This is a wonderful program for teaching children to grow, harvest, prepare, and cook the produce they grow themselves.
This is a popular program for many schools in Australia.
What a great program for kids Spud. These kids will eventually become adults, who will have the knowledge and the skills to continue to grow, harvest and cook food that is chemical free, not to mention, 100% fresh and very tasty.
My kids were out in the garden with me the other week planting all sorts of vegetables. They know where their food originates from, not the supermarket but fresh straight out of the ground.
We had broad beans, potatoes, lettuce, spinach and a huge yellow tomatoe bush one year and we just relished in those. We cant wait to see the growth of our new crop take hold. Delicious!!
Growing your own vege and fruit, is such an important skill to have, particularly now, when so much of our food is contaminated with toxic chemicals. It is great to see kids enjoying gardening, and not seeing it as a chore, but something that is fun, and rewarding.
I think the work that Stephanie Alexander is doing, is of great benefit to children, and adults. At least some of this generation of kids, will know what real food tastes like, and hopefully they will take the skills they learn at school, into their adult life.
Your kids are so lucky, they get to learn at home :)
