I’m a little concerned with my new blood results that I recently got back. I have high testosterone, my estrogen was really high and progesterone is on the high end as well. I also have a hypothyroid.
Has anybody ever had high progesterone and estrogen at the same time? Does anybody know how this can happen and how it can be balanced out?
With hypothyroid, sometimes adrenal fatigue is a factor too. With adrenal fatigue, especially in the early stages, in an attempt to compensate for a faltering thyroid, the adrenal glands increase production of cortisol and dhea rises. Dhea is the building block for estrogen and testosterone. The adrenals also produce pregnenolone. If you have cystic ovaries, isn't that going to cause an over production of hormones too? Wacked-out thyroid and stressed adrenals is going to cause your sex hormones to be wacked out too. Once you get your thyroid supported, (check out http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com)
address your adrenal fatigue AND start Iodine supplementation (check out the iodine supplementation board here too) your sex hormones should normalize and the cysts should resolve. PCOS is a symptom of iodine deficiency as is hypothyroidism.
I dont have cystic ovaries yet(thank God), but do have high levels of testosterone. I have been supplementing myself with iodine.
I have also been trying to stick to a low carb diet for insulin resistance. I dont know how estrogen can be balanced out when progesterone is high and i have no idea why my body is producing high progesterone. I have been feeling ill for 7 years now, having my thyroid misdiagnosed by doctors, Im worried my body is just not going to be able to get back to normal, things just seem to be getting worse. I will be having these retested again.
Does anybody have any explanation why my progesterone and estrogen are both high? I’ve tried googling for info but cant find anything.
I know I have high cortisol and dhea levels. And I've tried lots of supplements (magnesium, b vitamins, ginseng fish oiletc) herbal, homeopathy. Nothing seems to help these levels at all, even though I try to stay relaxed and positive as much as I can.
I always thought that if my female homones and thyroid got better and into balance, than the adrenals would get better as well.
One doctor who saw a few of my older saliva tests and thyroid assume that it was low progesterone estrogen dominance and perscribed to be progesterone cream, which has made no difference to my health. I did have some tests prior to taking the progesterone, when they came back with both progesterone and estrogen high I stoped taking the progesterone cream, Im going to have them retested but now Im worried that they're both going to be sky high. im not sure what i have to be on to put my female hormones back in balance.
All my blood wrk was done on the 21st day of my menstural cycle. I just feel like it has to be something else, could sometime be going on in my liver that can cause both estrogen and progesterone to be high? I dont want to have to see an endocrinologist, and dont want to go on any medications.
Actually, you need to work on the adrenals, then the thyroid and then the sex hormones according to one of the moderators on the natural thyroid hormone adrenal group on yahoo.
Phosphydityl serine (seriphos by interplexus is a good brand and less expensive than plain other brands of PS), zinc and holy basil all lower cortisol levels. If you have digestive issues, in addition to AF (most of us do) come on over to the Adrenal Fatigue forum here on curezone. Taking probiotics and prebiotics (inulin) can help. Taking DIM can help lower estrogen levels.
