "mold" - according to lab cultures (respiratory - though pretty certain it's beyond the resp tract at this point).
Kefir is excellent also. Dr. Ohihira (sp) probiotics are pretty good also. Over 11 strains, and very stable.
If all else is failing, and you've cycled through all the options, you may want to take a look at diet. Try eliminating all grains for a few weeks to a month and see what happens.
No, it's definately not a UTI. I am not allergic to anything, and did eliminate grains at the beginning of this diet.
I took the Renew Life Women's Critical vaginal support probiotics at one time. May have to go back on that. It's got 50 billion and is an excellent product. Very expensive though. I drink kefir, but took a break from it. There is one thing where you can get to much lactobicillus which causes vaginitus too. So I stopped with the probiotics for a while thinking I could have that. Just totally confused.
This is a long shot, but could it be something like a toilet paper allergy? You have said you have no allergies, but I know someone who resolved similar issues to yours (who also had no obvious allergies) by changing to a hypoallergenic unbleached toilet paper brand.
My only other thoughts which may not be useful, are have you changed your type of soap or quality of water lately?
Gibby,
I am a man but I know what you have and time will tell.
You have the red form of candida or an intracellular candidiasis (vaginitis) The medical term to define that is Chronic Atrophic Erytomathous Candidiasis. It is very common in women after a latent yeast infection. This type of infection produces redness and burning sensation in the vulvar area. When you have a latent vaginal infection, and treat it with antifungals, candida never die at all but it penetrates deep in the tissues where it hides from the immune system and the antifungals. When it is in the cells, it metabolizes enzymes and waste products which are responsible for the symptoms you feel. In fact, it is a "chronic dormant infection" but giving you severe discomfort. It can be cured but you need a proper treatment with long term antifungals. Remember, most oral antifungal are fungistatic in the doses you can tolerate, so to get fungicidal effects, you need to extend the doses for months and probably a little bit higher than the normal doses. A drug combination may act fungicidal for short time. To understand what you have better, you should look at the work of Dr. Marjorie Crandall. One time you read a professional explanation and her material, you will be sure you are on the right track. I am sure this is your problem because I have advised many women in my candida yahoo group about the same situation, and they have found the answer. Be aware this condition is unknown for most medical Drs, and you need to go straight where the help is. The last girl I advised it in my yahoo group, a 28 y/o girl, email me almost every day to thanks me because she was suffering and looking for answers for years without to get a solution. Now, she is almost symptoms free. She got a direct phone consultation with Dr. Crandall. I hope you don't suffer for long.
Jorge.
You have a special yahoo group? Did you start it yourself? I'll have to check it out. Dvorge, I went to a very special doctor who specializes in yeast and gives out more RX's than any other doctor in the state (CT). She is confident in treating me. She put me on Ketoconazole 200 mgs for a month. (1 daily) With a refill. I didn't refill it and am scared because someone on the other forum scared the crap out of me. They told me if I don't go on antifungals for long term, I'll produce super yeast comming back 100 times stronger. (My old ND told me I probably already have superyeast because I was on SF722 for 2 months, and treating vaginal yeast and on the extreme diet for months and months.) Now, besides that, this new doctor of mine said this was a good drug because you don't become resistant to it. It reaches the gut. I was on SAT (liver support) the whole time because I was afraid it would be toxic to take for a month. I took this drug, not because of vaginal yeast at the time, but because my metametrix test said +3 yeast in the gut, unkown taxonomy both yeast and parasites. I will look into this, but let me remind you, I have been to the gyno 3 times since Januaray with vaginal itch, and all times he's said, yeast is gone, no sign of it, culture normal. He said I have "Desquamative Vaginitus" well what is that?? When the lining of the vagina sheds its cells causeing itch, and discharge. Not much known for it or why. He just gave me the cortizone suppository's to alleviate symtoms. I told him I would probably be making trips back to check if I can't tell the difference. I will look into what you said much further. Do you think that I will kill my liver being on the RX's for months?? I have a healthy liver and overall healthy body, not nearly as sick as a lot on here. Thanks for your post. I will probably have many more questions for you.
Gibby
Hi Jorge, Well, that is exciting that you know what is wrong with Gibby! I know you from the Stoll board.
I was on tetracycline for years, for my rosacea. And I was told to premedicate for teeth cleanings with amoxyicillin. The usual bladder infections, vaginal yeast infections, a couple of tooth extractions--you get the picture! Only 1 of those antibiotics prescriptions was I advised to take probiotics!
At this point, I cannot afford Marjorie Crandall, although I'd love to do a phone consultation. Do you have any words of wisdom, any suggestions that may be of help to me? I started the anti-candida diet and was on it for about 5 weeks when I came down with a bout of diarrhea from the Chinese herbs that I was given. So I aborted the anti-candida diet and did an anti-diarrheal diet to try to get the diarrhea under control. It's still not totally under control, but I'm making progress by repopulating the gut flora with probiotics. Should I be taking an antifungal? How will I know that I'm done with this diet and can eat normally? Thanks, Jorge!
Oh Yeah, I love Walt's bulletin board and I own his books. I have been asking things to Walt and I think he is a great Holistic MD. Since I am not a MD but a sufferer who wants to help, buy Dr Crandall's packet and I am sure most ,if not all, the answers to your questions will be there. Gibby, please, research deep the intracellular candidiasis topic and you are going to find why vaginal swaps don't show anything. Ketoconazole isn't the ideal drug to treat it long term. People who need to take antifungals for long time should monitor their liver function every month. Gibby, I own several candida books but nothing compare with Dr. Crandall's packet. So, spending those $30 worth every penny. By the way, She got a publisher and her packet will become a book in two years. I have been in contact with her by emails.
Jorge.
might want to try the suppositries on the modern herbalist.com I think there is more than one kind, i would personally order these if I was having trouble there.
I will really look into that. I hate to spend hundreds of $$ now on another doctor. The oone I'm going to is a yeast specialist. But of course, Dr. Crandell sounds highly specialized. There is another doctor I found in Tarrytown NY. I almost went to her, but decided to stay local because of the trips back and forth. This other doctor is infectious disease, but yeast/mold/fungus specialist as well. As with any of these doctors, they are like 450 for the 1st visit. I will read Crandells websight and get that packet. The thing is, I haven't had specific tests for candida. The general one on the blood test showed I didn't have the candida antibody or something like that. I guess there are much more specific tests to order.
Gibby,
Dr. Crandall's packet is around $30.00 and a half hour with her by phone is only $30.00. I am giving you the best I know. Buy the packet, read it, and after that, you will know what to do with your candida. I will be happy to share with you anything after you be well informed. Please, stop suffering and do what you need to do. By the way, I don't own any candida group but I belong to a yahoo group better than Bee's group. There are two naturopath drs posting day by day.
Jorge.
Yes, I want to know the yahoo group your talking about. I will look into the packet and thanks for that. You know, I tried putting cocunut oil in the vaginal area and it has worked like a charm. I feel completely normal. Could it be stopping the itch, killing the underlying candida, and stopping the burning? Don't know, but am keeping this up for now.
I would like to know the yahoo candida group you belong to. Personally, I found Bee's advice to be somewhat misguided. I attempted her extremely restrictive diet and found myself constipated like I'd never been before. I really question the soundness of most of these candida diets as, like all low-carb diets, they tend to make people constipated. So on the one hand, you're MAYBE (???) getting rid of the candida; on the other, you're backing up your system. One defeats the other. It seems to me that most candida could be controlled with parasite cleanses, and that once you get the candida population under control, you could introduce plenty of beneficial probiotics to keep that way. This is my own personal opinion.
