I wish I was on maintenance. Even though I've been taking iodine for a couple of years, I'm not sure I was absorbing it very well for quite a while. Apparently I'm one of the ones that really needed salt for the sodium-iodide symporters, plus ATP cofactors for organification. I already had the vitamin C covered. Once those got on target, it felt as though more of the iodine was being used. Whenever I do a trial reduction, my body complains. So, at least for a while longer, I'll be on at least a couple hundred milligrams.
food for thought:
When I saw Brownstein talk 2 years ago he said he took 50mg of Iodine for 4 years before his high level of bromide output dropped. He has the lab equipment for testing in his office so he was monitoring regularly.....
He also said when he goes below 50mg he doesn't feel as good and when he goes above 50mg he doesn't notice a difference. So he stays at 50mg.
I am only 6 months in so I can't comment from personal experience yet.
My bromide was high when I tested in February. So I am waiting for my new test results.
Thanks for posting that reminder about Dr. Brownstein. It's really easy for me to get carried away, when my own body's drive seems to be for higher amounts than 50 mg. It's just not necessary for everybody.
Hm, well since I live in the US where the water is fluoridated it makes sense to take more than 12.5mg which is the amount the organs need, yet not what may be needed to eliminate fluoride, bromide etc which enter our bodies everyday.
I went down to 25mg and then 12.5mg for the past two weeks or so from taking 100mg for about two years, and last couple days I felt my body desired more again. I took 50mg today and just saw Dr. Brownsteins experience who also takes that amount daily. Thanks for posting this.
