I had sibo just after an infection then it went away.
I remember at that time tzking garlic 1 hour after meals.
At that time I didn't drink milk or fruits like I do now...;so I don't know what s going on exactly.
I believe I have a problem with yeast in bread with caused the relapse but the fact that I had relapse mean that sibo wasn't totally eliminated.
Grains are usually bashed but maybe they are less problematic than foods that contains a certain amount of simple sugar....I don't know.
I did several time Liver Flush with olive oil and apple juice or even nothing else or sometimes with water...;but I didn't had the bloating and abdominal extension at the time, still I had the gut noise " gloo, gloo" after eating that probaby means sibo was still ther but not eradicated.

eh..;i had it last years I was only eating bread , cheees ( low in lactose ) and meat and then i hour later garlic....
and it worked...
so maybe we have to do the same regimen here but the problem is my stomach is inflammed and I don't know if garlic would damage the lining more....
Logically I would think it would, I mean put garlic in your skin and you see it is harsh but I 'm wondering it things are different when garlic is "processe" by stomach acid...
maybe it makes things different but you would have to eat in good proportion before.
I don't remember if I took at the time fermented milk, but still cheese is fermented so maybe it helped....
Fiber and kefir have been proposed here.
I forgot 2 days ago I drank about 170 ml of olive oil throughout the day , then I had a meal and my stomach was buning.....bile acid I guess...
I think the bowels need to be cleansed I think about salt flush but again I m afraid it would irritate the stomach creating other problem later...
ashleyann00
I ' ve done liver flush, I 'm unsure about its utility, I don't know, it acts as a laxative sort of, the fat causes peristaltis and then you get watery bowel movements....
I did saw some tubular things the first time.
If you feel weak, might be not the right time to do that, but I 'm just saying, somebody else can maybe add something here.
If you lost wheight you need to eat, you need to recover.
Sometimes you're not hungry but when you put something in your mouth your appetite comes back.
Can I ask you if you have some constipation ?
Because I have a bit.
I mean maybe the sibo is blocking the way or something.
I think im going to stay away from the Liver Flush for now.I do have the same symptoms as you MrsLivia down to a T.The burnign is terrible...and its there no matter what i eat.Do you think its possible you and i may have an ulcer or something in the small bowel? I know if you have sibo for a long period of time,it can cause serious problems.I had extremely bad constipation befor getting really ill.I only had bm 2 times a week.since getting sick 4 months ago things are basically alternating between diarehea and constipation.I have terrible stomach cramps sometimes, but the burning sensation is the worst. With sibo if you have it for a long time it causes malabsorbtion(which i have)and vitamin and mineral defficiancies(i think i have this too).I sometimes get all lightheaded with a dizzy faint feeling.Same feeling you would get if your blood sugar was low.Heat/humidity make it worse for me bc i sweat more i guess.Good thing I live in New England and its cold now!Im goign on xifaxan for 2 weeks.I hate to take antibiotics but I can not get rid of this on my own...i have tried so many natural things.Heres the funny thing: I did a salt water flush before colonoscopy-felt better for almost a week then symptoms returned.I am now on a cleanse that is definately helpign control my symptoms. When i skipped it for 2 days..diarreha big time.
My GI doc says sibo is usually caused by an underlaying disease. We have not found anything else wrong with me except for the sibo.My question for you/or anyone else is could i have gotten this from motility issues?(not going bm enough)Geesh this is confusing.
I read mobility issues can cause sibo.
This is a bit complex because sometimes other things could cause sibo like symptoms and yet it is not, but if your doc diagnosed it...
Well, I learned that an irritated stomach lining could lead to fat malaborption or lead to get bacterias where they don't have to be.
Sometimes, despites antibiotic there is a relapse because the underlying causes have not been treated sometimes it works ....
In my case I had and infection with bad cooked re meat 5 months ago and then I had bloating and abdominal distension for a while... I ate alots of fiber foods ( figs, prunes etc )but I believe I overdid it with garlic, ginger, then I tried alcohol once before the infection I had back pain and did one week of ibuprofen, aspirin....etc....
I completely screw my stomach lining with the time....
So I believ the first thing to do is to repair the lining stomach so it can produce enought acid to eliminate posible bacterias......
An inflammed stomach can give sibo like symptoms even though there is no sibo......
Avoid any irritating substance......just gentle food....
don't avoid carbs.....
Once I had my stomach burning and acid to the throat, I tried bananas (it has prebiotic compounds) and cottage cheese ( probiotic) ....the next day I felt healed.....
I think yeast containg product sort of irriate my stomach....so u may watch this ...
niacin, glutamin, yogurt, easy food to digest.....
Take some rest too....and allow time for recovery.
The symptoms u described, fatigue, dizziones, sweating, ill state are the symptoms I got 5 months just after the infection........then it sort of coame back a bit....then got fine...
it looked like your body is fighting something....unless you may have some nutrient deficiency...
Its hard to say...I 'm just giving information so you may be able to connect the dots...
Interestingly enough i had a c section in march.I was put on tylox for about 2 weeks...wonder if this has something ot do with it...or like you said maybe i had a virus or infection. As far as my stomach goes I did have an ultrasound and ct scan, and endoscopy, neither showed inflammation..but who knows i guess.I havent noticed any foods that really make me feel worse-except large amounts of sugary foods.
I am taking glutamine and digestive enzymes for my stomach now.
Do you know anything about xifaxan? This is the proposed drug for me to take to get rid of the sibo.
well maybe the tylox has to do with it....
Maybe your stoamch have been slightly irritated or damaged making you prone to sibo or other infection....
That maybe the cause...
I don't know anythinh about the drug you citing here as I avoid them as muchh as I can ....I believe an overuse of ibuprofen and paracetamol aspirion prior infection mad me less likely to recover promptly....
I dont trust drugs...
But now....you decide if it is right for you or not...
By the way I believe sibo does not exist....all the syptoms we have are stommach damaged related..
But again thats tricky for me to tell you if it is right or good for you to take it.
If all the syptoms we listed are damaged stomach lining related then does the rifamax thing is damaging to the stomach as well ?
It seems that yes from what I know.....
Now if you have to take it; make sure you have somthing in your stomach before.
I had a breath test that diagnosed the bacterial overgrowth.I sometimes get a pressure burning feeling at the bottom of sternum...I dont know why.The xifaxan acts only within the intestine...so if i were to try anything it would be that. What are doing/takeing to heal your gut? What has worked for you in the past?
ELeven months a go, I felt sick, chills fever, pressure under my rib cage, sometime a little discomfort lower right quadrant, sometimes a little pressure on the right side. First I went to ER
They did full blood work all the tests, normal
endoscopy, colonscopy So the next stop chinese medicine and ND diagnosed with SiBO. At this time a new symptoms appears rash all along my jawline and cheeks .
Medication all natural seemed to help this is what helped me the most 1 pepperment tablet every 4 hours and cilantro juice, take it easy with the cilantro it is a chelater of heavy metal but it got rid of my rash n.
Then my family dr insisted on barium swallow I took the barium swallow with next day felt like I was going into cardiac arrest. I couldn't breathe, I was dizzy, sweating , my heart was racing. Well they think the MAYBE they gave me too much barium at the radiologist. The other symptoms They gave me some allergy relief meds,.
My cousin is a dr he said he thought I was having an allergic reaction to barium! So anyhow I have to first work through the allergic reaction before I get back on my regime for SIBO. Went to the ER everything normal. I read that barium can get stuck in your appendix I wonder if little by little it is being released.
Curing SIBO is a long and difficult journey. I have put together some information on how I was able to cure my SIBO and IBS. Note: this is what worked for me, consult with your doctor before trying anything in this post.
I struggled with abdominal pain and bloating for years. I have had colonoscopies, CT scans, upper endoscopies, ultrasounds, and many other tests performed. This is what worked for me and what ultimately allowed me to cure myself of IBS and Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO).
The cause of IBS is often misdiagnosed because when the colon and intestines are examined in tests such as a colonoscopy, no signs of intestinal damage are visible. As you know, patients are often told that their condition is “all in their head” and are prescribed pain medication, antispasmodics, or antidepressants with the expectation that these drugs will somehow help their bowel.
The following study by Dr. Mark Pimentel was published in his book A New IBS Solution, Bacteria-The Missing Link in Treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Dr. Pimental noticed that many of his IBS patients had bacterial overgrowth as well. Many of his patients reported significant improvement during antibiotic treatments. He began to suspect that not only was bacterial overgrowth a potential cause of IBS, but that a proper course of antibiotic treatment might be effective in treating it. He began to notice how many IBS patients tested positive for elevated levels of bacteria during hydrogen breath tests (HBT) at his center, and also how many of those patients reported that their IBS symptoms improved when they used antibiotics.
Based on that information, Dr. Pimental decided to study the IBS patients who came in for breath tests to determine how many tested positive for bacterial overgrowth. In the first study, he screened over 200 patients and a whopping 76% tested positive for bacterial overgrowth. These patients were then treated with antibiotics, and afterwards returned for follow up breath tests. Much of the patients bacterial overgrowth either significantly reduced or returned to normal levels, and in each case there was also a remarkable improvement in their IBS symptoms.
If you have been dealing with abdominal pain for years with no explanation, have your Doctor prescribe a hydrogen breath test. Dr. Pimental has proved that there is a clear link between bacterial overgrowth and IBS. I found this to be the case with my symptoms as well. Many IBS sufferers experience immediate relief when taking antifungal supplements (which also fights candida overgrowth which comes hand in hand with bacterial overgrowth. I am not a big fan of antibiotics and depending on how bad your overgrowth may be, you may be able to take a natural approach avoiding antibiotics.
Below I detail the steps I took to get my IBS/SIBO healed for good. It won’t happen overnight as it is a very slow process and depending on your condition may take years, but there is hope and remember its not all in your head!!
DIET
LOW FOODMAP DIET/LOW RESIDUE DIET
Many patients dealing with abdominal bloating, excessive gas, chronic diarrhea or constipation, diagnosed with IBS or any bowel disease cannot tolerate certain short-chained carbohydrates called FODMAPs. This diet limits many FODMAPs and is recommended to be followed for 2-3 months or until digestion improves. If FODMAPs are the cause of your symptoms, you should feel considerably better within the first few days of the diet. Additional weeks on the diet allow your intestine to heal and rest, and will likely reduce bacteria levels in your small intestines. After 2-3 months, some foods can be reintroduced back into your diet, one type of food every few days. Your diet should consist of 65% organic vegetables, 20% organic proteins, 10% complex carbohydrates, and 5% organic fruit.
ORGANIC VEGETABLES (65%):
Green Beans, Bok Choy, Broccoli (may be troublesome), Carrots, Celery , Chives, Corn (may be troublesome), Cucumber, Eggplant (may be troublesome), Ginger, Lettuce (may be troublesome), Olives, Parsley, Potatoes (white and pealed), Pumpkin, Spinach, Squash (may be troublesome), Tomato (avoid cherry tomatoes), Turnips, Zucchini (this may be troublesome).
ORGANIC PROTEIN (20%):
Beef, Chicken, Eggs, Fish (especially oily fish such as sardines and salmon).
COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATES (10 %):
Rice (white is better than brown rice, no wild rice), Potatoes (white and pealed), Tapioca, Quinoa, Gluten free bread, 100% Spelt Bread, Buckwheat, Gluten free pasta, rice noodles, corn flakes, Gluten free cereals and crackers.
ORGANIC FRUIT (5% Gradually add to diet): Apples/Apple sauce, Banana, Blueberries, Cranberry, Grapes, Grapefruit, Kiwi, Lemon, Lime, Oranges, Pineapple, Raspberry, Strawberry. (Limit intake of fruits to one serving per sitting, and try to eat fruit by itself in between meals)
THINGS TO AVIOD
• Limit alcohol intake (clear spirits such as Vodka & Gin with water/soda, flavored with fresh fruit in moderation is acceptable if tolerated).
• Avoid onion (one of the greatest contributors to IBS), leeks, shallots, and garlic.
• Avoid all sugars and sweeteners as much as possible (Corn syrup, fructose, Mannitol, Sorbitol, Sucralose (Splenda), Lactose, Lactulose. Stevia is acceptable and a great healthy alternative.
• Avoid large salads full of raw vegetables, as this can lead to too much residue. Do not eat raw vegetables exclusively as they are hard to digest.
• Avoid wheat and products containing wheat as much as possible. Those diagnosed with Celiac disease should eliminate gluten from their diet completely.
THINGS TO DO
• Take anti-fungal supplements 30 minutes before every meal (to kill the bad bacteria and yeast so you feed yourself when you eat and not the bacteria). Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE), Olive Leaf Extract, Coconut Oil, Peppermint Oil Capsules, Oil of Oregano, Garlic (if tolerated), ect.
• Drink plenty of water (At least 8 glasses a day).
• Chew your food well and don’t over eat. Eat in a relaxing environment and don’t rush yourself.
• Limit yourself to 3 meals a day to allow your migrating motor complex (the cleansing action of your intestines) to sweep out bacteria and waste. The MMC works in the third phase of your small intestine and occurs in between meals when you are not eating.
• Take a fiber supplement such as Citrucel (to keep your system moving) and also Bentonite clay mixed with water (this will absorb excess toxins and bacteria and detox your system) Fiber and bentonite should be taken once in the morning and once before bed.
• Cook or steam your vegetables. This is preferable to raw vegetables, because they are easier to digest. Have 3-5 servings of cooked vegetables every day.
• Many IBS sufferers have chronic low stomach acid. Betaine HCL with pepsin taken 45 minutes after meals can dramatically improve digestion in many.
BENEFICAL SUPPLEMENTS:
• L-glutamine (essential to heal leaky gut, 2-3 times a day on empty stomach)
• Fish Oil (2-3 daily with meals)
• Chlorella (2-3 daily before meals)
• Zinc (1 daily with meals)
• Magnesium (1-2 daily with meals)
• Calcium (1 daily with meals)
• Vitamin B Complex (1-2 daily with meals)
• Vitamin C (up to 4000 mg 2-3 times a day)
• Whey protein (Take only if tolerated. Contains Glutathione which is a natural body detoxifier. Whey protein has amino acids (building blocks of the body) which can heal the intestinal tract and improve your immune system. All immune cells in your body are made from poly-peptides of amino acids. The protein must be protein isolate 99% un-denatured whey)
POSITIVE THINKING
Many cases of IBS have an underlying emotional stress or anxiety associated; having a positive outlook and reducing stress can really help.
Keep your thoughts and your emotions as uplifted and positive as you possibly can, all of the time.
Do your very best to stay grateful about things. This will help keep you in a positive, uplifted state.
Practice forgiveness. This places you in a position of power and compassion. It is much better than allowing yourself to feel like a victim, which always leads to a fight-or-flight response.
You can beat IBS. It is a long and difficult journey, but with the proper diet, supplements, and supportive friends and family it can be done. If you take your health in your own hands and not rely on the medical community, you will soon be feeling better than you have in years.
I was at the dr office reading why people are scared to take antibiotics one reason was the "risks are greater than the diesease." NO KIDDING! Here are my thoughts from research that I've done... you want to flush it out the key is that the ginger and cranberry juice (organic no sugar) you want the bacteria to NOT stick to the walls so drink fresh grated ginger tea all day every day or drink cranberry. I buy the small bottle concentrate with no sugar natural both of these washes bacteria out and doesn't let it stick start out by drinking either ginger water or cranberry drinking 3-4 glasses every hour for the first three hours then one glass every hour.. the reason your trying wash this stuff out of your system by diluting it and flushing it out !
