I'm new to all this Iodine supplementation and I've heard that 50-100mgs/day is around the level some take to have benefit.
I'm confused though, my iodine (NOT Potassium Iodide) says one drop is 6.25mgs CONTAINING 250mcg of Iodine per drop.
So I assume I am aiming for 50-100mgs from the DROPS?
Otherwise I'd be taking hundreds of drops to the the amount...
OR my supplement is stupidly weak??
Can someone clarify?
THIS (http://www.nationalnutrition.ca/detail.aspx?ID=1707) is the BRAND I'm using. Is it a good one?
Your label actually says that one milliliter contains 6.25 mg iodine, and one drop 250 mcg. It is neither in the form of Lugol's or pure SSKI, so yes, yours is unfortunately very weak.
That's how these companies make money, by putting a paltry amount of Iodine in their products, based on the iodine RDA set by the National Academy of Sciences, and then charging big bucks for them. It's been really bad lately as they try to take advantage of the nuclear paranoia.
Also, therapeutic ranges of Iodine is actually lower than what you state. In the Brownstein book, he cites an effective dose to be between 12 and 50 mg per day. Dr. Guy Abraham goes with 6 to 50 mg. But the consensus in this forum seems to be working yourself to 100+ mg as barreling through can resolve detox symptoms sooner. I think it worked for me, but I also think it depends on the person.
