WARNING: This is early posting which includes some chronological health issues that I seem to be unable to convey. I am sure some of you are tired of reading about this scalp problem, but I am not tired of seeking solutions. I am asking for your help one last time, posting threads which spell out where I have come from, progressing to current. I am tired, but not defeated. HELP if you can...
Have you checked out the morgellons forum? Just a thought.
Also fatigue & itchy skin can be correlated to hypothyroid problems. Many people are hypothyroid and/or hypoadrenal & have no clue. Perhaps see the stopthethyroidmadness.com site re both issues, ditto Dr. Michael Lam's site & he has an Ask Dr. Lam forum here.
Blood tests are not always accurate for either condition, but those sites give you more info.
There have been several published reports lately that prove there are about 30% of people with Celiac Disease are hard core smokers - they just cannot stop smoking. Many of your health problems suggest you have a problem with gluten sensitivity and the 2 month gluten free diet was not long enough for you to recover. It takes up to 5 months for the autoanitbody levels to drop as the antibody producing cells die off and the person must be on a strict gluten free diet and remove all sources of gluten in the home environment and use no body products containing gluten (wheat, barley, rye). Since you have numerous health problems and are very anxious it would be a good idea to order the DNA marker test, available online. You do not need to be on a gluten challange diet to have the DNA marker tests done.
Whether or not your problems are related to gluten:
Use only a saturated Borax solution for body and hair washing. Use this also for cleaning, dishes, laundry - use no detergents or commercial soaps, fabric softener.
For about 20 years my scalp itched constantly. Lice treatments did not help, nor did parasite cleanses. Using borax didn't stop the problem. Now that i'm 5 years gluten free my head dows not itch unless I have been accidently glutened and then the itching lasts for months.
It would make sense then that a period of time when my diet was strictest the itching began to subside - no bread or baked goods, basically low to no carbs. I also lost weight I could not afford to lose, but I will do anything right now to make this stop. I am anxious for it to go away, not filled with anxiety as I was and as is reflected in the earlier posts. I am actually quite calm to a point where folks wonder if I have a pulse - just choosing not get riled over much anymore. I gave as much hysteria to this life as I am willing to - it did not ever help make me well. I am keeping my eye on the progress I have made, also included in posts. I am no longer suffering anything but a relentlessly itchy scalp, and if gluten is the culprit I will heed your words, will learn from your experience, especially if the accidental gluten starts the whole cycle again...geesh! I am sure it will not be fun scouting out every source of gluten in food, but I have been through worse - like where all this started was HELL.
I am already well into Borax for my scalp and body - I don't wash either with any detergent - wish I did not have to bath in tap water!!!! I have only been adding borax to laundry soap instead of using only borax to wash clothes.
I will look into DNA marker, unfortunately not all suggestions along the way have been affordable. I WISH I could try many things - wish for the whole house water filtration system, a rife machine, on and on, etc.....
So, if you are sensitive to gluten & wheat (not actually Celiac) then things like soap & shampoo & laundry detergent - can they bother you also? I do not have any itching scalp but am just not wanting to do anything that could aggravate any sensitivities. I use only things that have no laurel sulfates & no additives. I'd never heard that cleansing products could be a problem. Interesting.
The three gluten sensitivities (see the Wikipedia article)
If a person is allergic to wheat they may also be allergic to closely related grains and other foods that contain shared antigens. The reaction usually occurs within an hour and whereever the allergin is on or in the body.
Autoimmune Celliac Disease/Celiac Sprue is a delayed reaction and in me it takes about 6 hours or more for the gluten to be digested and the protein gliadin to be broken down to small chains of amino acids. These gliadin gragments then bind to an antigen receptor site in lymphoid tissues and start off the production of autoantibodies. Some people react sooner but it is not clear if they also have an allergy to wheat. Besides reacting to ingested gluten I have also reacted to inhaled gluten.
Non-celiac sprue. In these people the gliadin (I think) destablizes the base of the villi in the small intestine. This is one of the causes of Leaky Gut Syndrome and multiple food sensitivities or allergies. People with Celiac Sprue can develop non-celiac sprue. I have not read any clear explaination of why people develop multiple chemical sensitivities. My opinion is that some of us lack the ability to detox chemicals because our detox systems have been damaged by overexposure or something that interfered with the detox systems in the liver.
I have been reading up on salicylate allergy/intolerance and noticed that the reactions are similar to Celiac Disease and also realized my basic diet consists of foods that have very little salicylates.
hi, I took time reading your posts and can't help it but think it is a very bad Ascaris infestation (they're known to get out of the intestines under certain conditions, i.e. when they feel threatened or for example if you have a high fever, they migrate and stagger all over your body, including scalp as you described)
not sure which one are they (ascaris megalocefala, lumbricoides or suum) but I bet you it's ascaris, they can make life a huge hell, make you very ill and sick to your stomach too and are very hard to get rid of especially when they scatter all over
