this has to do with Epsom Salts so i decided to post in this section becasue it is a product that we all use on this page- i was sooo constipated after eating eggs and some pigs feet soup for dinner the night before yesterday, i became really really constipated yesterday and so i decided to take some metamucil with some soup.
i thought i could wait it out and then be rid of it with the fiber..it made it even worse and unbarable..i have no more Oxypowder so i decided to take a dose of Epsom salts three hours or so after the doseage of metamucil..after that i became soo bloated and stuffed up even more!It felt like the fiber from metamucil was like a acting like a sponge soaking up all the water ES was drawing in and i became sooo bloated! god it hurt soo badly, i had to take an advil just to feel better,it kept me up til 8:30 am! i finally got to sleep and i felt alot better in the afternoon, though all day i later in the evening i had the runs for a bit and some cramps after dinner..i really need some more Oxypowder, i learned my lesson..one or the other, not both..EVER.

i have no problems with heavy meats like beef or pork anymore and chicken is a breeze for me to digest, since i usually have sautaed onions or veggies with those meals. But eggs back me up SOO MUCH! hard boiled or soft boiled, eggs just seem to not want to digest no matter what i eat with it.
I am not surprised that something like this happened to you.
Still being so toxic as you are eggs are simply hell for you. I can explain you why:
They content sulphur compunds that are very detoxyfying.
However, the outlet getting all this filthy stuff out of your body is too small, at least for the time being.
Instead of Epsom Salt or Metamucil I would recommend drinking 1.5 liter of water within 2 minutes. That gets the guts going and furthermore flushes out water soluable poisons.
good luck
I'm sorry you had such a miserable night, I've had them too. You have learned, and most importantly have shared how important it is not to take fiber when extremely constipated with a poor transit time, whether that is chronic or acute. Some people take Epsom Salts everyday for weeks on end, while others cannot tolerate even a single dose. I keep ES on hand always for emergency use, but I hate them so much it has to be an emergency for me to use them.
I rarely eat eggs, but once in a while I will make a pig of myself with deviled eggs or potato salad. I wind up with the same problems. I always blamed the high fat content, but maybe I need to reconsider the egg. I am blood type O and have no problems with meat, but I eat very little now. I am trying to do the 80-10-10 diet plan my doctor recommends; 80% veggies and fruits, 10% animal products and 10% grains and starches.
Metamucil is actually a lifesaver for me - no problems with constipation ever, plus I don't eat a lot of meat, but with Metamucil the key is to drink lots and lots of water.
Fiber products like Metamucil or just plain psyllium are fantastic if you have strong peristalsis. If not, the product tends to stay in the colon too long and can cause problems. I used to use psyllium all the time, but some nerve damage has affected my colon and now it causes pain, cramping and bloating. But, if it works for you, go for it. There are so many variables with the bowels there there is no one size fits all solution. Keep preaching the water, that makes a world of difference!.
I am plagued by chronic constipation. I used to get severe diarrhea and cramps all the time, then went gluten-free 2 years ago, and my system seemed to just hibernate!
My transit time is way too long. What can I do to get it back to normal??
I use Oxypowder and a gentle fibre supplement which keep me regular and comfortable, with the optimum 2,3 or 4 bowel movements per day. I began using oxypowder several months ago, and as my colon is gradually becoming cleaner,my digestion improving, and my liver less sluggish I have been able to gradually reduce the dosage. I am also regaining good peristalsis.
Please check Hanna's post above /forums/m.asp?f=447&i=35910 for the reference to Andreas Morritz. His advice is the best I have found. Also the oxypowder site http://www.oxypowder.com
I can totally relate to your problem. You might want to try a gentle herbal stimulant like Cascara Sagrada or Triphala to see if that will work. If you don't see improvements in a week or so, discontinue use. Many people have had success with mixed herbal products like Schulze's Intestinal Formula#1, or Christopher's Lower Bowel Balance. I had no luck with these products however, they just caused intense pain. Exercise, plenty of water, and a lubricant like flax seeds can be used everyday and will hopefully give you relief. Even improving your digestion through liver flushing may prove beneficial.
I have tried some stimulant laxatives, and they do work somewha,t but only for the time I use them, then the problem seems to worsen once I quit using them. Fiber tends to make me feel MORE constipated, if that makes any sense.
As of about 3 months ago, I exercise every day, drink TONS of water, take acidophilus and eat a great diet now, and my digestive system is STILL sluggish. ALso, magnesium tends to make me feel very spacey and dizzy, so I am not comfortable taking oxy etc....
I think I got used to having the stress/gluten combo of bowel stimulation that gave me cramps and diarrhea, and now that I don't eat wheat and don't work 12 hour ICU shifts (STRESS), now my gut is sleeping! Meanwhile, it is still not healthy, and my liver and gallbladder are paying the price.
It gets extremely frustrating. Maybe this will just have to be a slow gradual recovery process.
I will look into the lower bowel balance... I hadn't heard of that before.
Thanks!
The roots of constipation start higher up the pipe. Have you tried strengthening your digestion in the stomach by taking digestive enzymes with your meals? If your stomach is not secreting enough HCL to digest your food, you will have problems further down the pipe. HCL secretion is a parasympathetic response, which means you need to be reasonable relaxed at mealtimes for your stomach to work properly. If your liver and gallbladder are highly congested, in addition to not having enough HCL you may not be releasing enough bile and what little bile you are producing may be getting bound up in the fiber supplement.
If you prefer digestive enzymes to ayurvedic herbs, I'd recommend taking a product that has betaine HCL along with taurine and pancreatic enzymes to help boost the digestion. Betaine is made from beets and helps to thin the bile to get it moving.
It is difficult if you cannot tolerate some of the supplements.
Do you drink water first thing in the morning?
2 glasses of warm to hot water should be helpful in pushing things through. You can add some fresh lemon juice and/or honey for extra push.
Other points worth mentioning are:
not bypassing the urge, as this will excacerbate the problem and reduce peristalsis. Taking plenty of time when trying to go, and rocking gently back and forth. This can make a big difference in getting things moving, even if at first you feel completely stuck.
Ortis make a fruit & fibre cube. It contains figs, rhubarb, lactose, guar gum, pulp of tamarinds, dates, yoghurt powder & vegetable glycerin.
If you try it be careful not to pick up the ones containing senna as they come in similar packs.
I know some people who have eaten tamarind paste on its own with success.
It is most likely that a combination of things will make a difference for you.
i will only use ES on my flushing days and on extreme emergencies! i learned my lesson though..if i am really really constipated, Oxypowder and lemon wedge clears me up in about an hour..something about the lemon wedge makes me really crap. And NEVER NEVER EVER EVER in your life take a bulking fiber and then take something like ES,because from what i understand the ES pulls water into the intesitines and flushes them out or something- i guess with the fibers in place it acted like a sponge and just ballooned in my colon and absorbed all the water!imagine a sponge inside you colon and then pouring water into it til it expands soo much ..it becomes lodged in there!!!!! ouch, not good at all! it felts as if i had 50 lbs in my gut the entire night
):
i took it because i 'thought' i could wait it out and i remember metamucil always absorbs everything in it's path and pushes it all out the next day..unfortunantly i could'nt wait until the next day and 2-3 hours later i took the ES..the rest is history..more like a horror story
):
oh well, it took effect yesterday and tonight and it completly flushed everything out! PS, no more hard boiled eggs!!! i had like 5 of them after a workout!
