Is it okay to drink baking soda and water. When I do I get a pretty bad headache. I don't normally get headaches. Does this eventually go away. I am trying to get my body more alkaline.
I have been drinking baking soda with lemon or lime for months now and have not had a problem--however, when I told my naturopathic doctor about it, he immediately checked my blood pressure and said that drinking baking soda can increase blood pressure. So that might be what is giving you headaches.
I would try adding the juice of one lemon or lime to 1/4 tsp baking soda and a half glass of water and see if that agrees with you better.
Drinking baking soda all the time especially with meals can decrease acid levels in the stomach which can cause indigestion. Yes baking soda can cause a rise in blood pressure too been there done that. Ive noticed it also can be irritating to the kidneys if done all the time.
The best way to alkalize is deep green veggies or sea veggies or sea salt. Balance!--people get in to trouble when they become too alkaline or too acidic. Candida can adjust to an alkaline or acidic environment. Candida Yeast form likes an acidic environment..but can switch to the fungal form to thrive in a alkaline environment. The best environment for friendly bacteria is slightly acidic, thats why its called "ACIDdophilus. When i became too alkaline I became constipated. Too acidic can cause joint + muscle pain and mineral loss.

I’ve been doing this for four days now, and this morning was the first morning I’ve awoken without a single symptom of Candida. I can’t tell you how great that feels. I’m not by any means saying that this Candida fight is over, but this is definitely a beginning. There is another angle to this. Which brand of baking soda are you using? Unless it specifically states aluminum free on the box, it contains aluminum picked up from the processing.
I am using Arm and Hammer. SHould I use Bob's Red Mill? I get a bad headache for a couple of hours after drinking baking soda in water and start feeling depressed and angry.

Arm and Hammer is one of those with aluminum.
Baking soda does not contain aluminum. Some baking powders do.
Secondly that is a lot of sodium, which can lead to an electrolyte imbalance. It is the excess sodium that is likely causing the headache.
And drinking baking soda can lead to a state of alkalosis, which is also very dangerous.
This is why I have such a problem with the Acid/Alkaline forums. These forums are not about balance but rather about creating an alkaline state, which is not as healthy as they claim and as you have seen can be quite dangerous.
Lay off the baking soda and allow your system to recover.
Thank you all for your responses. I am laying off the baking soda and water mix. I have been reading about the Moreless Protocol and now I am going to read about Ted's alkalizing formula and see which one will be better ti try. Thank you for your info and I am starting to feel better now.
the rise in blood pressure could be due to the fact that baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. sodium is known to raise blood pressure.
i haven't read too much about the moreless program, but a lot of people do well on these types of programs made popular by dr. robert young. it is an interesting theory that the stomach is actually designed to be alkaline. not sure if i agree with it, but the proof is in the testimonials.
also, a lot of people do not do well with these types of alkalizing programs.
if it were me i would jsut try to listen to your body. obviously there is something telling you that you should try to alkalize. is this coming from you or an external source?
have you read any of dr. arnold ehret's books? i think if i wanted to go on an alkalinity program i would pursue that road vs a manmade substance like bicarbonate. incidentally, the pancreas is supposed to manufacture and secrete bicarbonate after meals.
common medical wisdom is that the stomach should be acidic. muscle tissue is acidic. certain tissues should be acid and certain ones should be alkaline.
the small intestine favors an alkaline ph whereas the large intestine favors an acidic environment. (according to common medical theory).
the most alkalizing mineral salt is... sodium. bile is the most alkaline secretion made by the body and its main salt is sodium. pancreatic secretions are also highly alkaline.
one of the theories put forth by the alkalinists is that in an acidic body, where presumably there is not proper liver or bile function, the body will then rob calcium from the bones in order to compensate for the failure of liver and pancreatic system to alkalize. i think this theory has some merit.
however, there is a certain amount (perhaps huge) of natural bodily intelligence where a person does not have to consciouly worry about maintaining the correct ph balance. a healthy body will do this naturally. you don't have to worry about breathing when you go to sleep. but in a chronically ill body, you may have to intellectualize this process and do some sort of alkalizing program.
i try to keep an open mind to all types of therapies. there was apparently a huge feud between moreless and one of the posters in this thread that resulted in moreless being banned from cz. i would take everything from everyone with a grain of salt and make your own decisions based on personal experience.
I have been using pure baking soda (Dr. Clark Store)about 1/8 teaspoon and 1/8 tsp in tea or water before going to bed. It's fizzy and helps when I've eaten too much acid forming foods. Hulda Clark advised using a teaspoon of baking soda in water before bedtime for a quick fix for acidity.
To ballnce by body I looked at a lot of websites about acid and alkaline forming foods and follow a diet of about 2/3 alkaline forming food and 1/3 acid forming foods. Also called acid and alkaline ash foods. I eat lots of kale and some chard - leafy greens. You may want to get some pH strips to test your saliva first thing in the am.
I started out using the baking soda and lemon or lime juice, with good results. However, soon I started noticing that my heart would beat faster each time I took the baking soda, which I assume was the sodium since I had experienced that reaction from sodium in the past. So I purchased a small bottle of liquid alkaline blend from a local vitamin store, this doesn't affect me in a negative way.
When I stopped using the baking soda, I immediately started using the alkaline blend, so there was no break between the two. On Friday (this being Sunday), I had a terrible die-off day lasting all day long. Saturday I felt like a million dollars, had all the energy I wanted and stayed busy all day long, however, I did experience pretty bad diarrhea off and on during the day, which I’ve noticed in the past happens with die-off. Today, about an hour after I awoke, I started having the usual die-off headache, felt absolutely horrible and was only able to force myself to eat a little (no appetite at all), and even went back to bed for about half an hour (I ‘never’ do that). But I refused to stay there, because we had such a busy day ahead of us. Three families took our mother out for lunch for Mother’s Day, and by the time we arrived at the restaurant, I was feeling about 70% better. During lunch, my appetite returned, and I’ve been able to eat fine the entire day, so the die-off apparently only lasted half a day this time.
I’ve used the alkaline test strips, and if I eat meat, I’ve noticed my pH is lower, but when I use the alkaline blend, the pH balance is closer to what the test says is normal. My question is this; someone stated that your balance should be both acidic and alkaline, so I’d like to know where the number should be for that to take place.

I read that the ph level should be between 6.8 to 7.5 . Please correct me if I'm wrong. I am about to try the Moreless Alkalizing Mineral Drink in 2 days so I will let people know my results. I am so tired of die off so hopefully this will help. Anyone had any experience with this drink?
