Feedback please? Sorry for the long post :(
I first noticed a white spot on the side of my tongue. Around that time I had been taking some antibiotics for a UTI. I was hardly ever sick only some sore throats when my BF wanted to sleep with the ceiling fan on high but they wouldn't last long. I was and still is a smoker (cigs)and I drank heavily, except during that time I had slowed down and was under a lot of stress with work, school, and family. At work I would lick my lips a lot and use chapstick. I would sometimes put my Topical corticosteroid on my lips (I've used it for many years because as a child I have always had a facial and scalp rash). A year later the white had spread to my cheeks (it looks like a white film) at that time I was under a lot of stress because my boyfriend and mother died in the same year and I began smoking and drinking heavily again. Around the time my mother passed I was at the hospital and went to use the bathroom (#2) and it was as if I was constipated and the toilet looked like a bowl of blood. That is the time when I noticed the constipation in my life (before if I had it I didn't notice because I was always drinking). After that I had a spell to come over me where I was on the verge of fainting, nausea, and diarrhea and that happened once again in 2008. In 2005 & 2006 I was having problems breathing and I stayed fatigue terribly. Went to the hospital (2006) and they ran tests (which ones not sure) they took an x-ray too and they came back and said everything was fine but just before I left they came in and said that they found a goiter. They referred me to a surgeon. So from the hospital to the surgeon to surgery. Never was I told anything or reason. Since then my hair had stopped falling out as bad but I was still gaining weight. Then once again (2008), my hair had gotten worse (brittle and falling out); the weight gain, high blood pressure, severe shoulder pains, legs and feet pains, and face and scalp rash. I have gone to the doctors and they say that my thyroid levels are normal. Could this be a thyroid problem or candida? Here are the results of my test back in March -
Back around March of this year I decided to go and see the doctor that had removed a goiter in 2006. This past Feb. I had been feeling really crappy - tired a lot, weight slowly was increasing, constipated (sometimes it is so unbearable), and hair falling out terribly. Here are the labs:
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
Sodium 139
Potassium 3.4 (low)
Chloride 103
Bicarbonate 26
Anion Gap 13
Glucose 114 (high)
BUN 9
Creatinine .79
eGFR >60
eGFR African American >60
Calcium 8.9
Albumin 4.3
Total Protein 7.5
Alk Phos 68
Bilirubin Total .3
AST (SGOT) 18
ALT (SGPT) 19
TSH with REFLEX FREE T4
TSH 3.06
Then while I was waiting to be seen by an endo, in which I went 9/2/2010 (yes, it took 3 months to get in). The results just came back last week and they are:
Free T4 1.22
TSH, high sensitivity 2.309
I took a glimpse of my chart and right after my surgery my TSH was 2.0
Now I was never put on meds and they say that I am fine. Can anyone shed some light. Could my untreated thyroid be the cause of the white film in my mouth? Also could it be causing my thyroid to fluctuate? I was also told back in 2007 that the cartilage was wearing thin in my knees and I retains a lot of fluid on them and sometimes my ankles and feet; my heart palps at times. Back when my TSH was 3.06 I was even having very bad brain fog, nausea, constipation, heartburn, confusion, speech problems, and the so on on... But has anyone else experienced this? I was reading where the weather can affect the way you feel too. One more question, could all these symptoms be related to being put on birth control to dissolve a cysts on my ovaries as a child. I figured that as a child and young adult, that the hot flashes were all related. Sorry for the long post :(
You need to see a Naturopath if you can. Or an enlightened MD. (Most don't believe in this and won't diagnose it). Your symptoms sound consistent w/ Candidiasis. Constipation is a sure sign of Dysbiosis. And you have tons of risk factors, starting with the Hormone treatment as a child.
Candida is fully capable of screwing up your Thyroid function.
A Naturopath can orient you and start educating you on this disease. There's a lot you need to learn and a lot of lifestyle changes you'll need to make. It's gonna seem overwhelming, and it takes a while for it all to sink in.
In the mean time, that's really high Blood Sugar. You should look into the Candida diet, Probiotics, Enzymes, Natural Antifungals, and Stress Reduction.
Thanks TonyOrlando :)
I have already started doing some research on Dysbiosis. I was thinking that because my father's sister had a goiter that it may have been inherited and my mother went into early menopause that I was the chosen one to go through all of the many problems that I am having and maybe so. But all I know is that I am tired of the problems. I was also thinking that because I had a root canal gone bad and a cracked up tooth that the dentist attempted to get out but couldn't and so I was scared of dentists but I have been trying to get them repaired now. I also asked the hygentist what it could be and she said that it was nothing to worry about. Again thanks for the reply. Every time I search the topic it comes back that it is a sign of diabetes, HIV, or an autoimmune disease and that freaked me out and yes my glucose is high but the doctor was not concerned. I have been to the hospital and many doctors and they all seem to think that I am crazy, to where now my family thinks that I am crazy. So again thank you for your reply.
Yeah, MD's are going to treat you like you're mentally ill. That's how they approach these sort of "syndrome" diseases. They can't figure it out, so you must be crazy.
A Naturopath will take you seriously.
Dysbiosis/Candida screws up your immune system and fills you with toxins that do alter you mentally. Try not to internalize that. It will go away.
Get those teeth fixed too. That's a dangerous situation/opening for infection.
With some multi-strain probiotics and some anti-candida enzymes, such as candex, you can get well enough, and think clearly enough to work your way through this. And your family will think you're less crazy :)
I have a health food store that has candida treatment, I was just skeptical because I tried a total body flush and it did not work. I will have to look into finding a Naturopath. And those teeth, that root canal that the dentist had done and did not last, I had it removed but I did not know when I went to the oral surgeon, to have the broken tooth taken out (where another dentist could not get it out and left it in my mouth, it stayed that way for 2 or 3 years until I couldn't take the pain anymore; I had to get over the fright). Now I have been going back to remove the silver and get some filled. You mentioned toxins, I can remember when my mother was passing away, I was told that her liver was letting off toxins and that was why she was confused, the word sounded like ammonia. Thanks again.
I have just returned from an INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE doctor yesterday. I would like to say yes to all your question. The thing is, when we have all the symptoms, the possible cause would be several issues: candida (in category of gut problem), thyroid, toxic, birth control pill (in category of estrogen problem), and low blood sugar. One important thing to remember is that a person may have 1 cause and affect others or several causes and affect others. So how do you know which is your MAJOR cause or causes(and which priority to handle first)?
I would suggest you to find knowledgable practitioner who can check for you what is your cause. For example: The thyroid test you performed is insufficient.I had the similar experience. I went to endocrinologist, got my TSH & Free T4 tested and I was declared normal (despite all the troubling symptoms.) I will get more thorough hormonal test this Monday with my new doctor. For more information about the right thyroid test, you can check this link:
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have and will continue to search for a knowledgeable practitioner. I do agree that the root or main cause of the chain reactions that is going on with me. It has been a very frustrating road that I have been on. Good luck on Monday! I wish you the best; I hope they can find out what is your main cause of your problems. If they would only listen!
